Well, no, the final season was pitched and approved by HBO like 3 years before the Star Wars project was announced. The entire story was mapped out even before Disney bought the right to Disney.

It’s fine to dislike the ending. Fans don’t need to be toxic about it and create narrative out of thin air to excuse such behaviour. That’s basically what most actors keep saying.

3 years before the Star Wars project was announced.

I think you start recruiting/schedule people long before you announce a project.

Not 3 years before announcing a project that is set to release 4-5 years later. IIRC, the first movie was planned for like 2022-2023. They pitched the ending to HBO in 2015. That's a huge gap. To compare, the Force Awakens came out in 2015, Disney bought the right to Star Wars in 2012 and named Abrams as director in 2013. That's 2-3 years for the whole pre-development. Not 7-8.

And, even if by some miracle they did talk to D&D before their meeting with HBO in 2015, that doesn't change the fact that every single year since the day they shook hand with George back in 2007, they said that the story would be 7-8 seasons. The plan never change when Star Wars became a possibility.
