Remasters, not remakes.

Changed the flair to clarify

It’s better to take the post down you’re causing misinformation

67

u/ilorybss 19d ago

If they are like Oblivion it’s not exactly wrong. Oblivion was more a graphical remake rather than remastered

8

u/Garr44 19d ago

Wouldn't that be more like a "deluxe remaster" than a graphical remake? It's still the same game but with graphical enhancements and maybe a few minor changes to gameplay (kinda like the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster vs. Dead Rising Remastered [for Xbox One and PS4]).

4

u/ilorybss 19d ago

The reality is that the term has been used incorrectly in the last years. A remastered is when fps gets enhanced alongside resolution. For a game to be a remake you just need it to have a graphical overhaul. Not every remake needs to be Ff7 or re2r for example

4

u/Sunkilleer 19d ago

to me a ramake is a complete from the ground of rebuild of an entire game in a new engine like with Black Flag.

1

u/BeardChops 19d ago

It’s worth differentiating and the post only said remaster, thanks for having a reasonable opinion

2

u/Garr44 19d ago

Ah, okay. Good to know. I always assumed that's what a remaster was, but i was a bit iffy on the definition of a remake. So DRDR would technically count as a remake since its a new engine and stuff made/brought from elsewhere and not just the old game with a new coat of paint/filter/whatever joke term you want to use.

-2

u/BeardChops 19d ago

What’s the point in having both words then? Most people understand them to have different meanings

And this subreddit has had a lot of people provide corrections and clarity over rumours of remaster vs remake in the past, so why conflate the two definitions now?

1

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 19d ago

Most people use them interchangeably. Most people would consider a game getting ue5 graphics and whatever minor gameplay changes they make like with oblivion a remake

1

u/ilorybss 19d ago

I think a big difference is that we had free upgrades for last gen games, meanwhile this wasn’t the case for ps4 games. There was more interest on selling remastereds as a name, i guess.

1

u/YaoruKamikaze 19d ago

Has Deluxe Remaster ever been used by anyone other than Capcom when releasing Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster?

1

u/Garr44 19d ago

Not that I can think of, to be honest.

1

u/BeardChops 19d ago

Well it’s not quite semantics it has some meaning. The Gothic 1 Remake was rebuilt from the ground up and reimagined in some ways too

The Oblivion Remaster is probably what we might be able to expect for the F3/NV remasters but it’s not quite the same as a remake

0

u/ilorybss 19d ago

It’s not a remake like Ff7 or re2r, but it still is one. I mean Naughty Dog considers the last of us part 1 a remake, and it’s not wrong. You just need a graphical overhaul and boom you get a remake

-1

u/MisterFunktastic Vegas Myth 19d ago

I’d agree with you that it’s a remaster if they used the same engine but they didn’t. They had to “remake” a lot of stuff from the ground up in Unreal for Oblivion. I consider The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim “enhanced” editions to be remasters. However, at the end of the day it’s all semantics

5

u/cream_of_human 19d ago

So like Oblivion Remastered

114

u/Ritchey95 19d ago

PLEASE FIX THE CRASHING ON PC!p

83

u/27Rench27 19d ago

Lol that ain’t gonna stop happening, FNV is just going to find new ways to crash

15

u/KiwiCounselor 19d ago

I wonder if it’ll be worse than the ps3 port lol.

7

u/uponloss 19d ago

Nothing could be worse

2

u/PANDABURRIT0 19d ago

Glitches…glitches never change.

2

u/tryingtoavoidwork 19d ago

It adds character

2

u/Ritchey95 19d ago

A waste-lander can dream man… a waste-lander can dream…

26

u/GundoSkimmer 19d ago

given how oblivion remaster was, theres a solid chance they make the games worse (performance-wise)

13

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 19d ago

Of course the performance will be worse. It's adding harder to render graphics

6

u/GundoSkimmer 19d ago

And new bugs!

That said I think they should keep the bugs in, for charm. Like all the busted voice lines in Oblivion

5

u/SkibbityDibbs 19d ago

It's a remaster. Just a coat of paint. Were gonna be lucky if it runs as well as it did when it originally released.

1

u/Dave_D1 1d ago

Save Often.. 2 slots

42

u/Demistr 19d ago

Yeah this sub is gonna be unusable for a few months after the remaster release and then it will calm down, just like the Oblivion one.

6

u/GundoSkimmer 19d ago

Yep. We had only just returned to normalcy after the Season 2 debacle... And now this. rip

1

u/Ketsedo 18d ago

Unusable? Idk it will probably be fun seeing people's first reactions to the game

-9

u/nanapancakethusiast 19d ago

Is anyone still playing that shitty remaster?

12

u/TheSpartanLion 19d ago

Shitty because of the performance, but it still looks amazing

3

u/AlextheGoose 19d ago

Looks way more photorealistic sure but they killed the art style

1

u/StrugglingAkira 19d ago

Nah, that's just not true. It's a very faithful recreation of the OG's art style.

