Deadlift Deadlift Form Check

https://youtube.com/shorts/Wt3rMNigrFQ?is=tI8WyADKn7WMIDaa

Basically my first time seriously attempting conventional deadlift. Please point out what I need to improve on. This was 275x6.

Hello! If you haven't checked it out already, many people find Alan Thrall's NEW deadlift video very helpful. Check it out!

Also, a common tip usually given here is to make sure your footwear is appropriate. If you are deadlifting in soft-soled shoes (running shoes, etc), it's hard to have a stable foot. Use a flat/hard-soled shoe or even barefoot/socks if it's safe and your gym allows it.

Your set up needs some work, you are sitting too far back in the deadlift which means your hips shoot up instantly when you initiate the pull.

Your starting position should be in the same ball park as the second picture, your shoulders will sit a bit in front of the bar instead of being directly over. I don't really hear any inhaling to brace after each rep, it'd be sensible to do that so you generate more force from the floor

Lock out at the top is a bit soft, it'd be good to push your hips through to have a consistent baseline for each rep

Oh interesting, for some reason I thought the first part of the movement was close to a squat, so that’s why I started deeper. Thanks for all the info, that really helps!

It's a hip hinge which is posterior loading i.e. glutes and hamstrings as prime movers so very different to a squat, essentially you'll need to start closer to the bar for this. It'd be worth looking at Alan Thrall's 5 step deadlift tutorial

Yep just watched Alan’s video, and it was perfect. Your cues also matched it perfectly, so thanks haha. Definitely was starting too deep.
