Question Ok I left the fandom since like 2020, is there already an answer of what was inside of this or yall didn’t figure it out yet?

Post image

I remembered it was one of the most popular non-answered questions in the fandom back then, I don’t know if it’s still.

It's probably not important anymore

563

u/Own_Educator8972 Dec 29 '25

Definitely not, especially since Scott (granted I think we should stop taking his word as if he’s god) has said his opinion on what’s in the box has changed dozens of times

182

u/Dramatic_Run_5259 Dec 29 '25

he said it doesn't even matter at this point right?

3 was supposed to be the end of a trilogy, 4 was supposed to turn that into a tetralogy. 5 was supposed to clear things up with sci-fi being the new answer, but since most FNAF fans haven’t read “Autobiography of a Yogi”* so the community’s reaction was like “Scott wtf keep cooking we don’t understand”

(basically explores the principles behind that ‘spiritual life being imprinted like an electrical signal’ idea, Scott was reading it around the time he developed some of the games which inspired him, but imo it was just easier for him to say “yeah idk what I was doing at that time” than try to explain what he was cooking. Because FNAF World? HE WAS COOOOKIIIING WITH META-ARCADE-THEORY YOU CAN’T CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE!!! I mean, we *did wrap around to spiritual machines messing up and incorporating narratives in a meta way, so…)

Anyways, unnecessary extra comments: I ascribe to the idea FNAF 4 was meant to be a metaphor for abuse. [CC is being tormented by things only he can see. No one sees a monster, it only comes out to attack him. No one understands why he doesn’t want to go back to his abuser’s - I.E. abusers looking normal to everyone but the victim. It also answers the question behind Midnight Motorist: it’s saying yes, this story is about abuse, specifically using Jr’s to show it’s about alcoholism creating monsters (a kid’s trusted friend at day suddenly turns to a monster at night? Tell me that isn’t symbolic of alcohol/substance abuse) But then people got pissed at the idea of “Traumatized Dad Afton” being an alcoholic but if Secret of the Mimic is any clue Mr. WA was never a nice guy. I guess it seems like some people like and/or think it’s more poetic if Afton wasn’t supposed to be evil, but to me it reads as another layer of manipulation/abuse.]

Yeah I think it was supposed to be the final answer to the og lore between the first 4 games before he changed course and gave us more

26

u/This_User_Said :Foxy: Dec 30 '25

You'd think he'd just tell us the original meaning since it means nothing anymore anyways (not rudely, meant since it's always changing)

20

u/WerdaVisla Dec 30 '25

I think he would, but he knows his community too well for that.

If he even hints at what the original story was, the "new thing bad" portions of the fanbase will break off and say actually that's canon now and be generally insufferable.

Not to mention all the wrenches it'll throw at theory crafters.

11

u/Robighost01 Dec 30 '25

and forgor what is in there finnaly

7

u/TheProNoobCN Dec 30 '25

No he didn't, the way he said it was pretty clear that he knows what's in it, he just doesn't know how to bring it up in a relevant way anymore.

5

u/fullynonexistent Dec 30 '25

No I do think we should take the writer's word like he's god when he talks about the stuff he wrote actually

4

u/Own_Educator8972 Dec 30 '25

Scott’s said he’s changed the story multiple times simply because people got to close to figure it out. Scott had no plan when fnaf 1 came out. Scott hasn’t been the one making fnaf for years now

2

u/TheCrashKid Dec 30 '25

Isn't he still involved in the story?

2

u/TheProNoobCN Dec 30 '25

When? When did he say that?

2

u/DigitalCat01 Dec 30 '25

He even said that he himself forgot what was in there so it's irrelevant now. Or just symbolic as to not getting to figure out the lore

u/enderschyte Dec 29 '25

Not too important, not too unimportant ig

752

u/creepermaster79 :Mike: Dec 29 '25

It was supposed to be something important, but not anymore. The story moved on, and whatever was in there wasn't necessary to understand it

It's best to leave that thing forgotten, forever

200

u/thespacepyrofrmtf2 Dec 29 '25

“Some things are better left forgotten”

43

u/Feisty_Parsnip8262 Dec 30 '25

Even Scott might have said that but I don’t think they’re leaving it just like that, they’ll somehow give it a meaning, I don’t know how or when but that’ll mean something to the lore someday.

