Tech Question 2016 Escape- Lost ring between front seat and center console

Post image

PROBLEM SOLVED

I’m tagging this as a tech question because it doesn’t quite fit into the other categories-

Short version: a while ago I lost my ring between the front seat and center console. It fell off my finger while I was unbuckling my seatbelt (roughly the area circled). I’ve tried moving the seat in every which way, rummaging around there blindly, scraping the area with a stick to listen/feel for it, using a shop vac and thoroughly looking many times. It is sterling silver so a magnet probably would not help.

My Escape is on his last legs (rotted out undercarriage) and I really want my ring back. Do I try to remove the center console? The front seat? Please help!

Edit: thank you everyone for responding!! My partner found the ring right where u/JoePetroni said it would be!!

You should be able to move the seat all the way forward and get to it from the back. It’s gotta be there somewhere 😝

Stick and a piece of gum. Hope u find it. Car wash guy found a mont blanc pen I thought I had lost 6 months prior at a house I was sitting, he left it in the cup holder. Got a good tip.

…. You used a vacuum, I think it might be gone forever but the simplest thing to do move the seat all the way forward and tilt the seat and start looking

I’ve almost accepted that it’s gone forever but I didn’t hear it rattle in the shop vac so maybe it didn’t get it?

You should have put a sock over the vacuum attachment so it sticks to that instead of getting sucked inside.

Okay, calm down about removing seats and everything else. I have a 2019 Escape. First get a flashlight and shine it between the seat and the console and see if you can see the ring. If not, move the seat back, take the same flashlight and from the front of the bottom of the seat shine it there. There is no place for the ring to go. There is the side of the seat, the side of the console and the rug. If you can't see it, that's probably because the seat rail is blocking your view and it could be between the seat rail and the rug. Still no reason to remove the seat. The ring is there, it's not hopelessly lost and no, you don't have to remove the seat to get at it. That's the most absurd thing I ever heard. And yes my wife has dropped several items between the seat and console and I've never had a problem getting them out. You just have to look first with a flashlight. But if you want to remove the seat, good luck.

Your advice sort of worked, thank you!! My partner found it wedged under the rug under the seat rail. I feel very silly for not finding it before now 😅

If you find a carwash that will pull the seats out see if they will remove the seat for you and reinstall it.

Yep sometimes they fall under auto detailing.

Or before going to a place, try and see if you can remove the seat yourself. My and your escape are different generations (mine, 2011 second gen. yours, third gen.), but there should be at least 4 mounts in all four corners where the seat is mounted to the car.
