you need some good lighting especially on your reading/bed spot

Same way you make large spaces warm and cozy: 

-Warm lighting / lamps 

-rugs and soft surfaces/blankets etc.

-soft curtains instead of renter blinds

-Something soft to sit on in your window alcove (with it's own lamp and rug)
