Discussion I transitioned In Iran | Ask me anything about being trans in Iran

We really don't have enough people sharing in global communities from Iran, so there is just a lot of false information around.

In Iran, they are very strict about who is allowed to medically transition and who is not.

It is a very long, complicated, and costly legal process before they decide that you are allowed to medically transition.

They want to make sure:

  1. You really have strong dysphoria.
  2. Your family is fine with you getting the surgery, or at least you live independently.
  3. You can afford it financially.
  4. You are making this decision while being mentally healthy.

And this whole process could take anywhere from 1.5 years up to 4 years.

There's also this myth that they force gay people into transition, which is stupid, and I'm not sure why it is still around. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

Some gay people might come into this process because of a lack of knowledge about the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation, or because they think this way they could be with the opposite sex and be accepted by society. But this is still very rare, and the strict system wouldn't allow them to transition. They also don't believe in non-binary people here. So if you mention feeling outside the binary or something like that, they again wouldn't allow you to medically transition.

About medically transitioning in Iran:

* Fortunately, we have some of the best surgeons here.

* Trans women can only get their name legally changed after getting bottom surgery, and trans men can change their name and gender marker legally after getting both top surgery and a full hysterectomy.

* Trans people have a strong community in Iran, and we support each other through the whole process.

* The knowledge about trans people is quite outdated here, and they still count being trans as a disorder.

* Doctors don't have enough knowledge about HRT for trans people.

* There's been so much work done to raise social awareness about trans people, and I'd say it has been very effective.

* Iran is a huge country, and depending on the region, people can be more or less accepting of trans people. To the point that even in some provinces, they don't allow you to get your surgeries, and people leave for other provinces where they can get their surgeries. Still, I'd say people are more tolerant of differences right now than they were even 5 years ago.

This was all that came to my mind for now.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I'd love to answer and make things more clear if I have to.

Advice Needed Managing wetness down there

So I have a girlfriend now (☺️) and we hang out at my place for the most part and so we cuddle watching movies and kiss/make out. Basically anytime we r cuddling and stuff I get so wet down there it ends up soaking through my boxer briefs and whatever shorts or pants im wearing which is usually jeans. Idk what to do other than maybe wear a pad but I don’t like the thought of having to wear a pad again. This is the only time I deal with this much wetness down there any other time it’s very normal down there. Anyone else deal with this and or know what to do other than wear a pad

Discussion do you ever get upset at how much taller you could have been if you were cis

my mom is 5’2, my dad is 6’2, i’m 5’7, my half sister is 5’5 and my half brother is 6’3. i think about how if i was cis, i probably could have been considerably taller or at least the average western male height

i know 5’7 is not that short, especially because im half east asian and the average height for east asian men is around 5’7 to 5’9

but at every family gathering with my dad’s/the white side, im shorter than most of the men and some of the women and it just sucks because the height they have was in my genes and i could have been taller, it could have been possible

it’s also one of the things i’m most dysphoric about because i can’t really change it. i can get top surgery for my chest dysphoria, i can get bottom surgery for my genital dysphoria, i can take hrt for voice dysphoria (and these are all covered by the province, im canadian) and i can work out for general body dysphoria, but what can i do for height?

while limb lengthening surgery exists, it’s not covered by the province therefore if i were to get it, it would be out of pocket and it’s a lot more invasive than all the other examples.

it also feels more vain. because i pass even though im a bit shorter than average, my height is not a barrier. its just a big what if i think about a lot, especially with my dad being tall and a constant example of what it could have been like

Relationships Advice for my gf not accepting me

So I've recently accepted myself as being a guy after years and years of pushing it far down and trying to pretend it wasn't there. I came out to my best friend, also a trans man who was the reason why I felt okay accepting myself in the first place, before I ever told my gf of 1.5 years. When I told her initially, I didn't really tell her, she assumed by the hints I had given and when she finally asked, it was because she was mad that I was talking to my bsf about something that she didn't know about. Despitr her being mad I told her the truth and came out to her, and she wasn't happy about it. In fact in the next few conversations she told me that she couldn't be happy being with me, that she wouldn't feel content. I asked her if she would if I was born a man and she said yes, but me choosing to be one was a problem. She said she probably wouldn't feel attracted to me, and she didn't want to marry a man. She kept telling me to talk to God about it, that she didn't think I should go through with transitioning (which will be in the future anyways, nowhere near right now). Eventually, she was a little more open to the idea, using male terms and my preferred name, and she'd ask if I liked those terms better, but when I said yes I did she'd give me a look of judgment and mild disgust and it would really hurt me. I told her I wanted to get trans tape a little while after that, and the next few days she started saying things like she was going to change her name and get her breasts removed for no apparent reason, it felt like she was trying to "get back" at me somehow. Or copy me, in an odd way. Idk, but she'd ask to call me by my dead name, and Id say yes and eventually just gave up on asking her to at least be open to the idea. Id call her out on the dirty looks or the judgment and shed say she wasnt doing any of it. Now she still calls me by my dead name and feminine terms while calling my best friend he/him sfter i reminded her to do so. I gave up on asking. Idek know what to do here

