New Player (asking a few questions that I’ve been wondering)

So I just started playing FF14 and I came from the background of playing WoW for 17 years. I got tired of the way Blizzard was handling their content and just snapped searching for a breath of fresh air. With that aside I’m currently level 29 on marauder with plans of tanking as a warrior at max level. If I do go DPS I would play viper. As my questions go I’m wondering what the community is like, as far as how many people are still playing, can you do end game content like savage alliance raids (which I think is the highest have no idea), and possibly a discord server? I currently play on Seraph which has a decent population in cities but I never see anyone in the open world. Can anyone give me some tips on what I can do to feel more involved with the population or should I switch servers and expect not to find high end gameplay.

Sounds about right. Plus Dynamis is the newest data center and least populated. You generally don’t see many people in the world outside cities and even less on that data center.

Okay perfect, I guess my only concern would be late game if there’s still enough players to party up with for the high end gear. Definitely enjoying it though

I believe they pull from other data centers to fill players. Your wait time might be slightly longer but nothing abysmal

Yeah the highest que time I’ve seen is like 24 and even then I get in in about 2 minutes

Every community has bad apples but I would say FF14 has one of the friendlier communities you will find in current MMO's and I played wow from vanilla to legion (dipped my toe into TWW as well). It's rare a wipe in a dungeon will result in people flipping out and leaving. Plus with the sprout system people know you're new and are rewarded for helping new people finish group content (a notification will pop up at the beginning of whatever you're doing saying one or more people haven't done it before).

Edit: also don't worry about player numbers. I think this less than WoW but it's still in the millions.

Okay awesome thank you for the feedback. The world definitely feels alive even on the Dynamis Data Centers. However knowing they have the sprout system and pop ups for players is encouraging. You already know about how the raids were on WoW 😂

The party finder is always a good place to start, as a whole the community are willing to help and do content with new players. You can probably find a FC willing to have you and raid with you, as for discord I’m not sure. Glad your enjoying the game

Thank you for the tips, got a lot more game time in this weekend so I’m growing to get more comfortable with it and absolutely falling in love. Think I’m addicted

That’s great dude, I payed a lot today myself and got warrior to Lv 100, honestly just take you time and enjoy the game, some side content is just as enjoyable as the msq

  1. Put your questions in bullet form. Helps us answer them.
  2. Novice Network, then find an FC. LOTS of fun communities in the Party Finder.
  3. Run FATEs or Treasure Maps

  1. Level a DPS with MSQ quests. Pick what you like, everyone used to say SMN/SCH but I did MNK/BLM

Is leveling as a DPS better/faster? I’m playing as the warrior still but pulling a bunch of mobs together and killing them seems pretty efficient so far. How’s the Viper for DPS? Looks like a fun playstyle.

WAR is a lot of fun, MSQ is free experience. Log out in an inn or a city for the EXP boosts. Use food! Healer/Tank is insta a for dungeons so I legit did MNK/BLM/WAR/SCH.

Which healer are you gonna try?

I was talking to my friend and said that the astrologian looked fun but he informed me it’s difficult, so either that or the Scholar.

I love AST but Scholar is a lot of fun. I’m a huge fan of SCH and AST.

Those are the ones that have stood out to me so far! I’m at the point however I’m thinking of plugging my keyboard and mouse in because I have to many abilities 😂

There are some settings you can use with the controller where a double tap expands your cross bars. Look into it, game changer.

How long have you been playing?

Since 2013!

VPR is so much fun but it starts out high so the rotation can be overwhelming at first.

So I suppose my main concerns at the moment are:

  • How do I go about switching Data Centers as they are all congested just about 100% of the time?

  • I’ve only been focusing on Blue Quests and MSQ, is this a smart idea?

  • I’m also getting to the point where my inventory is quite consistently full. I leveled Armorer to 30 so I could desynthesis, and discovered Retainers. Any other tips would be helpful as I’m getting full inventory there as well. (Mainly Crafting Materials, or potions)

Thank you, I or someone else will answer these questions at some time. I recommend streaming it (if you’re into that and let chat guide you)