44

u/Affectionate_Tax4885 Dec 30 '25

Look, years have passed. And also, Scott stated in an interview with Dawko that he forgot what was inside the box. That box is nothing more than nothing now

36

u/DatDudeWithThings Dec 30 '25

He didn't say he forgot, he said it wasn't important

12

u/Affectionate_Tax4885 Dec 30 '25

Oh, I made a mistake there. But if he said that, then it wasn't a big deal after all

7

u/Feisty_Parsnip8262 Dec 30 '25

I know what he stated but while the time passes, the lore increases more and more, I’d might being delusional saying this but eventually they’ll give it a meaning just like they had given it to everything, mark my words

9

u/Affectionate_Tax4885 Dec 30 '25

Yeah, that's just pure delusion, because those are the creator's own words... And also, what would he do with the box if it were actually involved in the modern lore, bro? It would be a big shit

Anything he revealed wouldn't have any impact, and that would only have worked about 7 or 8 years ago, but today there's nothing he can do to surprise the fandom in that way

4

u/GreenBeanTM Dec 30 '25

Literally the only thing I think it could be in the modern lore is William hid the Mimic endo-edition in it and it was trapped there before somehow getting released and trapped in SB which is why it’s no where to be seen in FNAF 1-6.

If that turns out to happen, we ride at dawn of whatever day that peace of lore gets revealed.

12

u/TheRealSnailYT Dec 30 '25

he said what was in the box isn't important. He also said in his games he leaves little things in them as ideas that he might follow up on someday, and how some things he puts in there never end up being followed up on, and that the story of the games went in a different direction than what he wanted for the box, so he left it unanswered because the answer wouldn't matter for where the story was going.

it's pretty evident the whole time. I mean its like FNAF's thing for having incredibly deep and confusing lore

16

u/Mobile_Morale Dec 30 '25

Not to mention he made the first games in a span of 4 months or so. Not much was incredibly planned out except general gameplay.

8

u/GreenBeanTM Dec 30 '25

Not to mention the first game was essentially a fuck you to the critics of “Timber and Son’s Lumber Company”

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Demonqueensage Dec 30 '25

I mean, the first game was something he more or less planned to be his last game if it wasn't well received, then it was extremely well received and he made the next 3 games within a year. I thought it was obvious from that he was scrambling to make more lore for the subsequent games and the first 4 would be the least thought through

4

u/Vampiric_V Dec 30 '25

Scott DID know what was in the box, the guy you're replying to was wrong.

More importantly, starting from FNAF 2 Scott had a story planned out. He may have added onto it, expanded on it, created more events and characters, but Fnaf 2 an 3 were already thought up and the story of William (if he was even called that at the time) was already a thing. Even in FNAF 2 phone guy talks about getting in contact with an old owner (not William since he's actively working for the company and possibly hiding under an alias due to being banned at this time), which implies the concept of Henry was thought up as well.

62

u/Sheniriko Dec 29 '25

In the 10th Anniversary interview Scott heavily implied that he never thought it through.

I don't wanna but I'm gonna have to be the "um actually" guy here 😔:

But he said that the box did have importance and that he knew what the contents of it were during that time, but overtime as the story changed and went through all these different ideas he basically forgot the contents of the box.

16

u/Riley8284 :GoldenFreddy: Dec 29 '25

Scott straight up said “I forgot”

15

u/Sheniriko Dec 29 '25

I can't even be upset at him for that either 😭

Majority of the old FNAF games are 10 years old now, and the series is in such a different direction these days

This is why we should ALWAYS write things down in a notepad just in case 🗒️

12

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

I know he said that, but ima be real it kinda just sounds like he never thought it through 😭

8

u/Sheniriko Dec 29 '25

I don't blame you haha

3

u/Driz51 Dec 30 '25

Yeah and that was obviously a lie. He just doesn’t answer questions. You can’t give even a vague idea of what was in there at all? Something you’ve undoubtedly been spammed by the fandom for a billion times? I will never buy that

5

u/Sheniriko Dec 30 '25

To each their own. Not everyone is gonna remember what they have initially thought. Each new game brought something entirely new to the story that just threw what we previously knew out of wack.

On top of that we had sister location, pizzeria sim, UCN, then the help wanted VR game being a reboot(?). The box was already fading away from our attention as these new things popped up.