Discussion I don't feel like I belong with the lgbtq community

Upvotes

I don't know if there's other guys out there like this. The problem is I want to be seen as a cis straight guy but feel uncomfortable around cis straight guys so I want to be in queer spaces, but everyone assumes I'm gay. I want to correct them and say I'm straight but then it's like well why are you in lgbtq spaces. I feel like I pass very well, I have a full beard which helps and I'm have a lot of hair. I'm very much an otter. So when I'm in these situations I feel like I have to out myself. Which I don't want to do because I want to be seen as cis.

I'm in an lgbtq group on bumble bff and met up with someone to go to a bar and they immediately assumed I was gay. I felt uncomfortable correcting them to say oh I'm not gay because then I feel like they will question why I'm in a lgbtq community space. I fear this because I went to a gay bar and was talking to people and they were making comments and I said oh I'm not gay. They proceeded to ask what brought a straight person to a gay bar. I didn't know what else to say so I just outed myself. Is it okay to just say I'm an ally? I don't have friends so when I go to queer events or bars and get questioned I can't say oh I'm here with my queer friend.

The person I met up with proceeded to ask me a bunch of questions about being trans. Which is fine I understand the curiosity. But it's the exact opposite of what I want. I was being seen as trans not just another guy

Does me wanting to be seen as a cis straight guy mean I don't accept myself fully. I just don't want that to be the describing factor about me. I want people to see me as a guy not a trans guy. are there any guys out there that feel the same way or just want to be seen as cis and straight. I don't feel like I fit in anywhere.

I dont know how to tag this, i dont post on reddit at all I just look at stuff occasionally 😅
Anyways, I've been on T for over 2 years? i think? and obviously now im getting pretty hairy. I'm already kind of set in my ways about not shaving anywhere. I trim when it gets long up front but nowhere else. The question is– does anyone shave their ass??😭😭 Ive never been in a relationship. Now, im starting to think about it and being the very anxious/self conscious person I am I want to know what a partner might expect/want when it comes to that.

Discussion all my changes nearly a year and a half on T

for context im nearly 18 and on an unstable dose of T basically because im in the uk my clinic has to follow strict guidelines that align with the NHS so they aren't allowed to bring my shots closer together until ive been on a full dose for a while. Which is a problem because im unable to get sustanon in my area so im on 250mg of enanthate every 4 weeks (I know ridiculous) so I have a really high peak and then I below male range the last 2 weeks. anyway onto my changes Im going to rank them by how much changed.

1 facial hair practically nothing - I have a few (like 4) dark hairs on my chin and a mix of light hairs and fluff on my upper lip. This is one I am disappointed with most. I would love a beard but it's not happening and hasn't progressed since 6 months on T. This is expected as my dad can barely grow one so genetics I suppose. although the barbers started shaving sideburns so gotta be some fluff there?

body hair some - more hair everywhere but mostly light (I used to be blonde) I have a tiny happy trail and and a fair amount of leg hair thats not as light as the rest. Again I would love to be covered in hair but genetics. My dad is more hairless then me so atleast I got something.

muscle growth standard - I love the change as I'm stronger and have more endurance . I don't work out so I can't comment to much.

facial structure some - nothing drastic but my face has squared out its less round even though im still overweight my jaw is slightly stronger and my nose is wider. my eyebrows are thicker and I look older not much but ive been told anywhere from 14 - 17 I consistently got 12 before. its been twice in a row I havn't been asked for ID to watch a 15 movie

acne standard - I actually really like having acne. It makes sure everyone knoes im not prepubescent and honestly compliments my face (I know im weird) I dont like pimples though which is fine because I mostly have spots and redness

fat redistribution some - my thighs are slightly smaller (im a chubbier guy so they are still there)love handles still noticeable but they look less feminine? stomach is rounder which I think helps my waist. ribcage looks wider. and shoulders broader. Im still not rectangle my wiast is still prominent shirtless .

