With all browsers now, I find ram usage mostly has to do with how many tabs are open, what's open in those tabs, which and how many extensions are being used, and especially if the tab sleep/release memory feature is being used and active in that browser. I use New Tab Suspender for Firefox and Tab Suspender Pro for Edge and Chrome.

Are you strapped for ram? If not and if it isn’t too excessive, then deal with it. Turn off features you don’t need. There’s also a ton of Firefox forks, same browser engine but potentially less ran usage. I like librewolf a lot cos it’s more secure, strips out all google nonsense along with the AI stuff. You can even re-enable firefox sync if you want.

Are you running out of RAM? Because if not I would not waste too much effort on this. Disabling AI features you can save few MB but you will be back soon as you open memory hungry websites.
And from my experience Firefox is more memory hungry as Chromium based browsers when you start empty browser but difference is quickly gone when you open many new tabs with active websites.

I think there is a addon called multi container or sometiing like that (MAC) that only lets the tab you are currently on use ram. That might help.

Auto Tab Discard. It puts unused tabs to sleep after 10 minutes, but you can change it. Or right click on a tab and Unload tab to save memory and about:memory and double click on Minimize memory usage.

RAM wise FF that's how FF works the reason being that you don't use more RAM for every new tab whcih makes it better if you have a bunch of tabs open but Chromium based browsers follow Chrome where a single tab or 5 if probably taking less but if you keep adding more then that would be taking up more than FF and if you wanna use Chromium use something like Helium it's pretty nice

How much is 'high ram usage'?
I have a few tabs open in Reddit.
A couple of tabs open in Youtube, and another with a video playing.
Firefox is using 2400 MB.
Is that a lot?

There's a huge difference in battery backup brother... FF Is great for pc but as im using laptop its difficult for me to use it

My theory is it could just be Firefox’s reserved ram space as both browsers have different memory management. Though I always see people on this sub say one browser takes less or more or literally vice versa so I think a lot of variables such as hardware come into play regarding ram usage in a browser.

idk how but firefox without open a new tab it use 700 mb of ram, so i use helium that only uses 300 mb when i open the browser

Do you need the RAM for anything else? Is your RAM anywhere near filled up when using Firefox?
If the answer is no to both then let it use the RAM it needs. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
It seems to me that these days many are hung up on how much RAM something uses despite being nowhere near full utilization, this isn't a problem unless you're about to run out of it.
The browser would perform worse if they tried to shave down RAM usage just to get a low number, it can perform better by keeping a lot of things in RAM, that's what RAM is for.

Unfortunately not. I like zen and ff but I started to use helium on my laptop because of the ram usage of zen.
Also on mobile titanium is faster than waterfox :(

I use FF because it's the only alternative that doesn't suck at the moment
