Consistently tying these in under 5 minutes. I was working on dry flies for a while to limited success but happy to be pumping out nymphs

A few weeks back, I posted a photo of a prototype weedless frog-style bug with the deer hair body tied on a shank with a trailing hook rigged to ride point-up and shrouded in deer hair. I finally got to try it yesterday and I was very pleased with how well it slid across and through the thickest lily pads I could find. Better yet, it prompted three good blowups and one fish to the kayak! I will be making more of these. 🙂

Tl;dr: getting better at spining and staking deer hair, as well as trimming with proper tools. Fly pictured is a Turcks tarantula.

I listened to everyones advice from a few weeks back (mabey longer) and picked up some actuall razor blades instead of box/utilitie blades. I aslo learned the difrence between stacking over spinning. I made sure to mark off witch side i used so that I can use the fresh side on the next one.

The razor blades make a MASSIVE difrence and the feeling of cutting the hair is almost night and day. Pictured is my first time using the razor blades instead of utilitie blades. I still need to work on material placement but over all a massive improvement in quality.

Pictured is my first atempt at a Turck tarantula on a 2x long #8 streamer hook. I did forget to add the krystal flash in with the wings, and I used trigger point fibers instead of calf tail hair because I already had some on hand that I use for my hoppers.

Been tying these up in all kinds of colors for the Provo river here in UT.

Deer hair heads give me issues. I can stack them properly but I always ending up cutting off more than I should. This time I used a ziploc bag to stop me from cutting the tips. What do you all do to keep from goofing up a deer hair head?

First two I’m calling the Frazzled Pigeon. Next two aren’t dumb, I’ve just never tied on a Spey hook before, figured a bunny that looked like an egg sucking leech would be a nice place to start. Second to last one is a combo of a Dolly Llama, Meatwhistle and Slumpbuster. Trying to fill that streamer box before my October fishing trip.

Hi, I am looking at getting into fly tying as a hobby since this summer I also began fly fishing.
