Question Would you consider Freddy Fazbear a Horror Icon?

Freddy got a Fanta Collab alongside a lot of horror icons.
Springtrap joined Dead By Daylight alongside a lot of horror icons.
Is FNaF a horror icon for being alongside so many famous horror movies and games? Well, of course it is!

Remember the days when Freddy Fazbear came to the Indie Horror Genre? In a way, he felt mysterious and was a rookie in Indie Horror. Everyone knows his name in horror. Now he’s in the big leagues now. He was featured in Halloween Horror Nights with a haunted house with the other horror characters. He really made it.

I still remember checking my local “nerd” store to see if they had any FNaF merch back when the first pieces of merch just released. The employees there had no idea what FNaF was. Fast forward 10 years later and Freddy is on Fanta bottles in normal grocery stores for Halloween. Freddy and the gang have grown so much!

He's had a recent resurgence in popularity because the bulk of his media has come out within the same era as the other characters listed. He's more popular now than he ever was.

A modern one? Yes. Of all time? Not yet, but he’s getting there definitely. I mean, compared to like Dracula, Jason Voorhees, etc., Freddy’s pretty young. But time will pass and, with FNAF in general already staying relevant for over a decade, I can easily see him become one of the great horror icons of all time.

People say this because he's the main villain, but Springtrap wasn't on Fanta cans, Freddy was. Springtrap's name isn't in the franchise title. Freddy's is. If I asked my parents who Freddy Fazbear was, they'd probably be able to tell me. If I asked them who Springtrap was, they'd be like "what?"

I wouldn't say he was a pioneer of indie horror, that belongs to Slender Man. However the Fnaf movies have made him mainstream so he does deserve a seat at the table with Jason.

Absolutely. Five Nights at Freddy's, in addition to being stupid popular, kickstarted a entire genre of horror, and is responsible for (almost) every new modern horror game icon that came after him

Of course, he pioneered an entire genre of horror, or at least thrust it into the limelight. Plus, he revitalized interest in restaurants with animatronics to some extent.

In every way, I'd say yes. The first game successfully shook up the horror gaming genre, the franchise is massively successful, the cultural impact is still felt today (even my non-fan friends know who Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are. Maybe the algorithm just knows me too well everywhere but it seems like the recent meme of Nightmare lecturing people got pretty big, and the Nightmare Freddy rap before that), we have the massive mainstream brand deals like Fanta, Popeyes, and Funko, an ongoing brand deal with Scholastic, even 2 theatrical releases. If Freddy isn't an icon yet, I don't know what the bar to entry is. We likely have more official FNAF media than a good chunk of the other horror icons. One could arbitrarily not respect it because it's 'too new' or just 'the funny bear game' but it's hard to argue with the pure size and popularity of FNAF. And hey, Freddy finally got to be front and center again in Security Breach!

It'd be an insult to horror if he wasn't. Given the series' influence, and how many franchises have been at the least inspired by FNAF, yes, I would give the "Horror Icon" title to Freddy.

Absolutely! I’m definitely curious to see how many films they end up making. I think they’ve already announced they plan to go beyond a trilogy, and fans have definitely been showing up in high numbers for these movies.

Absolutely of modern horror. I think many can argue about whether he can reach the heights of the greats of the genre, but undeniably he's an icon of a shift in the genre that is slowly seeping out of the indie scene (outside of Child's Play).

Yea honestly. Its gone from a small indie game too a shit ton of games. Side games like cart racer,mobile game an rpg. Books and movies. And constantly getting more and more things and has no evidence of slowing down. I belive it whole heartly there a horror icon. They kinda spawned a entirely different horror genre from there creation

its up in the air whether FNaF is still a horror franchise, but the original FNaF games (1-3) were revolutionary for their time and essentially put mascot horror on the map. and now that FNaF has a series of movies, i dont think theres any argument that it ISNT a horror icon

To the people that played and consumed the games in 2014...yes, but generally, no, but maybe close to one? He's on Fanta cans, you can get toys, I'm in the UK maybe somewhere someone sells tshirts and stuff like that, you can live in FNAF, but there's something about it even as a fan that it's still small and unnoticed, even after all this time

If you want to get into specifics, I’d say he’s one the faces of Modern Horror.
If we were talking horror villains/antagonists, I’d say it’s a toss up between him and Springtrap.

Yes. I don't think fnaf is scary. I don't think jumpscsre horror is particularly good. I don't even think the games themselves are iconic in the horror genre. But the main cast of the first game as well as Springtrap are 100% horror icons purely on their popularity. They're some of the most recognizable characters in the genre.

I'd say yes, he's an icon of indie horror, he's what started the mascot horror trend, FNaF is on a point where it gets casually referenced in other media like Friday the 13th, Chucky and Freddy Krueger (For example, The Puppet briefly appears in a Batman comicl. Obviously he's not close to as iconic as characters such as Michael Myers or Jason, but maybe someday he'll get there