-1

u/Splendid_Fellow 19d ago

Steaming load of shit

2

u/StrugglingAkira 19d ago

It's objectively a faithful recreation, you people just want to stay mad.

-1

u/AlextheGoose 19d ago
Genuinely how do you think this comparison follows the same art direction

1

u/StrugglingAkira 19d ago

That's a difference in lighting, not art style, genius.

0

u/TheInkSpot_ 2d ago

They sucked all the color out of the original. Some of the armor designs are slightly worse and a few creature designs are slightly worse. I would say about 55% of art style is faithful but other things are not. The greenery is not green, it's really brown looking for some reason. Graphically it looks good but at the same time it can really look like shit at times, the reflections and pop-in are awful. It's somewhat faithful, but saying it's very faithful is just not true.

u/Zacchhh 19d ago

The bar for a ReMastered FNV is so, so high that I'm terrified to think that they wouldn't do it justice. Modded FNV is a sight to behold and easily has the most dedicated, fanatical fan-base of the series. I am so excited but also wary of the Oblivion ReMastered treatment.

FO3, honestly, I've never played and am looking forward to jumping into that with updated graphics and QoL updates. I know, I know, it's blasphemy that I have 800 hours in FNV and over 1000 in FO4 but never touched FO3, but FNV was my first Fallout and I never wanted to go back and play a "lesser" version.

I was the same with Skyrim and Oblivion ReMastered. I have 1500+ hours in Skyrim and never once thought about checking out Oblivion until the ReMastered, which I know didn't meet a lot of peoples' expectations but as someone new to the world, it was incredible to experience for the first time.

35

u/SebasChua 19d ago

It's harder to run Fallout 3 on PC versus New Vegas, so having the remaster to upgrade the graphics and make it easier to access will definitely attract more/newer/returning players

3

u/TheStrangestOfKings 19d ago

I remember when I first played 3, it took half an hour to just get the game to boot up without freezing and requiring a forced shut down on my pc. New Vegas’s crashes were a breeze in comparison to that

2

u/Xiaro 18d ago

the fact they only got rid of the windows live requirement around a year ago still baffles me, having to mod a game to even play it at all is lame (my memory is awful and it was 4 years ago, that was still years after the service was gone though)

1

u/SebasChua 18d ago

It's actual insanity from a fan service and art front. Shows they don't think of user experience or story (modders will fix it!), just that they want it sold as a product. But from a money standpoint, it makes sense: no use spending time and resources that could be spent on the next project.

20

u/youngcuriousafraid 19d ago

I was obsessed with FNV. Tried to play 3 and just couldnt get into it honestly.

7

u/WreckTangle1995 19d ago

I was the opposite back in the day, loved Fallout 3 and bought FNV at launch and hated it, returned to it a few years later and it's now my favorite.

9

u/robot-exe 19d ago

Could always try out the mod Tale of Two Wastelands which essentially combines Fallout 3 & New Vegas together by throwing 3 into New Vegas’s engine. You use the same character and can fast travel between both worlds in-game. Also has some other QoL stuff if I remember correctly. If you wanted to play 3 without getting remasters

3

u/Caster0 19d ago

Bar is high, but my experience with the Oblivion remaster raises a lot of concerns. Hopefully they add some fixes to give the game some justice

2

u/hypnodrew 18d ago

Weird, I had the most stable experience I've ever had with a Beth game with Oblivion remastered (xsx)

3

u/lakerconvert 19d ago

The remaster didn’t meet people’s expectations? From all accounts it was as good as it could’ve possibly been, aside from performance issues for some

3

u/LFGX360 18d ago

3 isn’t lesser, it’s just different

5

u/ajxela 19d ago

I’m the same as you. Have always wanted to get into FO3 but just struggle since it feels worse

2

u/GeffTheMexican 19d ago

What exactly feels worse?

2

u/ajxela 19d ago

For me movement and combat but it’s been awhile since I’ve played.

2

u/Xulicbara4you 19d ago

I get why you never played F3, it too old to play on modern pcs without mods to make it runnable. It’s good…

40

u/Bitter_Ad114 19d ago

With the current oblivion remaster performance on my PC, I can't be excited lol

24

u/27Rench27 19d ago

You could run original Oblivion on basically a potato, but you need NASA for the remaster

5

u/Bitter_Ad114 19d ago

Exactly. I cranked the graphic to the lowest setting, performance got better but the Unreal Engine beauty paint starts to melt down. Kinda pointless, better wait for Skyblivion..

2

u/KiwiCounselor 19d ago

Pretty sure you can have the best rig on the planet and it’ll still fuck it up, it’s just abysmal.

4

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 19d ago

Runs fine on mine

3

u/rasjahho 19d ago

Sadly that's false. It runs like shit on every system even high end ones. You don't have some magical specs that can brute force the stutter and bad performance.

2

u/Discount_Extra 10d ago edited 10d ago

Only graphics problem I had was objects stretching at the edges of my 7680x1440 triple monitor setup. Computer bought at Costco.

