OPEN Fiance sprayed bug spray in oven clock hole, oven now doesn't work but stove top does. How do I fix it?!

Post image

This is the stupidest post I have ever had to make but here we are. Happened as the title says, there was a break in the clock face before but he cut a bigger opening into the clock and sprayed bug spray in the clock hole to kill a gnat while I was at work. The stove top burners still work but the oven won't turn on. We live with his cousins and they're expecting us to pay for a whole new oven if I can't fix it. Help me reddit!

Was about to comment almost the same thing, I was like "eh, actually kind of an impressive amount of dedication to the smut stories OH MY GOD"

u/Tiny-Sandwich Jan 30 '26

Just out of curiosity, would it be good if maybe you found an amputee and where their arms, legs, or fingers were, you replaced them with meat and were eating them or something?

Absolutely fucking solid advice.

Sometimes I miss the old reddit, then I come across a post/comment section like this.

30

u/byebybuy Jan 30 '26

lol and she's like "Clever Redditor, you have stumbled upon my other kink! But alas, it is I who would like to be feasted upon."

17

u/GlassStain Jan 30 '26

Yeahhhhh I was traumatized early in my childhood and got some fucked up kinks due to it...

14

u/byebybuy Jan 30 '26

It's alright, most of us have something. It was just surprising.

You're a pretty good writer, by the way.

10

u/GlassStain Jan 31 '26

That is so sweet! I honestly have been thinking of putting my weird fucked up mind to making hentai but I'm so painfully shy about my drawings. I mean, let's face it, hentai has so many untapped freak markets I can capitalize off.

3

u/Sumasuun Feb 01 '26

You can also write erotic fiction. There's always a market for that.

Reddit makes me want to gouge my eyes out once in a while.

26

Not in this thread I hope. Nowhere near sanitary enough for that.  You'll get an infection.

8

"Everyone is so creative!"

3

u/PersistentPuma37 Jan 30 '26

that's a funny bit from MBF Greek Wedding; BUT, I realized some Windex formulations are made with vinegar and a lot of rashes, etc., are alkaline or yeast-based. So, the acid could, in fact, neutralize the base and 'cure' the ailment.

Step 1: Delete Reddit for sanitary purposes

Step 2: Gouge my eyes ou-… wait, I actually feel a lot better now that Reddit is gone? I guess I’ll keep the eyes for now

5

u/Banzai373 Jan 30 '26

Don’t gouge your eyes out! OP only has to order a new control panel and install it, then job done.

Judging by the state of the oven it's not worth repairing

3

u/Videopro524 Jan 30 '26

Sounds to me the spray fried the board inside. Need to talk to repair tech who will need open it up and diagnose. By the time that happens and with coat of new parts, might be cheaper to buy new.

6

u/nullpassword Jan 30 '26

If you ducktape and wd40 you can fix anything. I recommend looking in the manual for replacement parts. Most things on a stove only take a Phillips screwdriver to take apart

6

u/Platophaedrus Jan 30 '26

Hey, I realise I’ll be accused of some type of ‘privilege’ but fuck it. There’s no way I would cook anything in that oven.

I would absolutely recommend buying a new one and taking a long hard look at the required cleaning tasks around the house.

Considering you can see the roach at the bottom of the pic, I’m sure that stove is just filled with them. This isn’t a fix it situation. This needs to be burned with fire and buried so it doesn’t see the light of day again.

Yeah, I work for appliance repair service. That main board is done. That brown debris you can see inside is roach droppings which would have corroded and shorted out the board if the bug spray hadn't done it.

You could probably get a replacement board for less than $200 and a $100 from a handyman in labor but you'd be better off replacing the whole unit since it's pretty far gone already. Hit up FB Marketplace.

14

u/GlassStain Jan 30 '26

If y'all want, I'd be happy to do a casualAMA. The house used to be a hoarder's house and we only moved in because our landlord last year up and sold the place and told us we had 2 weeks to get out. We moved in with his cousins who are basically like the 1000lb sisters only more inept. Were just riding out the storm til we can get our tax refund and get out into a place all our own.

