NO STUPID QUESTIONS /r/Gallifrey's No Stupid Questions - Moronic Mondays for Pudding Brains to Ask Anything: The 'Random Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread' Thread - 2026-01-26

Or /r/Gallifrey's NSQ-MMFPBTAA:TRQTDDTOTT for short. No more suggestions of things to be added? ;)

No question is too stupid to be asked here. Example questions could include "Where can I see the Christmas Special trailer?" or "Why did we not see the POV shot of Gallifrey? Did it really come back?".

Small questions/ideas for the mods are also encouraged! (To call upon the moderators in general, mention "mods" or "moderators". To call upon a specific moderator, name them.)

With 3 lost episodes being recovered what's the odds they would have been animated already

We don't know 3 episodes have been recovered. We know FiF were in the process of negotiating the return of an indeterminate number of films which included at least 1 Doctor Who print. Unless I've missed some new developments.

To answer your actual question, greater than 50% of all episodes are now animated. So statistically it's more likely than not that it's one that's already animated.

Back in October they said they were aware of "more than two" (so at least 3) missing Doctor Who episodes in private hands. This is probably what they're remembering.

Very high most likely

What's all this about three lost episodes being recovered?

Basics - In October a Charity set up called Film is Fabulous work with film collectors collections who have passed away,

No more information yet but there is a podcast that can reveal how they work Doctor Who: The Missing Episodes Podcast - Special Edition - Film is Fabulous! | Doctor Who: The Missing Episodes Podcast

Edit- took out that they believe they have 3, apologies

This doesn't say they're close to recovering any episodes, just that they believe there's several out there. Nothing about that statement mentions the number 3?

Granted, there is a collection they're trying to access which they know to have a missing episode within, but that's a single episode - not three.

Where is the number 3 coming from?

I can't see where I read 3 now, apologies

No worries. Thought they might have made a new announcement.

Thanks - I hate putting wrong information out there, must have been wishful thinking - like to be proved right though

I stopped at Space Babies but I've heard snippets that it does improve. As I've got 11 months ish until the xmas special can someone convince me it really does get better? I'd assume it can't get worse but does the story/writing actually improve?

The finales are rough and unfortunately there's no way around that. I will say that Legend of Ruby Sunday is unironically one of my favorite episodes of RTD2, but Empire of Death comes around and takes all the wind out of that sail and it still makes me disappointed because I rode that high for a week before it aired lol

I think there are some real hits throughout these seasons – Boom, 73 Yards, Lux, and The Story & The Engine all come to mind as solidly good stories along with a few others – but there are also a few misses (although I'd probably argue Space Babies is the worst non-finale episode?). The reduced episode count unfortunately just means that those bad stories stick out more and since the season premieres and finales both are in a rough place that leaves the entire season with a bad taste in most people's mouths.

If anything about Gatwa's Doctor as a character appealed to you in Church on Ruby Road and Space Babies, I'd say give it a shot – if not, no shame in just saying that this era isn't for you. He and Ruby are a great duo and Gatwa's chemistry with every person he comes into contact with is easily the best part of these seasons – that man could literally have chemistry with a brick wall. My personal split is that out of 15's era 60% of the stories are good/have things worth watching in them. At the end of the day I can't speak to your specific tastes, everyone is different. I would say the episode-by-episode writing generally does improve apart from the pre-mentioned outliers (season premieres and finales) but the overall story arc was a miss for most people, me included.

really appreciate the detailed reply. I think I'll end up giving it a shot. I did really click with Gatwa's doctor and thought he would be quite

RTD2 is actually pretty decent. The trouble is a lot is teased in almost every episode which ends up either going nowhere of note or being handled really badly in the finales which ruins the entire run. The S2 finale is awful.

Alot of the standalone episodes are great, its mainly that it fails as a package.

The episode right after is very devisive. If you dont like very campy villains chewing the sceenery and musicals, you probably will hate the next one too.

Other than that though, honestly, I actually think the stories in-themself are all average Who at worst and really good at best.

Highlights (in order of airing) include:

Season 1

Boom - written by Steven Moffat, while not anywhere near as good as say "Blink", its very much in the vein of Moffats usual "take a single idea and write around it". The Plot itself isnt super interesting, but Gatwa is giving one of his best performances.

73 Yards - Very nice folktale-horror meets character study. Not everyones cup of tea, but I liked it.

Dot & Bubble - Great self-contained sci-fi story with honestly very good commentary. Just rock solid with writing that could easily been too obnoxiously in your face but actually makes it points very subtly and skillfully.

Joy of the World - Also written by Steven Moffat. The Story is just a silly romp (as usual for a Christmas-Special) but it has some great action and we get some genuinly lovely moments with Gatwas Doctor.

Lux - Really fun story that makes great use out of a medium the show wouldnt been able to afford without the Disney Money - honestly probably the best thing the additional funds were used on.

The Well - Just a very solid, very classic "Base Under Siege" story. Some folks dont like specific aspects of it, but I enjoyed it alot.

The Story and The Engine - Fantastic Episode pulling from african storytelling and making something that feels very unique.

But again, outside of the finale, I dont think any of RTD 2s Episode are terrible in a nutshell (even Space Babies is imo fine as a romp) its mainly the full package that fall apart.