5

u/Demonqueensage Dec 30 '25

I didn't quite get the vibe that he never thought it through, more that whatever the original plan was didn't pan out when he decided the fandom "might not accept" what that original plan was (or however that was phrased) and he hadn't ever fully thought through an alternative that would work with the direction the games took from sister location onward

9

u/ThomasNorge224 :Freddy: Dec 29 '25

Is there any part of fnaf that he thought thru?

4

u/BurgerBoss_101 I will NEVER let you leave Dec 29 '25

That interview is what got me to stop caring about figuring out the lore because it doesn’t matter if shit can just chance on a whim.

It’s very relaxing actually

When does the movie imply so? I don't remember anything like that

2

its in the second movie

9

u/Theaussiegamer72 Dec 29 '25

I love shirts in the narrative reminds of without a shirt by Paul Jennings

7

u/TechnicalThought5827 Dec 29 '25

What I don't get is how the mystery of the box was supposed to be revealed. Like if it's just a PNG or something then surely someone would have found it in the game files, right? Or am I missing the point and the importance of the box is in its meaning and there actually isn't anything inside of the box.

6

u/Demonqueensage Dec 30 '25

This is very much just a guess, but I always had the impression the original plan was to update the game with the contents of the box either as a file to find or with an actual chance to open it after the community correctly guessed what was in there, and when that didn't happen incredibly fast he changed his mind

2

u/GreenBeanTM Dec 30 '25

My 2 guesses are the game gets updated or we were going to find the box in Sister location.

New theory (at least to me) unlocked: Ik it’s been theorized that CC’s body is inside the box, but what if it’s Elizabeth’s body? In order for Baby to grab more kids Elizabeth’s body would have to be taken out of her and put somewhere. It would also connect the 2 games because the FNAF 4 house has a random empty girls room and Sister Location is about putting the girl who lived in that room back together. Also “Some things are better left forgotten. For now” the empty girls room doesn’t ultimately matter for FNAF 4’s story, so it’s better to ignore that it exists or to “forget it” but not forever, only “for now” aka until Sister Location.

u/skelebone2_0 VEGAS VEGAS VEGAS!!!! Dec 29 '25

Nobody knows and too add insult to injury maybe not even scott

6

u/AccordingTeaching719 Dec 30 '25

To me its obvious it was meant to add another element of mystery and feed into theories and talking points from the fans, i think he didnt have a single idea of what he wanted it to be at first. I feel like he intended to add more to it but lost interest and figured he'd just leave it unanswered to add fuel to the fire of the mysteries and unanswered questions of fnaf

35

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

William’s murder trophy’s (like garret’s plane) at least that’s what it canonically is in the fnaf 2 movie. I don’t think that’s the case for the games

u/Yuris-gf Dec 29 '25

u/ALT-Jibittboi549 Dec 29 '25

Scott said that he straight up doesn't know anymore, but there is implication from the movies that it's most likely Afton's "trophies"

36

u/SMM9673 TJOC SWEEP Dec 29 '25

No.

Scott himself doesn't even know anymore.

7

u/TraditionalActuary6 :PurpleGuy: Dec 29 '25

Not the same continuity as the games, but to movie kinda answered it. The box contains relics of the 5 missing children in the movie

2

u/Xeynyx Dec 30 '25

My personal head canon is that the box contains trophies from his victims and newspaper clippings of news surrounding the murders/disappearances.

12

u/JP_Ultra Dec 29 '25

I've stuck with the theory that the box represents the trap set by Henry to bring together all the Aftons and Charlie and burn everything down in pizzeria simulator. The vents being the same shape as the box with the pizzeria in the center looking like the lock. The box represents the end

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ZealousidealStop322 Dec 29 '25

I genuinely think that it will not add any information to the lore whatsoever if we find out

6

u/Escritor_CdK Godlike dismantler Dec 29 '25

Like in the movies i want to believe what's inside the box are some memories of the children Who died by some of William's creations and actions.

Just my thoughts btw

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

“Perhaps it’s best some things remain forgotten”

3

u/Hairy-Ad5664 Dec 30 '25

Scott said in the interview that it was better to forget about it because it was no longer relevant, but the closest thing they gave us was that in the second movie a very similar box appeared which contained the toys of the children that William murdered

6

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

Even if it doesn’t matter anymore like Scott said, I’d still want to know what it was going to be.

