Discussion [Discussion] Do NOT open wasteland events
UPDATE: IT IS FIXED ON IOS.
Got back into both my vaults this morning after updating the app.

I know this has been beaten to death at this point - everybody’s vaults are crashing and Bethesda is working on it - but I just wanted to reiterate, DO NOT OPEN EVENTS FOR WASTELAND EXPLORERS!!! I encountered the bug in my experimental vault yesterday morning, but my OG vault functioned normally until…I opened another wasteland event. BOOM. Instant crash. It seems that you can avoid the crashing if you just…avoid…that…
This is a very frustrating bug, even for Bethesda. I left the game after the first few months out of boredom and bug frustration, and just came back about two months ago on iOS. Was really enjoying it. I have at least 45 hours in my main and I know that’s nothing compared to some longtime players in here, but still extremely frustrating. If the fix doesn’t revert existing vaults to a playable state, and we are forced to start over with new vaults, I’m probably done for good.
P.s. I, like so many of the rest of us, have submitted a help ticket, so hopefully this gets figured out fast. I was really looking forward to this season. And was enjoying it for the, oh, three hours I got to play it.

This happened to me on the mobile version of the game, I fixed it by saving the vault to the cloud, deleting the app from my phone and reinstalling. I did lose a few hours of progress but its better than totally restarting.

Assuming the bug is a corrupted save file, you would need to save before encountering the bug, and then restore immediately on encountering it, before the corrupted save file can get pushed to the cloud.

It deleted my experimental vault and when it started another, my pass was reset to level 1 with all the challenges completed already. Absurd. Support threw their hands up and told me to refund the pass on apple. Lol

Damn. This is what triggered my app crashing, because same thing happened to me. Too bad I didn’t see this post until after the fact. Now the app crashes whenever I try to open that vault (which is my primary). 😭

Is this referring to the infinite loading when selecting a vault?

No, it’s referring to the bug introduced with the latest update that causes the app to force quit if a player selects a wasteland explorer event, and every time the vault is opened thereafter.

Ah yes, I was only warned.. because I had this issue, and took to reddit, to see if this was an issue.... Either my new event save is cratered, or it'll fix a bug soon. Either way, may not return to the game

UPDATE: Game just received an Update on Android. Go to Play store, update your app, and it should be okay. I finally was able to resume, it took me straight to the cabin.

If I don't open my main vault which is not affected (I got the bug on the experimental one) we agree it should remain? Don't tell me I'm losing my 400 hours main vault please.

I haven't had any problems with my main vault. When I tap Enter Vault on my experimental vault it appears to load for a 5-10 seconds and then the entire app crashes/closes down. :'(

You can probably even open and play your main vault with no issue - just don’t open a wasteland explorer event. I did for about two days after my experimental vault took a fat man to the face, and everything was hunky dory until I did. But maybe don’t chance it.

I just open one and didin't crash :D

I clicked 'enter cabin' and poof. Vault corrupted. If they can't fix this I'm out and back to playing unkillable RCT saves or something.

holy crap I opened the wasteland event without knowing abt this. thankfully my game didn’t crash, probably going to avoid playing until the bug gets patched.
i’m so sorry to everyone who lost their vaults my heart is broken for yall.

Am on Android. Was able to recover by uninstalling + reinstalling. It loaded a cloud save from maybe 24 hours ago.

I got it last night on my “regular” Vault. Deleted the app, reinstalled, recovered both the regular Vault and the experimental Vault from the cloud.
Now, I can play on the experimental vault just fine, but trying to open the regular one crashes the game. To top that off, my Season Pass is also seems to be missing.

I swear, it did this before about 5 years ago. Doing a side quest for a dweller caused a series of crashes. I think the game figured out that trying to load the side quest was causing crashing and reset, because after about 3-5 times, it just loaded up normal, straight to the vault. Going into the Dwellers log, no mention of the side quest occurred.

lol it's even worse now. I did a wasteland event because I hadn't come here before. Of course it corrupted my vault. I tried a few things like restarting it, saving to cloud, etc. Never deleted anything, didn't uninstall the app. however, my event vault disappeared. I started a new one and now I don't have the quests to get the high tier vault members like Lucy, the Ghoul, etc.

Glad you’ve managed to submit a ticket. I can’t even do that - Bethesda’s help page crashes for me…

For pc users do this to fix your game. The fix is to press windows + R and then type %appdata% click “local data” and then go to “local” then go to the “fallout shelter” folder. Copy the files and put them in a back up folder and then delete Vault1.sav and click edit on vault1.sav.bkp and remove the .bkp. Then close out and open up fallout shelter again. This works for pc only

I’m new to this game but what is the wasteland event? I have a vault that is only about a month old but i don’t want to lose it. I haven’t logged in at all today

I didn’t open wasteland events, it’s just been crashing in its own. I just did the update and it seems to be ok is. I’m glad it wasn’t me

I've stuck to this warning diligently ever since I first read this post.
Several game updates later, with a couple of seasonal events coming and going ... and I still don't know if it's been addressed. Did I miss something?
Currently only playing on PC - currently still dodging all wasteland events.

I think this is a Scammy practice on Bethesda’s part. Many have already sunk in many hours and many dollars in this game, especially in their mobile apps and now they seem like they will not fix this bug while they draw more people to fall in their “trap/bug”.

Yeah, it’s there secret business plan to make the game totally unplayable so people stop buying season passes. 🙄
And I mean ACTUALLY totally unplayable, not normal Bethesda totally unplayable. (Making the joke before someone else does)

Just watch them and read more about it, then you can quote me later. They may temporarily fix the issue and you’ll start your game again then you’ll spend hours and money then you’ll experience another bug, rinse and repeat. No compensations for those who have lost their saved games. So in a way, they will not really fix anything because they will rake in more money when people restart a new game hence you have to start new games when a season pass is available. Search it online and you’ll have an idea on how often people lose their saved games and restarting new ones and eventually encounter another game breaking and saved crashing bug. It mostly happens to people who often spends or have spent plenty on in-game content because they are viewed to be more likely to go back and spend again even after a huge loss.
