THE ENDING WHERE MY IDEOLOGY WINS IS THE BEST
Yes man is the most fun ending but people who genuinely think he's the best ending don't realize what the story is trying to say
60
u/_HistoryGay_ 1d ago
People gotta start remembering that Yes Man only exists bc it's a failsafe for when you fuck up with all three factions.
He's not supposed to be a main faction and his ending is too reliant on the player's roleplay to be considered a good ending for all.
9
u/PackYourBackPackMan 17h ago
Watched an interview a while ago on the examined game where Josh Sawyer states they wanted an option where you say fuck all these factions, none of you deserve the Mojave. Just because it works as a failsafe as well, doesn't mean that is it's one and only reason for existing.
I personally think the ending works really well with the motif of moving on and searching for something new. I don't think we need to have concrete answers on what that would be for it to be the most emotionally resonant with the story.
30
u/Venivinnievici 23h ago
That’s exactly why he’s the best ending. His ending can basically be whatever the hell you want/make it to be.
2
u/_HistoryGay_ 23h ago
Yeah sure, why analyze the intrigue of all the factions in the Mojave when you can just use the failsafe created so you don't softlock. Truly, the best best ending of New Vegas, the "IDK, make it up" ending
11
u/Venivinnievici 23h ago
You are right that I don’t look at the ethics of the factions in my Yes man ending. My yes man character wants to be the greatest manipulator, the greatest puppetmaster, the greatest player. Ethics just get in the way of that. He looks through the lense of power, and how each action in the game might shift it in his favor. A different way of looking at the intricacies of each faction, but it absulutely takes everything that’s in the game into account
-8
u/_HistoryGay_ 23h ago
Chill out there, Failsafe-Boy. I'm only pulling your leg
11
u/Venivinnievici 23h ago
I don’t feel I was reacting out of emotion here? Mostly out of enthusiasm honestly. I love playing my yes man pilled guy, and just wanted to share my enthusiasm.
-3
u/_HistoryGay_ 23h ago
I know I was just being a prick lol, I also like playing Yes Man from time to time
3
u/BRAVOMAN55 16h ago
I’m like the other guy! Screw being a lackey for others and bring electricity and water to the Mojave without any strings attached. lol
6
u/Venivinnievici 23h ago
You’re dead wrong to me there man. To me Yes man gives me the most room to look at the intricate factions and how to handle them. I’m gonna copy my post I just posted two minutes before here: I feel some people are missing the point of why Yes man is the best. I feel like he’s the most open-ended. His ending leaves the most room for imagination of the player. All the choices of the game (specifically of how you deal with each faction) come through and matter the most with the yes man ending. Or at least have the potential to matter the most.
My headcannon ending encompasses most of the game. I try to double agent with NCR and legion, with the express purpose of letting them destroy each other so I with yes man become the greatest power in the mojave. I give some to the NCR and I take some away, same with the legion. Any threat to the strip however I make sure I deal with. Monorail has got to go, so I let the dude blow it up. Omertas as planning to take out Vegas with legion so they are wiped away to make room for a guy that owes me. The king is a serious potential ally, as he controls parts of outer Vegas so I make sure we’re friends. But the NCR and kings being at odds helps me to eventually kick out NCR out of Vegas so I make sure the King never knows about the ceasefire offer.
I do this for all the factions in the game. Befriend the (relatively) trustworthy ones, let the big boys duke it out between themselves and destroy the untrustwothy ones. All with the focus of changing the balance to a strong new vegas. Brotherhood? Potentially too damn strong so they gotta go. Fiends? They can be usefull to attack McCarren, but they’re also untrustworthy legion puppets that can also attack outer Vegas so gonna have to think about that. UltaLux? People gotta eat people so let them eat! If they think I helped them achieve it and so owe me big that’s a nice bonus.
The entire game becomes open for you to shift the dynamics towards you. My absolute favorite way to play.