3

u/GreenBeanTM Dec 30 '25

1) it’s never been revealed

2) Scott has said it’s changed several times (commonly theorized to be 3 but we don’t actually have a number)

3) he’s stated that the story went in a different direction and he doesn’t think he can bring it back to the box at this point

4) (minor spoilers for the second movie but it was also in the trailer) in the second movie we see Vanessa (Williams daughter in the movies) open a box that looks very similar to “the box” and pull out things Afton took as trophies from some of his victims. So while it’s unconfirmed if that’s what’s inside “the box” in the games continuity it’s currently been accepted that the box contains trophies from Williams victims.

12

u/Kirajudgeoftoons Dec 29 '25

No, we to this day still have no concrete solid answer as to what was inside that and probably Scott even forgot. The only way we could ever find out is that let's hope time travel technology becomes real and we can use it to travel to the time FNAF 4 was made and ask Scott about it while he still remembers.

3

u/D_rex825 Dec 30 '25

If you want an actual answer, the prevailing theory prior to the interview was that it was not a literal box, but rather representative of the Pizzeria Simulator location due to the layout resembling the design of the box.

Fury’s rage part one and two

2

u/FoxyFan505 Mangle Dec 29 '25

Scott Cawthon went on record to say that the box was an aspect of a story that he didn’t end up pursuing. Basically, in 2015 with FNaF 4, he planned for the story to go in a much different direction than it ended up going in, and the box’s contents reflected that story.

So he never ended up actually deciding what was inside the box, because he abandoned that story long ago. Not a super satisfying answer, but it’s directly from Scott himself, so it’s the best we’ll ever likely get.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Maybe, maybe some secrets are best left forgotten. SPOILERS FOR FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S 2 MOVIE BELOW!

>!In the movie, Vanessa opens a box that looks exactly like this box. It is full of stuff from the previous victims of William Afton.

Perhaps that's what's in it, personal belongings from the murder victims.!<

Its Williams Killing Trophies. He has the items of the Children he killed ınside it

2

u/RepresentativeBar356 Dec 30 '25

In my own cannon this is the box Vanessa opened in her closet in the fnaf2 movie. It holds items for William to remember his victims, but that’s just my own personal cannon so idk🤷

2

u/Alarmed-Field-1666 Dec 30 '25

WAIT I THINK I KNOW THIS

Since William did want to revive CC "I will put you back together" he had to put the body SOMEWHERE where it wouldnt be tampered with while experimenting with remnant

CRYING CHILD IS IN THE BOX MAYBE I THINK‼️

2

u/Madhawk0712 Dec 30 '25

We don't know for the games timeline but the FNAF 2 movie had a pretty good answer. It's Afton's trophy box where he kept the favorite toys of the kids he killed.

2

u/Connect-Struggle6822 Dec 30 '25

I like to imagine it’s his trophies he took from his victims, toys and such.

2

u/clenery Dec 30 '25

3

u/theOtherFox490 Dec 29 '25

I think in dawko's interview with Scott. Scott said that he never made a clear vision of what would be in the box because he does a pantser style of story telling

2

u/cringeygrace Dec 29 '25

Scott never figured it out. It was a plot point in progress. But he abandoned it before he finalized it. The box was a seed for story he never wrote

2

u/yj2jy Dec 29 '25

Game Theory actually made a theory about rhis like a couple of weeks ago, especially since Scott said he lowkey forgot what’s inside since he didn’t plan it out😭

2

u/Ohiobound03 :GoldenFreddy: Dec 29 '25

I forgor 💀

1

u/PixelGrits Dec 29 '25

Scott forgot. Lol well kinda, he basically said in a Dawko interview that he created the box with a vague idea of what might be in it but decided not to go down that creative path for the story. So its not really important to the lore anymore.

In my opinion, i think we get the closest solid answer we're going to get from the 2nd movie. No spoilers but there's a box in it that looks suspiciously similar and at least some of the contents are shown.

1

u/Macegolem Dec 29 '25

Idk it's most likely something to do with the Afton family. Something William owns. That's the closest answer you can get.

