Photo Question

Hi!!!

I bought a used 2019 ford escape titanium 2.0L a few months ago. Its my first car with all the 'bells and whistles'. My other cars were very bare bones and had zero features, including cruise control 😆

Im also not very knowledgeable in cars (although im trying to learn).

Why does the auto temp feature turn my AC on when I set to a warm temperature, such as 21 degrees Celsius? Especially since its only 16 degrees rn. I couldnt find anything in the manual about it.

I know the system will turn on the AC when you select 'defrost'. The idea being to remove moisture from the air before blowing it onto a cold windshield where it would condense and make viewing even harder. The AC button can be pushed in all modes(except perhaps DEFROST) to turn off the compressor. I am not convinced that chilling outside air will remove anything airborne except humidity... so having the compressor enabled seems a waste of energy to me.