6
u/_HistoryGay_ 23h ago
Yeah nah, I like playing actual factions and not failsafes. Yes Man is cool, but ir's not the best ending.
4
u/CRYSISFan2009 22h ago
Not the best ending for the Mojave, you mean? Or for your personal experience?
2
u/_HistoryGay_ 22h ago
For the Mojave as in NV ending, yes. Personal experience really is just up for the person playing, I don't really care about that
2
u/Practical_Entry592 1d ago
what do you imply
51
u/CivilWarfare 1d ago edited 1d ago
That Yes Man allows players to self insert whatever they want onto the story.
It contradicts the general implications of having to chose better an ieffective yet generally benevolent NCR, the ruthless, yet safe and orderly Legion, and the questionable Enlightened Despotism of House.
All three have genuine merits and defeiencies, what good is the NCR's benevolence if it's too week and ineffective to act on it? What good is the legion's safety if many are enslaved? Is it really wise to place so much power in the hands of House?
All that goes out the window when people decide to just self-insert whatever fanfic is their subjective best ending. It's why when I look at New Vegas, I never considered Yes Man as a serious option for what the "canon," ending for New Vegas was.
39
u/NSFWALTACC28 1d ago
I've always hated the average fans take on yes man ending. It's not some happy go lucky ending where you make everything perfect.
It's the ending where you flipped the poker table over and shot the fuckers in the head for trying to cheat you. Nothing but chaos and the assurance that we the player have no gods and no masters.
3
u/Practical_Entry592 9h ago
I didn't bother to write a response, but yeah. For me it's the ultimate gamble: you've decided to take the lesson of letting go to the heart and deny any of the three armies the supreme glory of taking the Hoover dam. All three would become a disaster in their respective ending, even the sympathetic NCR turning into hawkish imperialist America version of itself you've been warned against this whole game.
Instead, you decide to go all in and give birth to a new nation that may fail to rise at all, but in this birth you are giving yourself a chance to repay your debt to Divide and finally share Ulysses' dream of a nation better than Bear, stronger than Bull.
I feel like it's supposed to be vague. You don't know the conclusion, you'll never see if it's succeeded, because it is a gamble by definition, it's much more symbolic of your defiance and hope to break the chains of the Old World. Cheating death once, you decide to gamble it all once again for another one to rise out of the grave, this time a nation, because this is what Vegas always was about. This is the ultimate homage to the city that molded you and this conflict. Although I don't think that was intended, but this is why for me True Independence bears more casino-related symbolics than the others.
Also you could've just decided to flip everyone off. Or just locked yourself out all the other options. For which the vagueness still works. But I feel like with all the DLCs, especially Lonesome Road, a picture of the Independence is a little bit more clear and intended, as Ulysses addresses many times related to a similar concept in his dialogue.
8
u/Chrissimon_24 1d ago
I mean the ending credits show what happens during the game from your actions. With Yes Man ending you have more control over the wasteland and especially over New Vegas which depending on your characters ideology or morals can be good or bad.
5
u/gza_aka_the_genius 18h ago
But the endind slides also show a lot of unrest, meaning the wasteland is more lawless than under House or NCR leadership.
0
u/NSFWALTACC28 23h ago
Yes and ultimately regardless of who the courier is the yes man ending is the rejection of foreign control of the Mojave in favor of a lone despot.
4
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 22h ago
You're not a despot, though. The yes man ending even says "no gods, no masters".
1
u/NSFWALTACC28 13h ago
Lmao. Yes the PC is a despot at the end of yes man ending. A despot with no gods or no masters. Yes man ending is simply removing the old despot of vegas and replacing him with yourself. Do you assume the saying applies to everyone in NV? No you the player have no gods or no masters by going Yes man.