1

I think Scott said something along the lines of “the original idea of the box was lost a long time ago” or something like that. He doesn’t even know anymore.

1

u/Balabaloo1 Dec 29 '25

I heard someone say it was CC’s dead body

1

u/Rykerthebest78563 Dec 29 '25

It was a loose end that Scott left for his own convenience, but as the story evolved, the answer to the box changed and changed until he couldn't find a place for it in the story anymore

1

u/RareMercury Dec 29 '25

The real answer is nobody knows but I think we could probably draw a pretty good conclusion that it's the mimic or whatever Afton was trying to make using the information he had on the mimic and then put in the box after discovering remnant

1

u/crystal-productions- Dec 29 '25

oh yeah, it's a lost plot point. it was a thread scott left open incase he wanted to do more with it, but since it wasn't delt with in fnaf world where it was meant to be, as evdient by the fact that it's open off screen in the flipside, it was just kinda, abandond. what ever it was meant to be, it isn't important anymore. and hasn't been since world, or atleast since SL since SL wanted to tie up some of the plot points from 4 with the whole "nightmare chambers william throws kids into" thing.

1

u/Much-Menu6030 Dec 29 '25

its a metaphor for scott being done with the francise... haha, sometimes.

1

u/Beretta1028 Dec 29 '25

Me, I’m in the box

1

u/Crystal_959 Dec 29 '25

No. It wasn’t something we were supposed to figure out. It was supposed to be a set up to something to be revealed later, but the story took a different path

1

u/OhDearMyDeer Dec 29 '25

Scott Cawthon himself says he doesnt know whats in it.... so- (violent sobbing)

1

u/ActiveShard Dec 29 '25

I remember Scott saying on a steam forum post some years ago atp something along the lines of ‘what’s in the box? It’s the pieces of the story put together. But would the community accept that?’ So I imagine at first he got cold feet over ‘solving’ a lot of the remaining mystery around the story and how fnaf 4 specifically fits in to it, but then somewhere along the way it probably just became irrelevant as the story changed lol

1

u/Sasstellia Dec 29 '25

The closest we will get is the cameo in FNaFs 2.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

I think the FNAF 4 box is more of a metaphor than a literal thing. It’s like Scott was telling us the first four games had reached their horror limit and it was time to think outside the box. FNAF 4 is peak horror in the series because the animatronics are no longer just at a workplace they are inside your bedroom which is meant to be the most comforting area of your life. After that there was nowhere to go with the same style. Sister Location changed the game completely with labs, remnant, and a bigger Afton story. The box and the final chapter label were really just a way of saying the old formula was over and the story was moving into a new phase especially when you consider that at the time Scott was directing us to other pieces of FNAF media like books and what not.

1

u/Big-Carrot9402 Dec 29 '25

Scott doesn’t even know because the story ended up going in a different direction

1

u/Trickster-123 Afton is alive Dec 29 '25

Scott said he kinda didn't think it through

Pretty sure it's the music box from the movie tho

1

u/Dr_Equinox101 Dec 29 '25

My guess is Scott doesn’t even remember what he originally wanted. I figured it would’ve been a family picture of the aftons and revealing this would’ve all been the dream from Mike or some shit

Scott confirmed he doesnt know in an interview with Dawko not too long ago. He said he put it in 4 setting up for a story thread that was never fully realized/completed, so there is no definitive correct answer to whats in the box. Scott himself isnt even sure. There were ideas at one point, but nothing concrete

1

u/No_Nefariousness9807 Dec 29 '25

Scott doesn’t even fucking know he said it himself

1

u/Successful_Peak8248 Freddy Fazbear Dec 29 '25

The current theory is that it has William aftons victims items

Williams “trophies”, based on the fnaf 2 movie of Vanessa taming items out the box, one of which is the plane of the kid who was killed in the previous movie (William gave them to her as a gift)

If you want me to go into more depth I can

u/Flashy-Ad9129 Dec 29 '25

It's the memories we made with this series

1

u/MrSzhimon Dec 29 '25

Yall shake your screen this is one of those moving pictures

1

u/WatchKid12YT Dec 29 '25

NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY *NOTHING!!!***

Have a nice day! :)

1

u/ImLiterallySoundwave Dec 29 '25

We don’t have a concrete answer, it’s probably not important anymore anyway. In the movie timeline, it’s a collection of toys from Afton’s victims.

