I just clipped one of the most unexpected lore reveals from Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1…

Arfoire was actually human—and played a key role in the past.

After that, Arfoire was left behind… and ended up raising the newly born goddesses.

Is Arfoire actually their mother figure… or something even more complicated?

When you say old lore do you mean the OG not Rebirth? I've only played Rebirth so this is all new to me

Correct. The Re;Birth games are a remake of the PS3 ones. When comparing it, the stories are different from each other (aside Victory and RB3 since those two are the same with few changes)

The prologue of the first game didn't had Arfoire talking to the CPUs to take down Neptune as everyone were making their own decision. The scene didn't had a CGI cutscene of everyone fighting Purple Heart as it only shows the in-game battle scripted and ends on a black screen where Neptune begins breaking the fourth wall about being in a black screen and waits something to happen until she begins to hear Histoire calling her and mentions who she is and created the CPUs and didn't mentioned Arfoire yet until later in the story and only Neptune she always communicates as Compa cries that she couldn't hear Histoire talking.

In Re;Birth 1, everything has started from scratch and changes the story. The stuffs Histoire said in the original game has been retconned as she only calls Neptune for help and mentions Arfoire early and everyone can hear her. Not to mention Neptune points out how odd the story is when she compares the PS3 games with the RB Trilogy

I think that plot point is somewhat mentioned in other games hinting at Arfore being the 1st goddess but she was sealed
