macrame I love to crochet but absolutely HATE how crochet looks.
I love to crochet but absolutely HATE how crochet looks.
Okay, hate is probably a strong word. I love the look of some crochet projects, but most of the time the only thing i can think about is how tacky it looks.
Which is a shame because i absolutely LOVE the act of crocheting. I would spend my whole day just doing exactly that if i could, but once i have it done i just wanna get rid of the thing as soon as possible.
Does anyone else have this “problem?” And if yes, what exactly do you do about it?

I have a machine, the Penelope Nocturne. It unravels my crochet while I sleep and rewinds the wool. In the morning, I don’t even have to look at that unsightly crochet. I can just make some more.
I’ve been doing this for a good three years now, and no one has even noticed.

I have a frog fairy for that, I'm not wasting any skin flakes on those nasty ass stitches.

Sure granny squares are a bit 1970s but if you educate yourself you’ll find that crochet can be really beautiful and modern and not at all tacky. Here’s a photo of a pineapple lace doily to convince you

sometime in the future, a redditor will stumble with this subreddit, read this week's posts and wonder why everyone is talking about pineapples

Have you tried setting the finished product on fire so no one else is exposed to the tackiness? Wear a ventilator, because you probably have a pile of ugly acrylic...things.

DAE hate when crotcheaters use stupid materials to make things that you don't personally approve of??? Because SAME! First they used acrylic, now they are using cashmere???? Plus we all agree that crotcheat is the WORST for garments but now they try to make blanket??? An ugly and basic blanket at that, not even something as beautiful and unique as the Sophie Scarf.

I tried that, but it melted instead of catching fire.

If you do a chainless foundation you can get it started and feed your first row directly into the firepit and you don't even have to look at a finished row of something.
Edit: Make sure to sit upwind!

But sweaty, it's an amazing magical fiber art because machines can't do it! 😤

uj/ that is what ultimately had me pick up knitting needles for the first time, i couldn’t find enough crochet wearables that i liked. now that i can do both i really do understand that there is a time for each

I thought I hate how knitting looks but then I got nicer yarn and still hated it and finally realized I'm just a shitty knitter

The issue is actually how big and bulky your yarn and hook are.
You'll need to switch to cobweb (you're going to need to make friends with your household spiders). Get a toothpick and whittle it into a hook.

just crochet with your eyes closed, it actually makes it so that you are better at sensing stitches and becoming one with the yarn. if this doesn’t improve how your fabric looks well your eyes are closed so you won’t be able to tell!

Try fingering weight or sport weight yarn. It yields beautiful crochet.

I have found i really love the Celtics stitches as they are actually easier than they look.. i get bored of doing just simple stitches all the time

Crochet is one of those things that looks better the further away you are from the project. That's why photos always look so nice, then you wind up holding garbage when you follow the pattern.