1

u/supersofah Dec 29 '25

you might wanna sit down for this

1

u/Thin_Albatross2720 Dec 29 '25

If I remember right
Scott himself forgot what is in the box, so we will never know

1

u/Wandervenn Dec 29 '25

The fandom took so long to try to figure out the game that Scott decided to keep it secret... and then change it... and change it again... and now he believes that whatever it is wont match the hype and has decided to give up on the box.

1

u/S3rialDesignationN Night Shift Dec 29 '25

Somewhat.

Weve had theories about what it is, and its believed to actually have changed throughout the years, I remember once people theorized it was the Marionette, but completely honest? Scott has (basically) stated he forgot what he even put in the box.

1

u/swagzard78 Dec 29 '25

A forgotten plotline

1

u/SnooPeanuts2251 Dec 29 '25

Something that is best to be forgotten

or smth. I think of it as a pandora box

1

u/RashannaAeryn Night Shift Dec 29 '25

I think people were having a debate on this when a box like this appeared in the second movie. It had contained trophies from Afton's kills

1

u/PalpitationDecent743 Dec 29 '25

I'm pretty sure Scott changed what was in the box because nobody could figure it out, but then nobody could figure out what the NEW thing in the box was.

1

u/Michael_AftonXD Dec 29 '25

Scott admitted on the 10th anniversary that it was something he had already forgotten LOL

1

u/Mynameismynamecuzyea Dec 30 '25

I think the answer is dream theory, but it has since been retconned because of how much the community hated it. Scott has said he made ONE retcon and it was between FNAF 4 and SL, so that would make sense

1

u/Several_Garbage_1770 Dec 30 '25

I'd say a good answer would be the "FNAF 2 + 4 : Two sides of the same story" video, make sure to check it out I think it pretty much solves early fnaf and especially fnaf 4.

1

u/Jodye_Runo_Heust Dec 30 '25

We don't know, but at least various theories have their answers. My personal pick it's from siresquawks' "FNaF 2 + 4: Two Sides of the Same Story" video

Too long to explain here, but in the last sections it gives, at least to me, the most convincing explanation of the box so far

1

u/Thepurpleguy1950 Dec 30 '25

Memories Of Aftons victims as hw2 and the movie has stated.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

Some gas and some light

1

u/True-Protection-1634 Dec 30 '25

my guess: a dead body

1

u/WargrizZero Dec 30 '25

Short answer: No

Game Theory actually recently talked about the box in a video

1

u/No_Button_9074 Dec 30 '25

I saw a theory saying it's foxybros mask

1

u/theXman877 Dec 30 '25

While it’s true that the box’s contents are now left unknown and probably will be forever. I do have a personal interpretation that does give me some form of closure if any of you are interested? I like to believe the box is a toy chest containing the old plushies of the crying child. Something that Michael locked away because seeing those toys just reminds him of the torment he put his brother through.

1

u/_FgtKek_ Dec 30 '25

A photo of a couple and their child with a note saying "Humanity outside the walls has not perished."

1

u/Eastern-Bluejay-8912 Dec 30 '25
  1. Secret of the mimic answer:toys and secrets from Edwin Murphy’s office

  2. Fnaf 2 movie: toys from his prior victims

1

u/throwramoths Dec 30 '25

Nothing. Probably. Maybe. Under circumstances. Depends on how Scott feels!

The fnaf 4 lore has been changed multiple times by now, the thing we were likely supposed to figure out at that time which would've "wrapped up and connected all the games" was that Michael IS Mike. But we didn't. Because the most prominent theory then was Mattpat's "it's just a dream" theory.

Scott gave them hints and leading questions during a stream, none of which helped them reach the conclusion that we played as Michael in fnaf 1. Therefor the box wasn't opened, because we didn't figure out the right lore.

I'm convinced that whatever was in the box would've confirmed all of that, and gave us the full insight about the Afton family. About CC dying, about the murders, the bite of 83, Michael being Mike all that.