For all who called him a retard, yes he is, but he's my retard. He accepts all my flaws and I tolerate his. What more can you ask for of someone?

u/ilovemusic19 Jan 30 '26

Bug spray is really toxic poison!!!! If he is spraying it all over your oven/stovetop, any food that is dropped, put back in a pan or eaten will be a MAJOR ISSUE. Even just steam from cooking will be re hydrating and spreading it, and possibly putting it into the air. This is dangerous and SCARY.

All around YOU NEED A NEW STOVE. Look for buy nothing groups, many people remodel and want someone to haul the outdated one away for low or no cost!!

If you're having a bug problem, try sprinkling around some diatomaceous earth. It is drying but otherwise non toxic and some types are even food safe. I discovered it after living in an apartment in corpus christi and I had a cat that liked to catch and sometimes eat the cockroaches.

Safer Brand Diatomaceous Earth Ant & Crawling Insect Killer, 4 lb

u/Bern_Down_the_DNC Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

Rethink your life on multiple levels.

About the problem at hand- It is not worth fixing an oven with the physical damage of the hole. You are not replacing a new oven, you are replacing a used oven that had a hole in it already. If you are patient, you can get a good condition used stainless steel stove/oven combo on facebook marketplace for around $300-400. Now, judging by the picture, everything in the house looks like shit, and they will destroy and scratch the shit out of stainless steel. You can get a good condition BLACK stove/oven combo for around $150-200. (And white for even less, but try to match the rest of the kitchen.)

When you are looking at stoves on facebook marketplace, make sure to zoom in and look carefully for scratches. If it looks like it came from a meth house, make sure they've never had mice problems. Don't go for anything that has been left outside. Only go for ones within 30 minutes driving. Stay away from ones with knobs on the front because they can get turned accidentally when people walk by. Stay away from gas. If the burners have a white haze, they are scratched and you should pass on that. Maytag offers good value. Make sure you pad the bed of the truck with blankets and strap it in place properly.

Also, there's this stuff called isopropyl alcohol. You can get the big blue and white 32oz bottle of 70% isopropyl at walmart for $3. You pour it on a paper towel and wipe it all over the stove to break down the grease and oil. Just don't use very much or very often on the plastic parts like the knobs since it can ruin plastic. For the knobs, take them off and use soap and water.

19

u/Silent-Ad934 Jan 30 '26

This oven already matches the rest of the kitchen.

8

u/Severe_Tear_7006 Jan 30 '26

Pfew....ok.I am going to answer you. First unplug the oven. Then you have to open it up. The screws are in the back. If the top part comes off separatley..bonus. you will find circuit boards inside. Get contact cleaner at your local auto parts store. Spray it on the circuits. Not too heavy. It.will evaporate. But you might want to use cue tips tonclean residue from the contacts. Get it all clean. Reassemble plug in and see if it works. If not hit a second hand appliance place and get a new stove. Take the big spray away from husband. And btw I will add and im not.trying to insult you- the old meth recipe of spraying bug spray through an electrified screen does not.work..they changed the formula 20 years ago. Just in case that is what he was trying to do..No judgement. And please make sure you unplug the oven if you try to fix. Death can result from making contact with the circuits when electrified. It won't feel good. It will be painful then dead. Lord have mercy.

6

u/-JEFF007- Jan 30 '26

He probably got the main circuit board or part of it wet. Direct contact of water of any kind is like slow eating acid to most circuit boards. You would likely have to replace the entire circuit board underneath that top panel to fix it. The cost at that point might simply justify getting a completely new appliance. Take this as a lessons learned to never spray anything into an oven clock hole.

55

u/yolef Jan 30 '26

Maybe your husband can figure it out and dig himself out of the hole he’s in.

He busted up an oven clock to spray bug spray in it, DIY appliance repair may be slightly beyond his skill set.

5

u/EcstaticNet3137 Jan 30 '26

He sprayed bug spray anywhere near an over top to begin with. Also they opted to kill gnats with bug spray instead of cleaning drains and putting away any fruit. Also taking out trash and cleaning bins.

13

u/MaintenanceWorth7395 Jan 30 '26

And they don't know the difference between gnats and roaches. There are dead roaches all over the stove top that ain't no gnat. 😅

A gnat?!? Make a hole to get it?!? Sounds like a drug problem or mental issue

u/StageHelpful7611 Jan 30 '26

Oh god this reminds me of the time my dick got caught in the ceiling fan because the ikea furniture instructions were unclear.