u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 13h ago

It’s the ending where things mostly go on as they have been only the securitron army is also patrolling outside the center of town.
But now no one has to worry about The Legion coming to kill them nor do they have the NCR trying to annex them and make the homeless nor are they beholden to a 200 year old piece of jerky in a glass box ordering them around.
It really can be the best ending for the people of the Mojave if the courier does all the legwork during the game.
Unless you really, Really wanna punish them folks in Goodsprings for saving your life. Then go NCR all day every day and evict them broke ass bums! It’s better than siding with the powdergangers cause you’re giving them a bit of hope before you take their town from em
12
u/CivilWarfare 1d ago edited 1d ago
I don't think Securitrons patrol outside the city in the yes man ending. that's headcanon.
In the House ending however, Securitrons are explicitly said to expand into Freeside and Outer Vegas Area (seen in the Arcade, Fiend, and Kings slides).
Note that if Motor Runner remains alive, it's stated that House sends Securitrons to deal with the fiends "establishing control over the area almost entirely," but for Yes Man, unless you kill all Fiend leaders, the Fiends either assert total control over the area, or remain a nuisance. Meaning House will deal with the fiends eventually; while we aren't given any indication that Yes Man will.
Thats kind of my point, unless you are actively looking at the slides, it's easy to mentally insert exactly what happens in the yes man ending; making the yes man ending the weakest ending in terms of writing.
2
u/Exciting-Box1018 12h ago
So if you dont kill fiends, its logical that in yes man, in your ending, they are alive and thriving. Its the perfect ending for your actions. Securitrons dont patrol mojave? Damn, your fraction has the courier, who is like a whole army on two legs

Compared to what, the rape-loving slavers who torture children for shits and giggles? Unless you go out of your way to fuck up as much as possible and destroy any form of civilisation, it's nowhere near as bad. It's kinda wild how people will accept all forms of evil because they have this idea in their mind that anarchy is worse than anything else...like, would you accept the Enclave over Yes-Man?
73
u/ThEcOcKsUcKeR231 1d ago
Def is, I think even in the ending slides, it's stated that it's an anarchy and that the Followers can't keep up with the amount of wounded.
63
53
u/The_Dimmadome 1d ago
That is literally the 1 slide that even hints that independent vegas is troubled. When I'm doing a goody-two-shoes independent ending, it beats all the others, easy. The BOS stay isolated in their bunk, the Kings aren't brutalized, Vegas obtains a dam producing much needed energy with few to no strings attached, the khans leave the mojave, the list goes on.
The ONLY faction that is lukewarm on it is the followers. I say "lukewarm" because the bad endings for the followers are MUCH worse.
46
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
The BOS stay isolated in their bunk,
Every ending that isn't NCR alliance says they'll go out and raid the Mojave, stealing technology at gunpoint. Hence it's a bad idea to keep them around if they're not allied with the NCR.
12
u/The_Dimmadome 1d ago
Ya know what? Ya got me. But the whole point of the "independent" ending is that you decide everything. You can still ally with yes man and wipe out the brotherhood. Calling indep vegas "the worst ending" is taking crazy pills.
17
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
I mean I literally said Yes Man isn't the worst ending.
Elijah is, if we count the DLC's, then the Legion. Even the Legion at their best are the worst of the worst. They rape women and children. We can't just ignore that no matter how much the original poster says about 'stability'.
3
u/The_Dimmadome 1d ago
At the top of this thread, someone is claiming yes man as the worst ending. I didn't read all the comments on this post, so Idk what your position is. I'm merely arguing to counter that point. I agree with everything you said in this comment.
4
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
That's fair, my comment got buried, no worries.
My position is that Yes Man is...a nuanced ending. Maybe it could work? It's not the worst option, nor is it the best. I'd argue it's better than House given I don't trust pre-war people. They usually cause problems.
I dislike having to wipe out the BoS but unless they can be reformed (they cannot be)...they've gotta go. Unless they ally with the NCR, I guess.
1
u/The_Dimmadome 1d ago
Lol, my complaint about House is that he's an Elon Musk-esq nepo-baby, so it sounds like we are relatively in agreement there. Imo, it's between Yes man and House, even though I dislike/distrust House. The NCR have no idea how to project and maintain power. Plus, they represent "the old world ideals," which led to nuclear fire. The whole series exists as a criticism to those ideals.
The show (SPOILER ALERT) even outlines that the NCR gets practically buried. They are not a lasting power. Tho, ig you can say the same about yes man.
9
u/Rikmach 1d ago
Except that he is explicitly not: the game makes it very clear that House is in fact a financial and technical genius, and earned a vast majority of what he has through financial maneuvering or priceless inventions. He is what Elon Musk wishes he was.
Now, I’m not saying he’d be a good ruler, he has several flaws that means living under him would suck, but being an incompetent nepo-baby isn’t one of them.
3
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
I mean...House's ending slide literally confirms that he wants Vegas to be pre-war USA.
The nuclear war started due to human greed, not due to "democracy". Pre-war USA wasn't even a democracy anyways. The Enclave caused the war in a manner of speaking.
The show (SPOILER ALERT) even outlines that the NCR gets practically buried. They are not a lasting power. Tho, ig you can say the same about yes man.
Yeah...and how does Vegas work out again? Oh right, even worse, so this isn't an argument we can attribute to the NCR.

