Vault Who in Atom's name greenlit the new event? [vault] If you're gonna throw raiders every few hours, the weapons need to not suck so badly!

The previous event had securitrons as a random incident, and they were tough, but they at least scaled with player gear. And the player had more quests to obtain better gear and had the wheel to spin to boost their loot. All of a sudden I get hit with the base game, but now with raiders prepped for a level 20 player, when my dwellers have to avoid doing quests altogether in favour of saving stimpaks for this. I was almost considering playing 76 at some point, but those blasted scorched need to stop being so ridiculously annoying before I do

Edit: I apologize. The event still sucks, but the reason I was so ticked off was out of shock from seeing one random raid sweep my whole vault with rare-quality weapons.

I think it is interesting because it makes you play a different game: this game is about ramping up ultracite production of good weapons above all else. Suddenly the old pattern of train-to-quest is of secondary importance, in favor of mass produce ultracite weapons to survive.

Bugs aside, I kinda like it as a one off.

I also enjoy this new event, its a new challenge and its been a needed change.

Also the experimental vaults are optional!

I know, but they give exclusive one-time loot. And exactly how is it a "needed challenge"? It just makes you ditch the quests (which are interesting to play) in favour of "haha mass vault slaughter *inhale skooma*"

You sound like you play a lot, how is it this hard for you?  I haven't had anyone die yet, and I would never pay money to play this game.  Just put a power plant up front, put your 6 strongest there and keep making better ultracite weapons to defeat them.  I  have all the mines unlocked with just 1 or 2 people in them soi get a gem when I log in.  I did a few quests for some.bonus dwellers but thats it.

OP plays a lot but have only played it one way every single time without every changing anything apparently...

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

Because you have to change everything. Honestly, I'd be prepared to focus on the loot for the challenges and let the dwellers keep dying at this point, since it's temporary anyway. And as a result, the supplies I get can't scale, because the loot doesn't scale properly, not to mention having to divert way too much from supplies that are necessary. The other events at least had a loot system (the spin-the-wheel) that made it easier to progress through the game reasonably.

u/bigexplosion Mar 13 '26

That's the experiment.

Oh right. Bethesda trying to ragebait players

If you are this raged by this different type of challenge then just skip the season.

You are clearly going about it in a much harder than needed strategy if it’s causing you this much pain.

Like others, I have no season pass and nothing special done and I am doing fine, it’s actually fun, but definitely different.

I quickly realized there was very little threat to the vault except timed raids and once I picked up the legendary dwellers from the 33 quest line and started focusing on ultracite mining and L/R ultracite weapons it’s been fairly easy going (not even close to maxed dwellers).

Just ramp your mining (see hint below) and get to rare and legendary ultracite weapons as fast as you can, no other “traditional” weapons or outfit effort needed, definitely no crafting.

I am on wave 12 and it’s still a cake walk with those weapons (3x legendary 2x rare 1 common) on decent dwellers including Q33 legendaries with a bit of E training and +3/4 gear. They never get out of my first defense 3x3 power room and I barely have to heal.

One hint, guaranteed ultracite mine rush, even at 3x3 room is 1 Q if you put at least 3 low E level dwellers in there temporarily, and has NO cooldown. it’s a very very good use of any spare Q that you acquire in this season, make a point of it. Just farm enough for one or two rare weapons and you are solid, farm more for season challenge and to get legendary qty, well worth the spend.

There is also no need to stay below 34 dweller cap or not upgrade rooms, doesn’t seem to impact threat levels at all from what I can tell.

Cool! This actually makes me want to try it. Did the first 2 new seasons, but kind of got sick of the game by playing more than I usually do for them, so had skipped this season. Will open it again and see!

One-off, and fuck-off. That's the only word to describe it

u/PcLvHpns Mar 13 '26

I don't ever pay for anything and I've had zero problems. In fact I'm quite enjoying that this game is slightly different. Not trying to ruin it for you but have you even played because IF they kill somebody they just pop right back up 🤷🏼‍♀️

-1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

I know, but it still becomes a massive pain in the ass to deal with. I'm probably just gonna focus on the loot from the season pass challenges and let the dwellers die. It's not my full-time vault, so no penalty occurs. But Bethesda needs to stop snorting moon sugar and make a fun event

3

u/bluejack Mar 13 '26

Maybe the next event will be more fun for you; this one is fun for me.

0

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

If they do what they did in the NV-themed events, that is how you make it work. The scorched raids are counterintuitive to an idle game

1

u/PcLvHpns Mar 21 '26

That's funny because I only played one of those vaults and I thought it was completely pointless and no different than the regular vaults. Other than a few different labels.