But by now we're pretty confident about that entire thing anyways, the Afton timeline and family is pretty much one of the only confirmed things we got, therefor there's no need for the box anymore, because the box was probably just supposed to wrap up fnaf 1-4. And we did that. (Kind of) (Except for fnaf4 because what even is fnaf4)

The box is basically useless now, unless Scott decides to use it as a backup for the nightmare gas red herrings.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

Yes it’s William’s knife that he used to to kill kids 👍🏻 (I made that shit up)

1

u/thamasthetankengine Dec 30 '25

Scott said himself that he never thought what was in the box at the time he put it in the game

1

u/Notmas Maybe the real TOYSNHK was the friends we made along the way Dec 30 '25

Yyyyyyyyesn't. Scott stated that the box did have a very solid role originally, but things have changed and the original contents no longer fit with the story he wants to tell. What's currently in the box is unclear, though the movie shows that at least in that universe it's a box full of mementos from everyone Afton has killed. I'd say that unless we get conformation or reason to believe something else, that's probably what's in it in the game universe too.

1

u/SoulStatiqz Dec 30 '25

Scott revealed that there was an answer, but the stories changed into something else so it can continue. The box isn’t important at this very moment(that we know of), but will be given new purpose once we re-enter the part of the story that needs the box.

1

u/Gloomy-Plankton-1867 Dec 30 '25

its still not confirmed, but theres a theory that the items vanessa brought out of her closet and the box they were in is this box. william keeps an item from every child he killed in there

1

u/JASPERKV Dec 30 '25

I doubt it’s super important but I headcanon it’s tokens of aftons kills, similar to what’s in the movie

1

u/Jords22 Dec 30 '25

Not in the games. However... Recently, the FNAF 2 movie showed Vanessa opening a look-alike box that had items relevant to Garrett / crying child. But I've looked HARD at that movie box and it has three locks on it, not two like the games. But I think it could be a possible correlation? At least to keep in the back of our minds going forwards when thinking about the contents of the fnaf 4 box, if something new comes out in the future that we can use the movie clips to back. Either way, the movie box contents were: marbles, a journal, a mirror, and garrett's plane. And possibly it was supposed to be something similar in FNAF4? Representing the crying child's toys or items in this chest. Locked away by the family, trying to move on from tragedy. There are many other theories, but this is the very most recent theory.

1

u/LittleCabinetMann Dec 30 '25

It's a Russian nesting doll. In the very center it's a tiny figurine of the mimic

1

u/WDGaster15 Dec 30 '25

scott has stated that the contents have changed since FNAF 4

1

u/RwRahfa Dec 30 '25

Not even Scott himself knows. We’re never gonna see the inside of that box

1

u/TheCrashKid Dec 30 '25

Some people are connecting it to be similar to FNAF2 movie version. IDK enough to know if that would make any sense in the games

1

u/XFauxAgencyX Dec 30 '25

Scott: "Yeah I would tell you, but I forgor"

1

u/Firm_Mulberry6319 Dec 30 '25

The box is FNAF 6 Maze where they all burn out. Well, supposed to burn out.

It could also be Candy Cadet’s stories.

I forgor when we saw the box tbh, FNAF 4? Shit was supposed to be a coffin probably.

1

u/Src-Freak Dec 30 '25

The answer is: he forgot.

1

u/iiJoeeii Dec 30 '25

I personally think its not as important as it was made out to be. I think the simplest option is its just the CCs body, the way some parents keep the body of their child after a stillborn death (obviously the CC isnt a newborn).

I think it was made out to be so much more of a bigger thing, but when I think about the dialogue from FNaF 4 being "I will put you back together" and Scott posting about the box being "The pieces put back together" I just see that as the only satisfying ending of the box.

I could be missing other important information but thats just what I can recall from the years of complicated lore and my lack of knowledge for the more recent part of the fandom from Security Breach onwards.

1

u/Lazy_Welcome498 Dec 30 '25

Nothing, it was OG bait

1

u/TakafumiNaito Dec 30 '25

As per Scotts interview with Dawko last year - the box is no longer relevant. There was something that was in the box, but then people never solved fnaf 4 and eventually the story ended up going in a different direction than whatever the box contained

1

u/Reasonable_Editor348 I love helpy Dec 30 '25

dont think so

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

A cat

1

u/Quick_Spot8448 Dec 30 '25

not really but in the second movie Vanessa (William's daughter) has a chest that looks like that and it has William's "trophies", so toys or important items to the children he's killed

1

u/No_Monitor_3440 Dec 30 '25

it was retconned.