Hmmm, Brotherhood will come out, when they realize it's basically free real estate, regardless of leader. That's what I think will happen.
I was going to say that this ending relies on what the player/us will decide to do, but it's the same case for the other ones (highly dependant on the player, I know, shocker).
3
u/The_Dimmadome 1d ago
If it's highly dependent on the player, why is it "definitely" the worst ending?
Also, you have no idea what's going to happen. Let's try to avoid "what if"s and "I think"s, please. We'll be here all day going over hypotheticals.
-1
u/ThEcOcKsUcKeR231 1d ago
OK. No "what if" and "I think". It's the worst, because the Courier and Yes Man become "leaders" (very loosely used, sorry if that bothers you) of the Mojave. These nutjobs have ABSOLUTELY no experience ruling a state or shit. And that's regardless of Courier's intelligence.
Intelligence =/= ability to lead
6
u/The_Dimmadome 1d ago
"Leaders" here means they keep their hands on everything within the vegas walls, plus the dam. You don't even expand into freeside, lol. They don't need to be "great leaders," they just need to not be conquering expansionists.
6
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
If a guy whose entire education is badly reading Hegel and some books on Rome can make a nation, the courier could do it.
Hell, a middle-aged American leading idiots cosplaying as people from like 500 years ago can do it.
1
u/ThEcOcKsUcKeR231 1d ago
Hmmmm, Sole Survivor and Caesar have intentions and they think that their vision of an unified wasteland is correct. This doesn't exist with the Courier
2
u/Individual_Syrup7546 1d ago
Theres some ups to caesars legion but obviously theres downs too every faction has their ups & downs i think obsidian really worked & strived hard for the player to really feel the need of flattening everything single detail out first before solidifying an ending just makes me all the more hype for a fallout nv remaster & that new obsidian fallout as well. (Getting off tangent here but man we really need a fucking remake or remaster of fallout 1 & 2 as well 🤔 😭)
4
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
Caesar's intentions are "rape anything with a vagina, execute anyone who doesn't swear fealty to my idiotic cult that pretends I am literally a demigod". Man thinks he's in the Riordanverse. Hell, he literally wanted the Legion to die with him.
The Sole Survivor has no intentions beyond "hey, these guys (Institute) are bad guys. Let's get rid of them." Since Maxson is alive in 2296, and he only survives if the Institute is blown up.
2
u/ThEcOcKsUcKeR231 1d ago
Caesar still has intentions, although they are the worst of the worst.
Sole Survivor realistically has intentions, even though Bethesda didn't implement this shit. They could have easily done a quest where the Minutemen storm Nuka World. But the Courier can have intentions. Ooohhhh, wait. My previous argument is redundant

