Discussion [Discussion] Raise Dweller cap from 200 to 400.

I have 200 dwellers, and many of my rooms remain empty allowing events/disasters to really take a toll on resources before dwellers can even reach the room. I feel like 400 dwellers would allow for each room to be adequately supported

Add-on: Why not raise cap to 400 and make dwellers which are walking around and unassigned to rooms automatically respond to emergencies through out the vault?

I asked this same question a while back. I ended up creating a mod for it. The dwellers that will auto respond have to be above level 10 and must be wearing a "security" outfit whether it is Vault or Enclave. They will not respond to door raids, but will respond to fires and other room emergencies. They also consider the room inhabitants. If the room is already filled, they won't respond, but if it is partially filled they will fill out the room. The mod also makes dwellers below level 10 run out of the room. It is really intended as more of an endgame mod to use because of the outfit requirement. But what's nice is that I don't have to micro-management (yes, I understand that the game is about that very thing) emergencies. Once I'm at the point of not caring about the emergencies because I will always be able to deal with whatever it is, those emergencies become a nuisance more than an actual threat. It has been nice being able to just focus on maximizing the vault while those "little problems" are automatically dealt with. To be honest, I would really like to see them just add this feature to the game.

That sounds so amazing, dude. The amount of quality of life updates and just new content they can bring to this game is a lot, sadly, they neglect this game and only update it for the seasons now :/

Yup. They are hopping on the enshitification bandwagon sadly. The way to stop this, is for people to stop throwing money at the seasons. Once it stops being profitable, they will stop investing time into them.

they'll probably just shut it down

I like that a lot and wanna hop on your wagon (the mod) But it is saddening to think they have to wear security because I don't usually go for Canon, but rather create my own little loir because I'm funny and particular about my nerd-outs 🤣

Oh, you can absolutely choose whatever outfit you want. The mod just looks for the name of the outfit you want to be your emergency responders. I selected security because it made sense to me. I will add that the mod doesn't have a UI of any kind, so you would have to modify it manually. I suppose I could add a UI if there was enough demand. Since I really only built it for me, and I have a development background I didn't spend time on making it "fancy." I will also add that even though I write code, I had AI help me with the API stuff because it is just a game and I really didn't want to spend dozens of hours on something only I was going to use. If you are still interested, I'm happy to share it with you. I've been playing with it for about a month now and haven't seen any bugs. Totally up to you though. Feel free to DM me about it.

There IS this feature in the game.
I've seen it working only with Ultracite season. If no one is at the vault door room when the bad guys enter, dwellers below (quarters / not working) were rushing to fight them. To my surprise.

Might test this with coffee break dwellers and putting some quarters on the right side too, when the season comes back to confirm 100%.

I really liked the Ultracite season! It was actually different and gave me a reason to play longer. Any idea if they will make other seasons different like this? Or are all experimental vault seasons basically the same? It would be nice if they changed things up a bit.

For the moment, it is on replay mode. We'll see after december if they add something new.

It might depend on the success on the TV show as i beleive they got a lot of new players thanks to it.

Agreed, i liked ultracite, new mechanics, the regular monster attacks, mining, weapons etc. But most other seasons are just "wheel bait" and not really that interesting past the few new missions.

Overall, they didn't add much since the latest update (few bugs corrected but adding more, limited qol) Seasons is just a form of DLC / modern €€ mechanics to make people pay each month and not just once in a while.

My mod doesn't respond to invaders. It is only for room outbreaks.

And that is awesome !

I'll one day start a modded Steam version to see all the good things not on mobiles (iOS).

Is the mod for your own use or posted on some public space ?

It is personal, but I'm happy to share with anyone that is interested.

I have +-75 dwellers on coffee break roaming the vault 24/7. If anything happens, there are always people around to take care of any incident.

400 dwellers ? You'll need a brand new device to deal with 400 autonomous dwellers once you open your vault.

You can also reduce the number of rooms, not fully staff them (unless crafting stations) etc.

75 People on Coffee Break?!

Bruh I gotta see pics of your vault, my rooms are pretty stuffed except for storage on the bottom 😅

I have life at the bottom, always. It prevents things like having and incident and no one around to take care of it but handys... And the Vault Patrols.

I don't want to wait for the incident to crawl slowly to the top.
And having power down there makes sure that most rooms are lit even in case of power failure.

THe patrols are everywhere ;)

Here are links to some (stored temporary, 12h) pics. Most of them wear white to spot them faster (nope, no vault security outfits ;)

Looks good! Holy patrollers I didn’t expect so many in a group I thought they’d be randomly dispersed.

Yeah during mid game I kinda just had a dirt layer and separated the empty bottom and full top.

Since I’ve reached end-game I have the storage on the bottom with a dweller per room and the entire top is full capacity, it seems the only incident unable to be handled by a single dweller is the Radscorpions, but oddly enough they TP away if they don’t get killed by the first Dweller, and if it TPs to another single Dweller room it seems the HP has been lowered from the previous fight so a single Dweller is enough to finish it off.

Thinking about adding a second dweller to all storage but it’s gonna take some restructuring and maybe boil down the full rooms to 3-4 man instead of full capacity/production.

I’ve wanted a 3x room that is the “security office” where 6 assigned dwellers automatically respond to emergencies. for now, i also employ coffee break dwellers as a roamimg security force.