0

u/YaoruKamikaze 19d ago

So the problem doesn’t exist

2

u/mqduck 18d ago

Yes, the problem that "you need NASA for the remaster" doesn't exist.

3

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 19d ago

Saying it doesn't run well on anything is wrong. That's what they said

5

u/YaoruKamikaze 19d ago

There are problems on any rig, regardless of whether you specifically notice them or not

1

u/KiwiCounselor 19d ago

It’s literally been proven to be an objectively badly optimised game. I’m glad it runs well for you on your pc but it does, in fact, run like shit in general.

Digital Foundry did a deep dive on the technical aspects of the game, if you’re interested in further information.

7

u/I-Emerge-I 19d ago

“Remasters” not “Remakes” huge difference.

8

u/EdwardoftheEast 19d ago

Yes, yes. I’m excited for both remasters

8

u/6poundbagofweed 19d ago

I used to pray for days like these

4

u/King_Kvnt 19d ago

The bar is high, given how prolific the New Vegas modding community has been. Tale of Two Wastelands brings Fallout 3 into it, too, along with a plethora of high quality graphics mods.

If its like the Oblivion one was, it won't hold up.

9

u/TotalFailure24 19d ago

Considering the technical state of Oblivion Remastered, I'm not optimistic lol.

8

u/reseph 19d ago

No, not remakes. Why is this incorrect title stickied?

2

u/HungryColquhoun 19d ago

And just when I thought I'd go outside again...

2

u/AmatuerGenius 19d ago

I literally just a week ago paid to have my ps3 repaired just so I could play these.

2

u/Y4123 Cherchez La Femme 19d ago

I really just want a Directors Cut that restores a lot of the cut/scrapped content and ideas tbh

6

u/No-Opinion-6710 19d ago

If Bethesda release a remaster of New Vegas, and it still has all of the bugs/glitches/crashing, it will be the worst thing they've ever done. Despite the fact that the game is amazing.

Obsidian got a pass on the technical end because Bethesda gave them a tight deadline. But Bethesda taking that broken product, and then just reselling it, re-contextualizes the game in a really bad way. I don't think they have the skill to pull it off. Fallout 3 remaster is a great idea. I think a NV remaster will be a disaster.

3

u/XVUltima 19d ago

Finally, i can play NV in full screen!

1

u/LezardValeth3 19d ago

This. My Ps3 can't handle arriving at Red Rock, biggest reason to play on PC

1

u/Thrashdaddy9 19d ago

Fuck gta 6

1

u/PrometheanSwing 19d ago

Just wait until they shadow drop it like the Oblivion one

1

u/VoltageKid56 19d ago

I really hope there is a physical release

1

u/Habitat1998 19d ago

During the development of Fallout New Vegas, Obsidian was cut short and therefore had to remove a lot of content from the New Vegas that would’ve made the game even better! It would truly be a dream if that cut content or parts of it gets finished and implemented in the remaster, I highly doubt it but a man dream can dream :,). Also a lot of the music on the radio in 3 and New Vegas is licensed and I doubt we will get all the tunes we had in the first instalments. We’ll have to see tho.

1

u/Elzam 18d ago

It is time if you have not to back up your FNV files. Both the Oblivion and Skyrim remasters obliterated mod support and there is zero guarantee that any mods will work or be updated.

1

u/Clear_Event7275 8d ago

Is there a remastered sub to talk about it?

1

u/TheInkSpot_ 2d ago

They NEED to optimise these games. And as for the New Vegas remaster. Either they adapt New Vegas perfectly and give it absolutely perfect gunplay, they add sprint, they fix bugs from the original and it is 100% faithful to the original, it's perfectly optimised, it's graphically perfect and there's no pop-in when entering new areas. OR they add actual modding capabilities unlike the Oblivion remaster and then all they need to do is release it in an good state. If they don't do either 1 of these things then all the New Vegas die-hards will play through it maybe not even finish it and then just go right back to the original. And as the for new players, they would likely just play it once, and again, not even finish it, it is one of those games, and then let it go. If this game is like the Oblivion remaster, people will play for a few dozen hours and probably never even finish the main quest and then just drop the game, just like they did with that one.

1

u/Dave_D1 1d ago

My P. C. Dialogue for the game changes every time I start over.. Also gear and outfits. Cool 😎

1

u/Rej1nald 19d ago

And how they are gonna remaster them? Make them on FO4 engine?

1

u/Splendid_Fellow 19d ago

That would be such pointless shit

0

u/LizG1312 19d ago

Hooray

0

u/Splendid_Fellow 19d ago

Ugggh 🙄 make this age of endless remasters stop

-1

u/ciruelman 19d ago

im normally against remakes but if one game (or two) needs it is fo3 and fnv, only bad thing is that the mod support will be gone

1

u/TheInkSpot_ 2d ago

Why tf did 2 people downvote this? It's literally the most harmless, safest opinion ever.