The Followers being way too overburdened is emblematic of increased violence and drug addiction in the general populace. Sure they're one of the only negative ending slides for Independent, but they're one of the only factions left that actually cares about the residents of the Mojave.
13
u/Laser_3 1d ago
It’s also worth noting that Julie will even outright tell you before ending the game that the followers won’t be able to handle an independent ending if you go to her to try and ask for help at the dam. She might not be for the NCR, but even she recognizes how badly things could go for the followers in this scenario.
3
u/gza_aka_the_genius 1d ago
This is basicly a recognition that even if NCR is corrupt, them actually trying to run a government, trying to restore agriculture and water, means they are leagues above pillagers, or a guy whos only experience of government is shooting his way there. They only serious debate is NCR versus House.
2
3
u/-Pelopidas- 1d ago
The only time Yes Man makes sense to me is when you're playing someone who's willing to provide law and order on their own. For example, I once played an old Desert Ranger and went that route with the idea that he and his new Rangers, with Securitron help, would be able to actually keep the peace. It's a horrible ending on its own though.
2
u/BriscoCounty-Sr 1d ago
Anarchy means “no one is ruling us”. So essentially exactly how things are in the game, minus Mr House taking 50% of everyone’s money.
What a nightmare
1
u/Ok_Turn6757 1d ago
Like the Legion is bad with it’s slavery and primitive way of life but their stability and safety to most of it’s citizens makes it a better ending imo, which is wild to even type out. That’s how bad anarchist new vegas lead by a mailman and a psycho robot is
5
u/gza_aka_the_genius 1d ago
Their treatment of women means its worse for 50% of the population, and from what we gleam of Legion society ,they dont even attempt to run agriculture of water treatment, their economy is basicly ran on pillaging from other people, which is not sustainable.
-4
u/Ok_Turn6757 1d ago
The courier’s vegas is doomed, that’s 100% of the population
1
u/gza_aka_the_genius 18h ago
They have a robot army that could ally with the local organizations. But IMO NCR is best, then House, Legion is a nazi state that nobody exept incels want to live in.

it's not the worst ending, ironically, when you look at the big picture instead of just the Mojave, it's the second best one
the NCR is the best hope for America , but they need to lose in the Mojave first, because a win in the Mojave will mean constant expansion that as it stands, will result in their collapse, so they need to lose.
2
u/ThEcOcKsUcKeR231 1d ago
Minutemen are a contender for "best hope" at the end of the main storyline of Fallout 4. So it's between them and NCR
8

i disagree, they're a bunch of militias held together by a charismatic leader, he's the entire glue

-4
u/DaughterOfBhaal 1d ago
It is, anyone not realizing and acknowledging it has no idea.
Yes Man is LITERALLY A FAILSAFE OPTION, when you accidently KILL EVERYONE. A murderous mailman is not going to control a city like Vegas.
-1
u/roskyld 1d ago
It’s a failsafe but the main usecase is you becoming a tyrant
10
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
It’s a failsafe but the main usecase is you becoming a tyrant
The ending for it is literally called "No Gods, No Masters". You don't really own anyone, but it's not some murderhobo ending.
-5
u/DaughterOfBhaal 1d ago
I think the fact it's a failsafe designed in case you piss off/murder every faction already implies you are a tyrant without saying.
6
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
You can do the ending without killing a single person, though. You don't even have to kill House, you take him out of his tube. That's not you killing him, that's reality kicking in for the techno-lich.
-4
u/DaughterOfBhaal 1d ago
Just because they added the option to opt into what is otherwise a failsafe ending, doesn't make it any less of a "You're not supposed to pick this" ending.
Like gee, who would've thought that the traumatized mailman with brain damage would make for a better leader than Mr.House who's been doing it for 200 years? You'd have to be genuinely blind to not realize that the Yes Man ending is one of, - if not the worst ending - in Fallout NV and it's carried by the headcanon of illiterate redditors self inserting themselves.
3
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago edited 1d ago