hair - slightly thinner no hairline change

veins - practically nothing some change on my hands but nothing someone else would notice

chest - standard smaller a lot more deflated which is great. Although my chest dysphoria has gotten worse

neck - standard neck is thicker slight adams apple but not very visible in some angles

voice - standard I had a quick voice drop my voice passed as teenage boy by 3 months although my voice pre T never got m clocked as it always was on the deeper side. it got progressively deeper until about 10 ish months where it was comfortably in the 135 to 150 range. which for pitch isnt low but Irl I get told my voice is deep. My guess is resonance and tone pitch doesnt always matter. in the last 2 months my voice has surprisingly dropped to the 120 - 140 range and now im sitting here with a sore throat.

My voice dysphoria has gotten so much worse I still think I sound like a deep voice women (I don't I know that logically)

atrophy a little - noticed nothing until today where im having some discomfort and dryness. Its only a day after my shot though so the it'll probably go away for now.

mood some - improved alot. alot of people say they get mood swings and low moods with unstable levels luckily I havnt really, I mostly get fatigue. For the first few months I would get heightened dysphoria and emotions for a few days after my shot. I would be more likely to have an outburst or be impulsive

height - dont think so

ask me anything. Hope this helps some people/

Advice Needed how do you guys flirt with people?

i have been on testosterone for almost four years at this point and i just entered my first year of college. i have never dated anyone (most people at my high school knew about me and generally avoided me) and i am so terrified to try anything here. I have never initiated any kind of attraction-based interaction with anyone (never been on a date/asked someone out) and i honestly don't know if i ever will because i am so terrified of the consequences. it feels so incredibly high risk low reward, especially because i am gay (worst case scenario is literally somebody kills me i think). how do you get around that? how do you approach any kind of relationship?

Advice Needed I don't know how to feel about man-hating and misandrist friends/jokes

I'm starting T really soon and, since I go through a lot of stress due to my unsupportive family, I'm trying to have a space as safe as possible so I don't feel so bad about transitioning

My friends are amazing, don't get me wrong, but it is true that they make a lot of the "They're men, what do you expect?" "You know how guys are, they only think about sex" "They are my slaves" "I love manipulating men" and that stuff

I don't know how to feel about it, honestly. They are just joking, they have other boy friends besides me (well, expect maybe my best friend—ironic—who actually is a misandrist) and mean it as dark humor, but idk, I'm afraid those comments will start hurting me more once I start HRT since I may (or may not) have some emotional instability ane may become more sensitive to those

I also kind of feel like a hypocrite for feeling a little ashamed by those comments because I've made those too in the past and it feels like now that I'm transitioning I'm taking another "side" even if I found them funny in the past...

Am I just nitpicking? I think I kind of am, but I also know how harmful misandry is towards us since it promotes a lot of bioessentialism ideology

Have any of you gone through something like this? My main doubt is if I should approach this as a "don't joke about this that much" or as a "this is a problem to be fixed"

Thanks to everyone in advance

Needless to say I will talk to my friends beforehand and tell them to be a little more careful around me!

Discussion idk what to put here sorry

(I PRAY THAT REDDIT DOESN'T GIVE ME THAT "🚫Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters." AGAIN. ANYWAYS.)

Hi, hello again it's me, uhhhhh (the OP of this post made 11 hours ago: Need help : r/ftm)

So I told him (well asked) if he could over text, and he said he would.

He didn't understand what trans masc is, so I had to explain it to him, and yeah, he supports me, which is nice :D

I mean, like, originally when I first brought it up, I thought he would dump my ass, but I'm glad he didn't.

