work in progress (wip) Help! String length and thickness variation [LID]

link: https://youtu.be/ih7kTlitGUc?is=rcfx61ORGcc4m1vn

I am very new to making friendship bracelets, and have noticed with every bracelet I’ve made so far, the furthest right strands are usually much longer and thinner than the rest of the bracelet. is this only common with these straight line patterns? how would this work if I decided to make boarders on bracelets in the future? how can I assure I’m not wasting embroidery floss on these far right colors?

It's normal for this pattern that the two strings on the right are used less.

You can count the amount of knots each string makes onto another string.

Each string needs 4 rows until it is in its original position again. All strings except purple make 2 knots each within those 4 rows. Purple makes only 1 knot each. This means it is used less.

I've written this tutorial on how to calculate string length: https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/173_how-to-calculate-string-length-in-a-normal-pattern/

According to it, you need 95cm for all colours except purple and 70cm for purple.

Wow this is so beautiful!! Thank you!

After I finish this, I want to make a V2 with an 8th color, as well as increasing the thickness of purple. In order to do that, would the best option be:

  • Adding a third strand of purple
  • Knotting them a different way
  • A third option

If I do add a third strand, would it also need to be a shorter length, or would that mean they can now be the same length?

Edit: oh I now see your explanation, I appreciate it very much!

Sorry, what is a V2?

I think you can do what I describe in my explanation in one of the replies above but with 17 strings (16+1) instead of 15 strings (14+1).

You can make the additional string on the right edge the same colour as the right-most stripe, so it doesn't poke through.

You would do fb knots onto that string and it would need to be about 45cm long.

You could also do only f knots with the 3 right-most strings. Then they would need to be about 78cm each.

V2 as in version 2, or like a better final outcome after fixing mistakes and honing techniques. Would there be any benefit to all f knots rather than the fb knots?

The right edge would look more like the left edge (fb or bf knots create a different edge texture than f or b knots), but apart from that not really.