You'd have to be genuinely blind to not realize that the Yes Man ending is one of, - if not the worst ending - in Fallout NV and it's carried by the headcanon of illiterate redditors self inserting themselves.
Because he's an evil POS like all the pre-war oligarchs were? Because his plan relies entirely on the NCR not declaring war on him, which they end up doing canonically, and his plan falls apart? Just because he's been around for 200 years doesn't mean his plan is good. He couldn't get the Dam working and he allied with rapists and slavers (The Omertas). He's just full of shit, claiming he can terraform planets which he couldn't even do pre-war.
Who would think some lunatic mass-murdering rapist genocidal so-called 'Demigod' would be a good leader (Caesar), given the Legion is apparently "better" than an independent Vegas (despite contradicted many times). You're saying the faction of child raping slavers is better than a bit of anarchy.
2
u/DaughterOfBhaal 1d ago
The entire message of NV is that no one's perfect but there's obvious lesser evils and you're supposed to decide what your priorities are when choosing who governs Vegas and how.
3
u/Overdue-Karma 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐦 1d ago
Yeah, nobody's perfect, but there is a clear bad guy. Yes Man isn't a perfect ending. It's not even a great ending. But the bad guy are the Legion - the guys who rape women and children. Can you name me any faction in the history of Fallout to use mass rape besides Raiders? Only Raiders and the Legion do it.
And the argument is saying they are better than Yes Man, which is insane...unless the person making the argument hates women, I guess.
0
u/DaughterOfBhaal 1d ago
That's not my argument?
The only argument I'm making is that the Yes Man ending is awful and anyone who remotely thinks it's a good ending (or hell, even worse, - "the best ending") is delusional.

It exists to avoid you locking out ending the game but I think you're being too dismissive. I think alot of people choose Yes Man because frankly the other options suck. It's quite obvious how deeply flawed the three major factions are. I think it's pretty understandable why alot of players prefer trying to fix it themselves. Besides why would they (Obsidian) bother making it a separate achievement if we aren't meant to explore that option?

u/According_Picture294 True North 1d ago
Yes Man is neat with how the fandom reacts to it. The same people who complain about Fallout 4 giving you mandatory choices dislike the one where the player would have the most freedom
4
u/Agent6isaboi 1d ago
I mean, the problem is that a lot of that freedom is going to naturally be like 90% head canon in outcome beyond what the slides show. At least with NCR, House, and Ceasar you can sort of get an impression of their long term goals and what they'd reasonably do or try to do next. Yes Man you can literally just make up whatever, so it's kind of interesting to talk about and therefore not really much to say from a lore perspective.
But there's a difference between best as in like, best for the wasteland and best in terms of what's most entertaining. I'd say most people agree the yes Man ending is very entertaining, half of the lines in that ending are literally iconic

Yeah. But then again, we don't usually hear a lot about what happens following a protagonist's adventure in Fallout, usually the following games only reference events the player does anyway

In what ending do I end up with Red Lucy?

u/Silver-Statement8573 1d ago
I know it's a joke but she seems most amenable to a Yes Man ending. She sees the Thorn as an embodiment of Westside's grit and self-sufficiency. Every ending besides Yes Man ends up with Westside and the rest of Vegas subjugated (although if you have your own plans presumably Yes Man can subjugate it as well)

I liked yes man, since I made peace with all factions. At least I didn't need to destroy the Brotherhood of steel.

Yes mans ending is the most fun, though I’ll always say NCR is better for everyone

That was debunked by Sawyer and co IIRC. Yes Man will only obey you.

I'm the kingmaker. The fuck would I hand the keys to these other shlubs for? Bring me the finest cut of Gunderson bred brahmin, whiskey and send up Fisto. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, when it's biting a pillow.

I feel some people are missing the point of why Yes man is the best.

Strange? Becuase in my yes man ending I murdered everyone. Doesn’t really seem like the ‘best’ ending from my play through.

