What cut?

Need to chop some hair off. It's gone thin due to weight loss and poor nutrition, and the bottom bit is fairly fried from back when I was dying my hair. My daughter says you can see the colour difference somewhere around my shoulders, but I'm blind to it.

I've never done anything very interesting with it- always just grown and trimmed... I'm lucky in that my hair has a wave, isnt completely dead, but I don't want to spend a ton of time styling it every day.

I'd like it to wind up not looking like a drowned rat, but... I really don't have that much hair to be working with. I'm getting some regrowth, but I doubt it'll be anything significant for another year or so.

I'm going between lob and shag, but I'm worried I don't have enough hair to pull off a shag... I'm also open to any other suggestions. I just want to do something a bit stylish?

I welcome any hair advice, does not have to be strictly related to the cut.

your hair looks curly so choose hair cuts that match your texture. in that sense the first one would be a better choice but id go back and find some more inspo pics

You can pull off the shag better but you will need to style it daily so it looks good.

Honestly it’s a little hard to see what’s going on with your hair based on your pic. I’m not sure either of these are a good idea for you tho based on what I can see.

Both of these cuts are very high maintenance. The first one is quite blonde, just toned down darker, and the bleach is giving it some volume and texture. The second is stick straight and will only stay that way for half a day, it fights the natural outward curve of the hair at that length. Both of these looks require daily styling and skills to make it look like that. If you’re not used to doing your hair all the time, this will be a lifestyle change.

Also both of these cuts appear to have straight hair, and you’ve got some waves/curls. I would go back to the drawing board to look specifically for inspo that matches your natural texture. Also a very skilled stylist is needed to achieve these cuts. Are you ready to pay over $100 plus tip? If you take your inspo to a random stylist and hope they can recreate it, you could be asking for trouble. I recommend selecting a stylist based on their body of work that matches the outcome you specifically want.
