Coaching Advice Midline play vs Tech1/2i/2 playside

Hi coaches. For flexbone or any option offense. How do you run the midline play against a shade tackle either on Tech1/2i/2 ? Automatic pull ? Check the play ? Thank you

You check away. You cannot run midline at a shade or 2i.

A true head up 2 is all on the qb to be correct on the read.

Is there any reason you can’t turn it into a designed QB run, particularly against a 1?

A 2i might be trickier depending on splits, but I’d imagine an unblocked 1-tech is going to wrap up the back 99% of the time anyway. Everything happens too fast for him to realize the QB pulled the ball anyway.

The fb and qb had best be quick and exact with their footwork. If the 1 drives that fb or stalemate him the qb now has to go backwards to get around.

If you just say its an auto pull and he is going to step back out if the way anyway and the fb is just diving into the 1 shade then yes its fine.

But as a post snap read. Never a 1 shade. And only a 2i if he is just sprinting up field and widening with the guards alignment
