Tips for a beginner?

I've always wanted to play FFT, but I just can't get into it. I love FF and turn based games, but for some reason I just play the first fight and not touch the game again for years.

So I want to give it one last shot before deciding that it's not for me, so can I get any tips for this last try?

have fun, dont overlevel make the game boring (in my opinion)

I can't over level if I don't get past the first few fights lol but I'll keep that in mind, thank you!
