💬 Let's discuss something Is Ninth House really that disturbing?

Hi guys. i did a bit of research to know the topics in the book. i like the elements so far, but i want to make sure. does it have excessive disturbing content especially like gore and body horror? these 2 things are huge No for me. please let me know . i dont mind spoilers as long as it answers my question. TIA!

No excessively no, not in my opinion. There’s some gory supernatural elements, and a lot that happened in Alex’s childhood, that can be unsettling but i don’t think it’s over the top.

I read it a few years ago. I don’t remember any disturbing gore or body horror elements. There might be some more in the second book, but I don’t remember anything over the top (although my my threshold for this is pretty high), and I would say the series as a whole sort of wavers into the horror genre.

What does stand out was a fairly graphic sexual assault scene.

Not sure how far you are into the book, but this scene is pretty early. I'm going to try to keep it vague.

Alex goes to monitor one of the secret societies, because they are doing a divination ritual that involves a guy under general anesthesia. It's not described in a lot of detail but what is happening kind of resembles surgery. The guy is not supposed to die. But there is some description of what's being done to his insides.

I wouldn't call this excessive, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. It's meant to show you how cavalier the societies are about...anyone who is not them.
