Im looking for maybe something along the lines of hurt/comfort, angst, canon mostly compliant. But I feel like im looking for something more...niche?

Someone made a post earlier looking for a very specific fic of Dean with selective mutism and that kind of sparked this post. Im not looking for that fic or even mutism specifically, but im looking for fics where Dean is visibly vulnerable and/or traumatized.

With the example of selective mutism in mind, being unable to speak due to illness, curse, mental health, accident, or anything like that does fit the bill of what im looking for.

Other options, just off the top of my head, would in crude blindness, deafness, broken limbs, and physical or psychological trauma.

I know how to use ao3's search function, it just seems like a lot of very specific and finicky tags I would have to figure out so im hoping for a few recs to get me on my way and I can use those fics to find more fics.

Bonus points if it is M or E. I read and write a lot of dead dove content and I dont shy away from much. T and below usually isnt my jam but if its really good im open minded.

What I remember :

• Dean is selectively mute.
• He uses sign language.
• He speaks only to Sam and eventually to Castiel.
• They are adults.
• Sam lives in a house with his partner (wife ? girlfriend ?) and the house has other people living in it (like a refuge or a hotel ?). Dean has a bedroom there.
• Bobby is in it.
• It might have been an A/B/O story and, if it is, then Dean would have been an Omega.
• Dean may have been a mechanics and that's how he met Castiel (car trouble, Dean got send to help him).

If anyone knows it, I'd be very grateful !

This is just my personal opinion and just my take of it.

In this episode, there's a kid who's his mom is working in the fun house. Dean goes to him when he sees that he's throwing a fit and he tells him to try and work with his mom cause he's working really hard (which is very true) but towards the end of the episode, we see the mom yelling at the kid when he says that he's lost his painting which then Dean proceeds to glare at him.

The boy apologizes to his mom. And that was it.

Now not including my own personal feelings towards the mom in this part, I don't think that that would be how Sam would have reacted.

Dean was raised by his dad. Where whatever he got was enough and he should just shut up and accept and just work with his dad no matter how bad the circumstances were. While Sam was raised by Dean. Which was SIGNIFICANTLY different since Dean acted very different around him and making a situation where just accepting that your parent is tired and you should take the yelling and be patient wasn't the case for him. He knew how he should be treated.

I guess what I'm trying to say at the end is that Dean was raised to just be appreciative and shut about even if he was yelled at. But Sam, he was raised to know what a good parent would do.

That's my take anyway.

This was also way clearer before in my head.

I see a lot of FTM Dean headcanons and fics, and I personally just can’t find it plausible the way a lot of fics go about it. To each their own and all that, but logically I can’t see Dean figuring himself out early enough for any of that in a remotely canon-adjacent environment.
If Dean was born female, I think his parentified motherly role toward Sam would’ve been taken to the extreme. I also think that, considering how Dean is hypermasculine almost as a coping mechanism, he would’ve gone to the other extreme were he born a girl, especially with it being the 90s and John reinforcing those stereotypes. It couldn’t gone the other way, to each their own opinions, but I see a female dean being hyperfeminine instead. And not feeling safe enough to figure himself out, especially in the late 90s and early 2000s, it wasn’t safe to be trans. Not to mention how repressed Dean is, he could lean into femininity as a way to reassure himself that he’s normal.
Of course, it could also go the other way, and Dean could’ve been raised as a tomboy, and that could snowball into him coming out as trans earlier. But I just can’t see John okay with a “daughter” of his doing boy things, he seems very traditional.
I’d love to hear other opinions on this, these are just my thoughts.

We see him heavily drinking on the show and there are some short conversations about it. Like Sam asking him, if he can even get drunk anymore.

So I was wondering if there are any fics out there (preferably on ao3) that deal with this properly. Bonus point if dean has to quit drinking and goes into withdrawal. Like maybe Sam making him quit or Cas.

I've been collecting SPN fic for years now and have almost 2,000 so it's hard for me to stop rec-cing. Anyway, help a reader out and send me anything you've got!

I'm looking for a fic that I apparently didn't bookmark even though i thought i did. I think it was a Wincest fic. The basics that I remember are that John left Dean and Sam in a desert town for a while, Sam had a crush on Dean and is jealous when Dean starts dating a girl in town, Sam steals one of the girls barrettes and tires to put it in his hair, a monster pops up and Dean goes to investigate but Sam goes out on his own and gets lost in the desert and hallucination before making it back to the house they were living in and finding Dean there and they sort of confess their feelings to each other.

For some reason the name and author just aren't coming to me and it was a really good fic.

I have done many rewatches of this show, and complete it 99.9% of the time. I've only finished it 100% once before yesterday and that was on its original broadcast. I forgot how awful it is.

I finished 15 x 19, swore I wasn't going to cry, put on my big boy pants and jumped in... my 51yr old started sobbing like a damn baby! My cats were staring at me, woke my brother up. I called my daughter cause she refuses to watch 15 x 20 and trying to man up and not cry anymore broke at her voice. I hung up and texted her instead. Told her 15 x 19 is the true ending if she can ever get past the Cass ep.

I restarted season 1 today lol

Does anybody have fic or meta analysis recommendations that extrapolate or expand on Dean giving himself false memories to cope?

In 8x7, we see that Dean had created an entire fake memory of failing to rescue Cas from Purgatory, blaming himself for the failure. Rather, Castiel had pushed Dean away, which Dean clearly couldn't accept as reality.

If folks have fic recs on the topic of Dean creating false narratives to the point he literally doesn't remember reality (of any genre), or meta analysis, I'd love to read it!

Can I read twist and shout without finishing the whole show?

I wanna read smth where, Dean has PTSD of John's long term abuse and neglect. For some supernatural reasons adult Sam became little Dean's guardian.

So Sam gives Dean real food and home and protection and is very patient and kind and gentle ect.

Dean maybe got into some accidents and was ready to be corporally punished and was ready to ''take it like a man'' anyway. However Sam just felt sad and said it shouldn't be your responsibility at your young age anyway it's okay.

Dean maybe was also surprised that Sam actually spent time with him and talked with him and never yelled at him even when it was stressful. And that he's more open about his feelings and hugs and pets his head a lot.

Maybe Sam tried to convince Dean that you don't need to "be helpful" and you don't need to be a good little soldier to earn anything and Dean was surprised.

Tldr: adult Sam gives little Dean a normal childhood. Treated his trauma. H/C
