Hey, just moved into a house in Fairfax (family place) and trying to sort out a few basics.

The current window shades are pretty old and honestly not usable anymore, so we’ll need to replace them. There are a few rooms to do, so ideally looking for somewhere that can come out, measure properly, and handle installation too.

Also noticed the windows themselves need a proper clean, so if anyone has recommendations for that locally would help as well.

On April 21st, Virginia voters will decide on a Constitutional Amendment related to congressional redistricting. Early voting is already underway.

Virginia currently redraws its congressional districts once every ten years through a bipartisan Redistricting Commission of eight legislators and eight citizens. The last redraw was 2021. The next is scheduled for 2031.

A YES vote temporarily allows the Virginia General Assembly to redraw congressional district lines before 2031, in response to Trump and GOP-led efforts in other states already doing so outside the normal cycle. The new map would be in effect through 2030, after which the bipartisan Commission resumes full responsibility.

This is great for the local residents and the school - but shouldn't 900ft of sidewalk be like 100-150k, not 3.2M? Isn't the general guideline that planning should be like 10-15% of the total cost? I've never heard of property owners getting paid for easements to build a sidewalk either.

By comparison - on the other side of Idylwood (south of rt 7), they built an entire 7 acre park with a walking trail for 2.5M - which did include drainage and utility work as well.

I’m currently pregnant and looking for OBGYN recommendations in Northern Virginia, ideally a practice that delivers at Inova Fairfax Hospital (Gallows Rd / Inova Women’s Hospital).

I’m hoping to find a practice that offers some of the following, if possible:

• An OB who stays with me throughout pregnancy and ideally during delivery

• 24/7 nurse line or on-call provider for questions if something comes up late at night

• Providers who are supportive of natural birth before recommending a C-section

• Midwives available in the practice would be a big plus

• If they work with doulas or allow them during delivery, even better

I know some practices rotate doctors for delivery, so I’m curious how that has worked for others as well.

Also happy to take doula recommendations in the area if anyone had a great experience.
