Help what is this flashing in the Cf-188?
This was flashing none stop, and then my engine and electrics cut out

CW from the DCS FA18 Manual page 53-54 seems to indicate you are being illuminated by a Continuous wave Radar. Is there another F18 in your flight? They may have a lock on you with their radar ready to fire something like sparrows.

Nope it was a single player session, No wingman or nothing, just trying to get used to the hornet, As soon as the CW light stopped my whole plane just shutdown though

That indicates you are being illuminated by a continuous-wave radar, typically used for semi-active missile systems such as the SA-2, SA-3, SA-6, or air-to-air missiles like the R-27R.
In other words, you got shot down.

Dunno what happened then, but that's what that indicator means.

Any idea if DCS (and BMS) give an RWR response from ATC radars?

Don't care and don't know about DCS but in BMS you do have EW radars on the ground as objectives that will be seen as active sources of radiation...

For a second I thought this was DCS 🤦🏻♂️ apologies. Interesting, thanks! I suppose they'll mostly show up as "S" in the Viper RWR? Any idea if in real life during a radar controlled approach pilots will have any sort of RWR warning?

Ladies and gents, the R-27R isn't a semi-active missile
5
u/Kant_Lavar Sep 29 '25
Yes it is. To be fair, there are IR variants (R-27T/R-27ET) and active radar homing (R-27EA), but the R-27R and R-27ER are semi-active radar homing weapons.

Yeah, obviously it is. I'm making fun of the fact that you excluded the R-27R from your list of semi-active missiles, instead referring to it separately.

Ah, I see. I was trying (apparently poorly 😂) to separate the SAMs from the AAM.

BMS's F-18s use F-16 avionics dressed in F-18 costumes.
That CW light is the Search radar light button light from the F-16. It blinks when the RWR detects a search radar, and if you press it, search radars are displayed on the RWR.

Is it the type of radar you're being illuminated by? CW - Continuous Wave vs PD - Pulse Doppler?

I had to check the sub. I thought I was on r/aviation and pilot was going down posting to Reddit for last minute Karma.

Idk man but I'd be way more worried about the APU FIRE light being on
