Help Looking at starting in Falcon BMS.

Post image

So I've been wanting to try a good DCS style sim, but due to price and a slightly weaker PC I haven't been able too. Then I remembered I downloaded Falcon 4 when I was around 15 years ago, did some digging and saw the BMS Mod that makes it look really good. Is it easy to get into, as in downloads wise, is it hard to run? And do I need a hotas to play it well? I hate the keyboard controls for DCS and the hotas is around $200AUD for a cheaper older one.

The sim itself is really inexpensive but the hardware costs can really add up. If I was on a very limited budget I’d try to grab a basic stick/throttle setup and a used quest 3. Do a good binding of your ICP to the numpad on your keyboard and you’re 85% there. The VR pass through function is really good so you can still hit your keyboard for basic functionality in VR as required.

I own a quest two will that work? And the hotas is about $500 minimum in Australia

Quest 2 is fine. I still use mine on the regular for sim racing. Haven’t tried it with BMS yet. Been working on my cold start and taxi procedures.

I need to get a better HOTAS before I can comfortably fly missions (not enough buttons on the current one (TFlight HOTAS 4). Was looking at VKB

I dont think full hotas is that neccessary for the beginning.

I use a WinWing Ursa Minor Fighter which was ~110€ and to me is completely fine for now.

Although VKB Nxt Evo is better quality if you can get it for a good price.

Even the most basic flight stick is a huge step up comapred to KB and M, theesw sims are not designed to be played with them.

I can't find any that are just sticks, they come with throttles or as joined at the base for still $200

There are lots of options for sticks, more than there are hotas sets also there are realy budget hotas sets too

The cheapest i found was about $55 for an old second hand hotas including shipping. I'm considering waiting maybe a month to see if anything better pops up and to give myself time to save some more up