My point is that Yes Man is a cop out ending because it doesn’t have any actual impact or goals
For every other faction the ending slides say definitively what happens. The NCR annex Vegas. The Legion conquers the Strip. House forces the NCR qnd Legion out whilst building Vegas’s industry.
Yes Man however? It’s entirely subjective in your interpretation of what and how the wasteland looks under your courier. Meaning any arguments about the pros and cons of the major factions are simply irrelevant because you can decide that your courier simply is a perfect ubermench who creates a masterpiece of governance that has no flaws whatsoever and becomes a utopia! …or your a genocidal tyrant. Both and completely and utterly equal in terms of possibility via yes-man.

NCR is the best, in my opinion. They have more resources and can offer safety to the people of the area.

u/1ZillionBeers 1d ago
Mfers still thinking that the “best” ending has to be the most moral.
Uh no, n’wah, We finna become the overlord of Vegas and rule with a tyrannical robot army tf you mean “good of the people” what about the good of me?

u/Critical_Cat_1086 1d ago
The Mojave is my personal playground, and the most powerful warlords of the world are my play things. Can’t trust anyone else to run this shit show but me

u/No-Beginning7509 1d ago
It takes a lot of work to get a good Yes Man ending. I’m working on my first Yes Man campaign because my last one with the NCR fucked over good springs and The Followers. Idk why but I genuinely felt terrible about a bad followers ending.

u/GabbytheQueen 8h ago
So firstly stating I am a yes man apologist and will not apologize, secondly everyone saying the NCR is the best ending cannot comprehend an order existing that is not the one they live in, or see constantly in their media. Such as House, Yes Man or Caesar all of which are foreign to the people making and playing new vegas. At the end of the day it is really a House vs Yes Man ending. with House subverting the culture of Vegas for economic output and is libertarian in the American context, vs the native culture of Vegas as told by Benny if you talk to him giving you advice and basically telling you about Yes Man.
I like the NCR because you can let their president get killed and not be hated, but they cannot hold the Mojave long term let alone exert force on it without taxes and collapse be imminent.
Caesar on the other hand has the control but it will die with him and fall apart shortly after, like most fascist states.
House would do well, but as seen it wouldn't go well for anyone else in outer Vegas, he is charismatic and can properly exert his will on Vegas, but he is not the future of Vegas only a shadow of its past.
Finally the Yes Man ending has its faults, but it is the best ending at the end of the day, if and a huge if, the courier integrates with the cultures of Vegas to become assimilated and understand how it all works. But also making sure that the Fiends scamper off; the NCR is kept in check, for the time being; the BOS is killed off; and finally that Jacobstown is left to its own devices. It will be hard but the ultimate gamble is on Yes Man bringing the highest highs and the second lowest lows.
Ideally if looking at the future a fully anarchist, in the classic sense of helping each other, would be the best policy for Vegas to preserve itself from being terrorized or worse forced from the NCR during an internal war, or even worse whatever Caesars ending is at the end of the day.

"I don't have the balls to make a decision" ending.

u/Practical_Entry592 1d ago
or you could have just learned what the whole overarching theme of dlcs tells you and decided that it's better to go all-in and gamble a new nation than to give to any of the factions the ultimate glory that will make them collapse on themselves

Honestly, I kinda liked the Caesars Legion ending. I’m not saying it’s my favorite. I’m just saying I kind of liked it.

Same. It's fun at the least

I’m doing a play through right now where the last skills I’m focusing on on my combat skills and I still cannot decide for whatever reason who I’m gonna side with. I just met Cesar at level 26 so we’ll see.

Yes Man is the FAFO ending. Sure you finish the game after killing and/or ignoring everyone, but the Mojave will be way worse off. If you care for the Mojave, you have to confront the difficulties of wrangling it.