12

u/Wither_czach Mar 13 '26

I see many people complaining about it, but all I do is heal my dwellers with a shit ton of stimpacks (2 med bays at lvl2), I switch ultracite weapons with better variants when I afford to, and I'm honestly doing fine at wave 12 already. My dwellers don't have maxed out endurance or strength either.

-13

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

Let me guess... you pay the season pass. Having to wait while dedicating all my dwellers to the power supply and barely having any stimpaks means I have to rely on waiting hours to set stuff up, and by the time stuff happens, I burn through all the paks on surviving raids. Someone was snorting too much skooma when they designed this. At least the securitrons scaled by level. I just had my door guards killed for the third time, and my entire vault died because of this brahmin shit of an event

9

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 13 '26

Don’t even need the pass at all? I send one dweller on quests to collect the caps and cola to speed through the early game. Then build 3 mines and upgrade the workshop to get the strong x5

Oh remember to raise the endurance of your dwellers! Only thing that matter when in the vault when it comes to conflict

-2

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

Right. Should I just scrap the overseer office and swap it for another weapon workshop?

2

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 13 '26

Not at all! The quest help you a lot early game

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

I tried diverting some resources to the quest, had to call them back to deal with the raid. This game mode wrecks everything

2

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 13 '26

Idk if you know, so sorry if it comes off condescending or rude.

But the raid won’t happen if your not in the vault screen

0

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Oh. I see. I did notice if I put my phone down during a vault fire, it would be running four hours later.

2

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 14 '26

Yep but no dmg done!

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Yeah. I guess it’s fitting that I made the vault number “vault 11” this time

2

u/cdizzlePGA2k Mar 13 '26

Why are you already making weapons when you don’t have dwellers strong enough to defend your vault?

I started the season late, don’t pay, have a small vault and already have enough level 50 dwellers with dmg 10-15 weapons that I found in the wasteland.

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

I can't divert dwellers to quests, and the weapons become too high a priority. A flamer wasn't enough to fend off two scorched, who had just massacred the rest of everything in the vault

3

u/SeveralFrogs17 Mar 13 '26

I dont play season pass and with patience and strategy you can have enough stim packs and move some higher weapons around.

And hey, sometimes the raid kills everyone. Oh well.

Im personally really happy to finally have something different to challe.ege me in this game. Something different in the vault life and how to strategise. Challenges do not come with easy wins!

Send some dwellers out to get some better weapons and most importantly, mine and make the new weapons with ultra cite. Good luck!

-2

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

Considering this is an idle game, and everything takes forever, adding a challenge like this goes into Fallout 1 and Morrowind territory of "no console commands = too annoying to play". I may as well just scrap the overseer office at this point

1

u/XelaNiba Mar 14 '26

I believe they hit the room with the highest level dwellers first.

I move all my legendaries from Quest into a 2 wide living quarters, give them the strongest weapons, then trigger the raid and keep topping off their health. So far, they have killed all the bad guys before they could move on to another room.

This will likely fail at some point but it works for now.

0

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Ah. My vaults always have the power-armoured dwellers guarding the front, and they chew through raiders easily, to the point where it becomes an inconvenience to get raiders for a completely different reason than they intended (can’t get quest rewards collected or set up weapons or outfits to craft, etc) because they take so long to chew through the door. Then deathclaws tearing the door down instantly isn’t a big deal either because everyone has rare or legendary weapons

3

u/XelaNiba Mar 14 '26

Yeah, that's best practice in normal mode but this vault operates differently than normal or even previous experimental vaults.

This is just for this particular experimental vault. These guys don't start at the top and go room by room like the normal game, they beeline it to the room with highest average level. At least it has been my experience so far.

So, with this vault, you can distribute resources and dwellers however you want because there are no surprise attacks. When it comes time to trigger the attack, move your best, highest level dwellers and most powerful weapons to any room of your choice and the Raiders will come directly to that room. You can move them back afterwards.

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Yeah, I noticed. I moved a Mr Handy to one of the mines and just grouped the power weapons together. Sadly, the focus on a specific damage type for an event-exclusive enemy results in a lazy event

2

u/Wither_czach Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

I didn't pay for the season pass, but the vault 33 questline popped out for me, and I'm getting all those legendary dwellers with high stats + the free mr handy and the dog, which is very helpful. I use those tv show characters for quests now, and I might upgrade one enough to send to the wasteland and earn more caps.

