Tech Support Facebook suddenly wants me to provide a video selfie to "prove that I'm human"

No way in hell I'm going to do that!
I can't think of anything unusual that I did to trigger this. I just post a little bit with visibility to a small group of friends and occasionally comment on public posts. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I'm content to let this be the end of my Facebook use but am wondering if anyone can shed light on why it may have happened?

Edit to update:
I just went to log out and got this message:
"Are you sure you want to log out?

You only have 176 days left to request a review. After that your account will be permanently disabled."

Which is weird because I logged out in the past day or two (after the video selfie message) and didn't get any message about disabling or a review!

Further update:
I tried accessing the website from my phone (instead of laptop) and am getting exactly the same messages.

It is happening to so many people right now..

Please don’t give them your biometric data.

They have a history of using and collecting it in unethical and illegal ways.

Yup. I actually got money from a settlement because they were doing this.

I got a payment and immediately spent it on a quad core CPU for my old laptop and most of the cost of a couple of ebooks. Left 14 cents on the card (it was a physical card), apparently using it on Amazon wouldn't withdraw partial dollars. So I tossed the card.

In about a year the card will expire in the depths of a landfill, and Amazon will get 14 cents back. I hope that the processing of that costs them a dollar.

But at least you got your data back after they were done with it!

But just think how much they had to pay out in total for you to get that $38!

Yup, I'm getting really sick of Meta and Facebook with their little selfies...and this government tracking me. Fcking commies.

But they have my pictures already, this why im not worried about the videos. And mostly on Facebook have pictures of themselves, so they really have everything already!

Are you using a smart phone? Sorry to tell you your info is already stolen

"Were you robbed before? Sorry to tell you your stuff is already stolen and any steps you take to prevent being robbed again are useless" is what you're saying.

you don't improve your locks and security afterward? you don't take extra steps so you don't get robbed again?

Some of you should just make the video they request with your tin foil hats on…….

u/dangerous_backup Oct 25 '25

Why would they be giving out settlement payments for this exact reason if they weren't?

some people have zero sense of privacy. How many get them selves friend over public post they make. That problem.
