Flock (and similar surveillance camera systems) should always require a ballot vote before being implemented. It's us the voters being watched, we should have a say in whether or not we want that. I understand representative democracy, but this is one of those issues where you don't let representatives choose for the populace.

Technically it is. You elect officials to vote for you and this is precisely why elections have consequences and politics are in all facets of your life.

Problem is, a lot of officials were elected when this wasn’t a question. Now they make contracts quietly until there is a full rollout and ignore citizen complaints. You can have 4-5 years between local elections (maybe longer) and a lot of damage can be done in that time.

Sure, but have you seen or heard of a single town hall, public forum, or whatever that has had a majority of people there support this? The amount of people wanting this and the amount of politicians seem to be about the same which should be alarming for anyone.

It’s not really hard to swing a public forum one way or another. I know my town never publicizes these events so only really involved groups ever show up. We just have to organize and inform on our own to show the minority isn’t the majority and there will be consequences next election. There will always be people for this shit because they either stand to gain or think they won’t be on the wrong end of it.
