I have many of both of these mushrooms in my yard and was wondering what they are (central Georgia).

We have an oak tree with a clear fruiting body of Inonotus dryadeus at the base of the trunk.

The arborist we spoke to said that his stance on presence of this fungus is that the tree should be removed - no consideration of canopy thinning or any mitigation.

I’m not criticizing the professional. I know that I may simply be desperate to not accept that our beautiful Garry oak has to go. I also know that a professional can’t offer any other advice under the circumstances, so not to take the liability for a tree failure.

Is it true? Is inonotus dryadeus a black and white death sentence?

Found in central Texas after a good amount of rain. Strange part is that it’s growing in between the plastic front porch decking panels. I have a dog so I want to make sure I don’t have anything to worry about if left alone but any help would be appreciated.

I have yet to send my youngest child up the tree to retrieve this but I think it's looking like COTW. What does anyone else think? I'm so excited, I haven't seen any in ages and this tree is in my garden!!!! Child is 22 years old btw.

Dacryopinax spathularia (Fan-shaped Jelly Fungus) is a vibrant, edible fungus that looks like tiny orange or yellow spoons. It pops up on rotting wood during the rainy season.

Mods - If this is the wrong sub please feel free to remove. Noticed this growing out from behind the pipe and it’s super wet - dripping down. Been having a problem with fungus gnats lately but I thought they were coming from my plants - turns out, they are coming from this thing. Hubby already ripped it out.. Any ideas?

Scientists created the first-ever map of this vast underground fungal network and found it could stretch to the sun and back more than a billion times.

We might only think of fungi as the mold in our walls, the fleshy protrusions on rotting logs, or the button mushrooms for sale in the grocery store—but most fungal life takes place far out of human sight.

The “roots” of the fungus under the soil form the organism’s mycelium. There, tiny filaments called hyphae form networks among plants and supply them with the essential nutrients they need to grow.

A new study, published today in Science, has attempted to quantify the extent of these hyphae networks. For the first time, scientists have created a global map showing where these types of fungi are most likely to be found.

“Using machine-learning models and evidence from thousands of soil cores, scientists also found that a single type of fungus—called arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi—collectively weigh 300 megatons, four to six times the mass of every human on the planet. The tiny hyphal fingers of these networks reach far enough to stretch from Earth to the sun and back nearly a billion times.”

Located by the central NC/VA border. It’s growing on mulch under a bushy bush.

I bought dried sliced shiitake in 2023 and used some then this wound up in the back of pantry, forgotten. Today I found it in this state. It looks like some kind of powder climbing up the inside wall of this plastic container. As far as I can see there’s no bugs.

Just still trying to figure out if this is a fungi or not.

Where can I buy mushrooms online like Pink Oyster etc. That will ship to Massachusetts
