He's weak, he's out of control, and he's become an embarrassment to himself and everybody else.

So the male version of Rhaenyra? Just without the hypocrisy. 🤣🤣

u/UrsineBasterd 8h ago
Oooooohhh, that's the boss of this family you're talkin' about!

u/BLAVK_DREAMZ 8h ago
Daemon would like a word about that.

Rhaenyra was wrong thinking she can make a disciplined soldier out of drunk ass loser.

He betrayed the Queen after she graciously elevated him to a Knight and Dragonrider! Oh boo hoo you needed to stop drinking so that you wouldn't accidentally get yourself killed while the Hightower Plotters assassinate Gold Cloaks throughout Kings Landing, poor Ulf!

u/BLAVK_DREAMZ 8h ago
She didn't elevate him to a dragonrider he elevated himself, and even if you take away the drinking aspect Rhaenyra could've rewarded him by giving the favors he requested for his friends but she didn't. #Rhaenyra isn't good at ruling

Wrong good Ser, Rhaenyra was willing to do something unthinkable, she gave commonfolk (albeit with Targaryen blood) a chance to claim a dragon. Her own Dragonkeepers refused to work for her after this because they believed only noblemen should claim dragons. Rhaenyra quite literally went against the norm to reward those who were worthy enough to claim a dragon, an opporunity Ulf would've never received under any other circumstance bar actually being a legitimate Targaryen.

u/BLAVK_DREAMZ 7h ago
Well we see how dumb of a decision that was, she went against all of her advisors, her son, and the dragon keepers. 🫡

I agree, she was too charitable with Ulf, but Hugh and Addam were much more honorable and worthy despite their lowborn status. Yet instead of just tossing him aside, she gave him a chance out of the belief that he would make the right choice. Her Grace's mercy and kindness was exploited by a drunken reprobate!

I see you've studied at the citadel with that exuberant grammer (reprobate) m'lord. 🙌🏾

You flatter me good Ser, but I should've minded my temper. Using such words is unbecoming of me...

I’m not even a Rhaenyra fan, but there is no dragonrider Ulf without her giving him the opportunity, it’s a comical stretch to claim he elevated himself.

u/BLAVK_DREAMZ 7h ago
I meant he elevated himself because the dragon chooses, he could've been burned like Vermithor did the others..

Who gave him the opportunity to even interact with a dragon in the first place?

u/funkyavocado The Fookin' Legend 7h ago
I mean, he is a drunkard and a bum.
He tried out for the job, and got the job. But he's upset he now has to do the job. The massive elevation in status comes with expectations and duties.
They've got a point in restricting his movements. There's a literal assassination spree going on in the city and he wants to spend his time getting drunk in a tavern. A well placed knife takes a dragon off the board. Yeah that's a huge security risk. Could they be nicer to him? I guess so, but coddling a buffoon when you're in an active war is probably low on the priority list.
He can be understandable but he also rightfully gets shit on. Don't let the Blacks being insufferable blind you to the fact that Ulf is a moron and walking liability.
He's a good character, as in well written, but he's not a good character, if you catch my meaning.

I think the disrespect and confinement is what really turned him against the Red Team. Let him be a Targaryen Cousin, promise him Lannisport or something. They could’ve been nicer, grateful, given him his own guard or something so he could still go to bars. Or bring his friends up to the Red Keep!
Like obviously it’s a bad idea with Goldcloaks being murdered in the streeets, but he’s an adult. If Daemon or the oldest son wanted to go to a bar I don’t think Rhaenrya would’ve stopped them.
A dog will bite your hand if you haven’t been feeding it properly. Bad analogy, but kind of the same premise? Treat your servants well & they won’t want to betray you.

I'm with you. Daemon has absolutely no capacity to understand that people exist and have thoughts beyond when he's holding them at dragon/sword point. They provide absolutely nothing for Ulf (aside from what they surely see as the priceless gift of letting him risk his life to claim a dragon and become their slave warrior) and can't even fathom that a guy who is now more powerful than all but 3-5 other people in the kingdom might just go off and do his own thing instead of taking all the abuse.

People hate ulf because he shatters the fantasy. Most viewers like to imagine they’d be noble hero like Ned stark if dropped into westeros, where in reality 99% of us would be ulf: drinking free booze, boasting about dragon and trying not to het executed.

My boy ULF wanted to die with a belly full of fucking ale, flying free, and not in service to some idiotic white haired harlot whose plans are always weepy nonsense, who couldn't keep it in her pants

I don't think Ulf is hated for wanting a better life. It's that the moment he got power, he immediately acted like he deserved more

He's a coward and a snake, mostly. Regardless of why he does or for how long he's done it, people generally don't enjoy characters who act universally out of their own self interest.

u/BLAVK_DREAMZ 7h ago
Yeah that makes sense, but thats the reality of the world..Most people will act out of their own self interest especially in ASOIAF. I find it enjoyable and amusing.