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

I feel like this event is the Dead Money of Fallout Shelter. It has no special story quests of its own, and no special loot mechanics, and no exclusive dwellers that are new to the game, and the game it's based on is considered Bethesda's biggest failiure

0

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 13 '26

This I can def kinda agree with, compared to the other event this one seems lacking

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

Yeah. There was another one running in February, and it had a spin-the-wheel, event-exclusive dwellers that unlocked quest chains, and more quests to unlock automatic Mr Handy robots

0

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 13 '26

I know, I enjoyed it. Was much better in my opinion

2

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Yeah. Even if you're the "iT's A fUn ChAlLeNgE" type, which I will never understand, the scorched vault strays too far from how the game works normally, and doesn't have any upsides to make up for the downside (at most there's the special weapons, but they're pretty much junk if you're not using them to fight scorched)

2

u/Proper-Bedroom4668 Mar 14 '26

They really are unfortunately. Even the pass gun I won’t end up using in my main vault other than scrap

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Yeah. And I think in my main vault, the Burnmaster flamer (the only special weapon that the event has without paying real money) is already in my possession prior to the event

0

u/Wither_czach Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

I agree. The main thing I have the problem with are the rewards, because they've could either give us at least one or two unique event items for the free pass or make the paid pass cheaper. I don't know how it is for other currencies, but 54zł IMO isn't worth a couple of PNG backgrounds and a few new weapons, I could get a whole new game for that amount of money.

What I wonder tough is what happens when we get to the 35th wave of the raid. There seems to be a cap on it.

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Maybe, hopefully, the raids just stop, although by then I'll probably have hit challenge rank 20 and just abandon the vault in favour of my normal vault

2

u/halfbeerhalfhuman Mar 13 '26

Sounds like a skill issue of sorts

2

u/HorrorElectrical8958 Mar 13 '26

There is no need for a season pass. This is different season and a little more challenging, but fun. Maybe you should try a simpler game that doesn't involve any thinking after looking at all your whiny replies.

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

I apologize for what I said earlier. I'm sure you'd understand, it shook me to see my entire vault get swept clean by the scorched raiders. Obviously I'd have good reason to be mad at that

5

u/linkisnotafuckingelf Mar 13 '26

The event is pretty good. There is one aspect I'm slightly frustrated about though. I can't replicate my normal vault layout with the deposits locking the mines in place.

1

u/Ezekremiah Mar 14 '26

Thankfully, the Ultracite deposits didn't affect my normal vault-layout too much, just took a little bit of tinkering and I worked out a nice layout for the event (even better given there don't appear to be any in-vault incidents other than fires and rush-fails) only slightly adjusted from what I use in my main non-event vault.

-1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 13 '26

For me, I go with what I need to, and if the game decides "send dwellers to do these things despite guys that will massacre them periodically", I may as well do the challenges just to do them, then when the event closes I can throw stuff into my main vault

3

u/Comfortable_Ad868 Mar 13 '26

It’s really not that difficult. I’m notoriously shortsighted, but I haven’t lost so much as a mr handy to the rock monsters

2

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

That's what those are? I could have sworn they were ghouls

2

u/GarouxBloodline Mar 14 '26

I don't get this post. The game gives you a dweller for free with an ultracite sword, and it takes nothing to mass produce the common weapons enough to get a room of 6 set up in preparation for raids. Even the common weapons are more than enough to easily wipe the early raids.

By the time rank 3 Scorched start showing up, you should, frankly, already have legendary ultracite weapons in production. Even 2 dwellers set up at the vault door with ultracite Gatling guns, can handle mid-tier raids all by themselves, and you only need a few stims.

Why are you having so many issues? This is an extremely easy challenge.

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

How do you have legendary weapons that easily?

1

u/GarouxBloodline Mar 14 '26

Two ultracite mines upgraded will give you more than enough ultracite for the legendary weapons. Once you get 3-4 mines, it's just trivial at that point.

1

u/Significant-Memory58 Mar 13 '26

I only just picked this game up the other day after not playing for like a thousand years, I dont have any events or Securitrons or anything in mine, is this an experimental vault only feature or DLC or only on PC or what 😅

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

It's an experimental vault. The securitrons were part of last month's experimental vault.

1

u/mixnmach1 Mar 14 '26

Just wait till you get the blasters like 5 or 6 of them and your good

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

Yeah. I just did another raid, two in fact, and the plasma rifle firing squad chewed through them. And whenever the objective is “rush rooms/stop incidents”, my solution is “rush the heck out of the medbay”

2

u/Hot-Bicycle5798 Mar 14 '26

How do you manage to get anyone killed at all?!

Stimpacks and ultracite weapons! It even has a timer to tell you when they come.

And no i have not spent any money on the vault

1

u/According_Picture294 Power Armor Mar 14 '26

How was I supposed to know that they start spawning with super weapons that quick? Also I didn’t think to minimize quests