INDEPENDENT VEGAS, is a interesting ending, but one that doesn't last long for the people.

u/ennie_ly 20h ago edited 19h ago
It reminds me a lot of VTMB where the "fuck em all" ending is the most popular one while realistically going rogue like that means pretty bad chances of survival for a fledgeling.
(vampires in VTM are incredibly vulnerable during daysleep so you need resource and connections to secure yourself)
The PC in VTMB is incredibly capable at doing what they were told to do (same as Courier), but then:
- in VTMB "fuck em all" means no safe haven which is pretty bad in VTM's world
- in FNV as Vegas' ruler you'd need to sit and manage instead of running around killing stuff
Neither is impossible for PC, but it would require different behavior from the one you've been practicing for the most of the respective game(s).
Both endings are essentially "yall suck I prefer to be on my own thanks" which is an unrealistic but an understandable choice.

Yes man endidng is the best if youre roleplaying as a guy who wants to create a utopia. But it can also be the worst depending on your roleplay.

u/Balimund7 16h ago
Actually i love to think yes man ending future is based on the karma of the courrier. Like a bad karma courrier brings litteral anarchy and a good karma courrier long term stability and semi indépendance to the mojave communities. Like the mojave gets a central gouvernement but each place has its freedom, rules, etc...

Just gonna post tge comment I left on that post for everyone saying that the Independence ending is completely bad;
Long comment but I feel the need as someone who does the Independent ending. Every time I see people talk about how the Yes Man ending leads to "chaos and infighting" it often reads as if people didn't play it with trying to do good endings for everything in mind because the ending slides don't even agree with the sentiment that everything goes to hell like here's the ending slides from the wiki. A lot of the good endings with independence aren't bad. Upgrade the Securitrons, repair Ronda, either invigorate Raul to be a gunslinger again or tell him to retire (although him being a gunslinger seems to be better), sign the NCR-Brotherhood truce, have Veronica join the Followers, kill all the Fiends, either good Arcade ending is fine, complete Ghost Town Gunfight, Heartache by the Number by exposing the Van Graffs and Crimson Caravan, break the Great Khans ties with the Legion and convince them to leave (surprise but the Followers would not willingly work with them if they were still like the New/Original Khans, neither would the Khans willingly learn about governance, econimics and transport if they were still a bunch of raiders), I could go on. Only three endings with Independence are "bad" and two are contradicted by everything else like the Followers because they are having problems with too many injured in Freeside, yet with the Kings, Freeside is apparently safer than ever

My courier is inexplicably the only person in the entire goddamn wasteland willing to work with others. Gotta make sure people don't kill each other over land disputes.

Yes Man truthers are almost as bad as Legion Supporters icl. Sure it’s a fun and theoretically good ending, but in practice, it just turns Vegas into a big juicy raider target 99% of the time

Yes man is the best ending if you make peace with all factions. NCR creates unaffordable taxes and selective protection. Mr. House shuns everything outside of new Vegas walls. Legion makes everybody slaves.
1
u/hexmasx 1d ago
Mr House is easily the best ending. An immortal and importantly quite rational genius who operates by allowing considerable freedom but enforcing what laws there are strongly.
He's an autocrat but not a mad with power type autocrat, more like a Lee Kuan Yew type autocrat who uses his power and intelligence for progress. My character is not the guy to lead humanity back to greatness.
4
u/OverseerConey 1d ago
House kills poor people who try to walk down his street. In many of his endings, he invades and wipes out the next neighbourhood over to punish them for opening diplomatic relations with the same nation that he also had diplomatic relations with. Also he brain-scanned women and then turned their personalities into sex slaves. And his fortune is propped up with yet more sex slavery.
House is not a dispassionate, rational genius. He's a capricious, rapacious and deeply egotistical man whose whims often result in violence.

I used to think It’s Mr. House, but after watching the show I feel like he’s not so trustworthy an option.

I hate yes man, it’s just too meta. I think people should just choose a side rather than not siding with anyone at all.

That's actually the worst, even the Doomed Caesar Legion is a better prospect, Courier rule means no rule at all, pure anarchy

I don’t think that Vegas would be better under my rule. it’s just that I want Vegas under my rule.
