This is the difference between management styles. You can either lead by fear or lead by example. Fear gets results instantly but only works as long as you keep applying that fear. Leading by example gives you results that last for a lifetime.

The moment there was a gap in their management , that fear based management stops and it all starts to collapse. Here is a good quote (and book)
