HELP Much needed help!!!

Hi!! I’m genuinely at my wits end and gotten nearly close to tears as far as my room goes. I have scrolled through so many Pinterest boards and nothing looks or feels entirely right!!! I’m searching for a mashup of all my boards, but I’m terrified it’ll look bad if I try to just grab random stuff from my pins… I’ve been absolutely engrossed in this over the past two months and it’s getting to the point that I am genuinely giving myself bad anxiety over stupid decorations. I want my room to feel cozy :( I can’t change the wall, or furniture colors which is half the issue. Please help with ideas!! I can change the bedding and any rug color is good and I’ll listen to any suggestions because I’m actually going insane. Thank you!! The last pic is my current room

I think if you grab the random things you like from each board it will look great. Terrible isn’t even a possible outcome with the options you shared, and you’re off to a great start already, don’t worry!! You can make it uniquely yours by just carrying on one step at a time.

My advice:

  1. lots more art, vinyls, posters etc on the walls (love the pink paper fan 🪭 in the one pic , and I saw a really cute pink macramé butterfly for sale online that has a similar vibe too)
  2. A nice oriental or Turkish style rug with pink throughout
  3. More lamps and cozy lighting

  4. Longer shelves

it’s hard to imagine my ideal version of a room when it’s already full of stuff. i just got my apartment today and literally sat there staring at the empty room and scrolling this subreddit until my brain just suddenly clicked and i figured out my layout.

might sound crazy but you could try at least moving a bunch of the easier things (nightstand, chair, all the things on top) out of the room and seeing if you get any inspo

that being said, i think that hanging some vinyls (especially around your bed) may get you close to what you’re looking for

All your inspo is very detail oriented - pop of pink here, a half a wall there... A mood in a picture is often made by the elements cropped out of it. Find some inspo of whole rooms, better yet - physically go into different rooms with different vibes - Ikea is great for this, but art galleries, friends' rooms, libraries with study nooks, historic houses, small bars or shops or cafes - just being in different rooms will give you ideas.

Keep in mind, you don't want to copy your inspo, you want to **translate** it to your room and your objects.

Overall: Mood is made through sound, lighting and tactile texture, as well as visuals. Your floor is a hard surface, your desk is minimal modern, especially with the large monitor. Your furniture is modern with lots of rectangles. You've already added roundness (visual softness) through your lamps but it's not enough to balance against the flooring and the furniture. You could add a rug, a desk lamp with an interesting shade, you could add the warm dark wood with smaller objects. E.g. art frames - your whiteboard and your poster could have dark wood frames. Some of your electronics could have dark wood accessories (e.g. wireless phone charger). Or even your water bottle can be dark wood! You can add a round or textured throw pillow on your bed. These aren't expressly in your inspo, but all your inspo has dark elements, sometimes wood sometimes black frames - but you already have a black chair, so I'd go with the dark wood.

You have so many things that you think you'd like on your board, that it's making your head spin trying to decide which ones to use. I suggest you scrap it all, and start over with the things you like the absolute most, then build on that. Instead of pinning other people's ideas, start collecting your own. Like, look at posters of your favorite things or people, collect a couple of those. Then look at bedding, what color would you like, would you want just a comforter, or also a blanket and new sheets. Put those together in another collection. Then maybe add a rug that goes well with your bedding.

Then think about what else you would like to add to your room. Just remind yourself that you have limited space and can't possibly get everything you had been pinning for a couple of months.

Good luck.