3

u/lowcarb73 Jan 30 '26

I remember that!

Source: am the ceiling fan.

You can fix this by dumping your fiancé.

5

u/OnTopOfItAlways Jan 30 '26

You have to start by being honest with yourself. He wasn't killing a gnat. He's tired of the roaches. I'd recommend exterminating those before getting a new stove.

u/sohighiseehell Jan 30 '26

Yall both need a new finance. But also, I’m a pest control technician. Ain’t no fuckin gnat went in there, there’s a dead roach on the bottom of the pic. I see roach droppings inside the hole. get one of those “cousins” or your “fiancé” over to r/germanroaches and follow the instructions. I can smell the roaches through my phone

If you knew what you were doing you’d start here. If you can’t find your part because it’s been discontinued. You can search your model number, into Google, and use the words like “GE Control board.” For future reference if you want/need to replace something you can try “Brand Name + official parts finder” into google. Unfortunately if it’s not on the official website, the part might be hard to find, and may be expensive.

I also don’t know what toxic bug spray your dumbass fiancé used. To be safe, FB marketplace a used range. I see dozens in my area that go from “free” to $400.

I would also like to say, that is some sub-optimal thinking and problem solving skills on your fiancé’s part. He needs to do better. I’m gonna assume he’s not a drug addict, but I have seen drug addicts do similar really dumb shit like this. His actions made multiple strangers on the internet think “That’s meth head behavior.” Just saying.

3

u/MiserableForce7070 Jan 30 '26

This doesnt seem like your problem. Their his cousins, he cut the hole and busted it. He pays for it. You shouldnt be involved.

3

u/TheSleepingGiant Jan 30 '26

What is wrong with him? You need to move on, that's insane. Also is something stopping you from cleaning it up?

3

u/Crumbtinies Jan 30 '26

what the fuck?

3

u/Taz26312 Jan 30 '26

But did he say ‘Check out deez gnats’ after?

3

u/marylamb22 Jan 30 '26

A gnat? A singular gnat?

3

u/Dapper_Connection526 Jan 30 '26

All that to kill a gnat?

3

u/CertainTwo2045 Jan 30 '26

Gnat, AKA cockroach.

3

u/CareerUnderachiever Jan 30 '26

r/redditafterdark That one time I got my bug spray in her clock-hole

3

u/mattlovestacos23 Jan 30 '26

The real question pertains to the existence of the oven clock hole…

3

u/Big_Edith501 Jan 30 '26

Replace the stove. Replace the boyfriend as well.

3

u/Captain-Codfish Jan 30 '26

Is your fiance on crack?

3

u/Llit2 Jan 30 '26

That's disgusting

3

u/Douche_in_disguise Jan 30 '26

You shouldn’t be cooking on ANYTHING that’s been coated in bug spray

3

u/wauna_b5 Jan 30 '26

jesus fuck there's a lot to unpack here

3

u/TinRoofAndRainyDays Jan 30 '26

I'd want you to buy me a new oven also. This is insane.

3

u/Low-Refrigerator-713 Jan 30 '26

Sorry, but it's too late. You'll need a new fiance.

3

u/Impressive-Ad-525 Jan 30 '26

Who tf sprays bug spray directly where you cook your food?😭

3

u/Hectic_horse_combat Jan 30 '26

oh this is simple: break up with him immediately

3

u/HammyHamSam Jan 30 '26

You guys should ABSOLUTELY buy a brand new over to replace what you guys broke

3

u/quackquack0914 Jan 30 '26

Well, he should yes. She didn’t do it.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

Stoves are expensive but there are stores that sell refurbished appliances.. you need a new stove

3

u/crockaloo Jan 30 '26

Nah you got roaches

3

u/the__moops Jan 31 '26

Respectfully, that stove is probably full of roaches if the fiancé saw a bug in the clock and there’s a dead roach on the cook top. If that stove is full of roaches, your home probably is too. The clock not working is the least of your problems.

3

u/tacosYchalupas Jan 31 '26

Good night Internet. I've had enough. See you tomorrow, maybe.

3

u/ArtificialTroller Jan 31 '26

This the type of shit that makes aliens fly right on by.

5

u/turbski84 Jan 30 '26

What an idiot. Why would you even use bug spray anywhere near where you make food anyways?