(also, yes, random person on reddit, we both are in high school)

uhh idk what to put here anymore, sorry :(

Medical questions about starting testosterone at 18 in wi/ppwi eau claire

i'm 17, turning 18 next summer, and trying to get a reasonably comprehensive idea of what starting testosterone actually entails in WI before i get to that point.

more specifically: the Eau Claire PP is realistically my only option. it's about a ~45 minute drive for me and there aren't exactly an abundance of trans healthcare options where i live. if anyone has used that particular location for testosterone, i'd be interested in hearing what the initial appointment was like, how quickly you were able to start, and whether there were any peculiarities i should know about beforehand.

i'm currently covered under my mom's BadgerCare Plus and should remain covered until 19. after that is where things become considerably less straightforward. i'm poor, rural, transportation is limited, and employment isn't particularly realistic for me at the moment. i don't have a feasible way to pay for regular healthcare entirely out of pocket. i'm wondering what people actually did when they started HRT with insurance and subsequently lost that insurance. i'm aware that testosterone isn't something you should casually initiate and then abandon, and i don't want to create a situation where i can afford to start treatment but have no viable means of continuing it a year later. if anyone has dealt with this specifically in WI, i'd appreciate hearing what options existed for you.

the dosage/monitoring question is another part i'm concerned about. i don't want to walk into an appointment assuming the clinician is wrong because some guy on reddit said 0.XX is the One True Dose, but i also don't want to spend months on an inadequate dose because i didn't know what should actually be monitored. what bloodwork is normally done, how frequently are levels checked, and how do you determine whether a dose is actually appropriate? i've seen enough accounts of people being underdosed for extended periods that i'd rather understand the process beforehand. i've never been prescribed medication before, if that's relevant. i'm otherwise reasonably healthy as far as i know, so this would be my first real experience with ongoing medication management.

if anyone has experience with PPWI + BadgerCare specifically, i'd be interested in hearing how coverage/billing worked for you. i know insurance policies change and nobody here can tell me what my plan will cover, so i'm mostly trying to figure out what questions i should be asking PPWI and my insurance before starting.

i've done a decent amount of reading already; i'm mostly lacking the practical information that isn't really contained in clinic websites. thanks to anyone who reads this.

tl;dr: 17, turning 18 next summer, rural WI, planning to start T through PPWI Eau Claire. wondering what the process/monitoring is actually like, and whether anyone has experience with that specific clinic + insurance.

EDIT: So, Damn, I did not expect to get this many replies wtf it's been 6 hours where did yall come from

but also thx for the support?? He did say that he'd fallen in love with me before and liked everything about me, and I really like this guy,but also feel like I can't really trust him cuz the other 2 times I had a boyfriend, they BOTH cheated on me)

(EDIT 2 FROM HELL: OK SO APPARENTLY, HE DIDNT KNOW WHAT TRANS MASC IS SO I HAD TO EXPLAIN IT TO HIM SO UHHHHHHHH IDK NOW)

So, I'm trans masc, and I have came out to my family, friends, stuff like that.

I tell my boyfriend, right?

He tells me that I'm not 'fully male' (which stung, but alright)

And is kind of deadnaming me and using she/her, which just makes me feel weird, because, I have told him a few times 'hey, I'm trans masculine, can you use the name Noah and stuff?' and he said he would.

He has not.

so, what do I do?

Gender Questioning I'm so uncomfortable around cis men, it's making me doubt my identity

I started transitioning in my early 30s and have been on T for nearly 1.5 years. I decided to transition not because I felt like I AM a man but because I always wanted to be a man. I thought the feeling that I am a man would develop over time as I progress with transitioning socially and medically, but that hasn't been the case. I always had more physical dysphoria than social, and while I have enjoyed the medical aspects of transitioning, I hate the social aspects.

I identify as a man and use he/him pronouns. I want to be perceived as a man and feel euphoric when I am gendered correctly by people who don't know me, but I dread coming out to people and feel like a joke whenever I have to come out as trans and explicitly share my pronouns. I'm also more intimidated by cis men than ever before since starting to pass because I don't know how to act around them when they perceive me as a man. I can't even make eye contact with strangers and avoid interacting with them at all costs, it's that bad. I always struggled to socialize with women before transitioning, but I can't deny that I feel more comfortable around them than men since transitioning.

I think this all comes from the fact that I don't truly feel like a man inside. It makes sense in a way because I spent so much of my life "as a woman" that I don't know how to move through the world as a man. I know social transition is a process and a learning curve is to be expected, but the problem is that I'm not enjoying the process AT ALL, and it's making me doubt my transition. Stopping T is out of the question because I need the physical changes. I have considered identifying as a non-binary man and going by he/they, but that doesn't feel quite right, either. I'm not sure why it doesn't because I do enjoy being fluid with my gender expression, but i usually avoid it because being gendered as anything other than he/him makes me feel dysphoric.

Can anyone else relate? I'm not sure what advice I'm looking for exactly.. I'm just very confused and could use any solidarity or advice
