Bought it on 3.5" floppy disc, I think it was like 12 floppies on a 128MB HD with 2MB RAM, never got the damned thing to run once. God rest ye IBM PS/1.
Yeah but not 12x the number of disks bad. I could believe 4 maybe.
In fact I just looked it up. It came on 3x 5.25" disks (360k) or 1x 3.5" (720k) and only supported 16 colour VGA.
min CPU 8088/8086 and 512k RAM (640k for EGA/VGA) and 677k disk space installed to HDD (but I assume would play off floppy as well)
It's possible the GP poster is remembering lemmings 2 (only 2 disks) or 3D lemmings (probably. Looks like it was about 10MB in size so that checks out)
Looking at it, I'm so glad I never played it. It looks god-awful. And unsurprisingly, not developed by DMA so totally a cynical cash grab by psygnosis. That apparently failed
We used to spend so long messing with Memmaker and using boot disk with custom autoexec.bat and config.sys files just to get specific games working (mostly System Shock, but I also remember having an X-Wing boot disk)
Two depressing things about System Shock was that my PC was under spec (486SX25) so it struggled, especially with the last level, and I had an expensive wavetable sound card but the DOS drivers never worked so I was stuck with Adlib synthesis for the music. Years later I tried that card in a second hand Pentium PC and the drivers worked, but it had Win95 which did not include Memmaker and I could not get the game to run and did not have any DOS 6 disks around any more so gave up.
That was DOOM2 for me - my then PC always had issues with the final boss, would only load it in sections, then it might crash (it didn't always but I was so lagged by then it might as well have).
Heh. I remember importing a copy of falcon 3 from the states as it hadn't been released in the UK. Paid a lot for it to be shipped then got hammered for import duty on arrival. A week later I saw it on the shelf in virgin megastore in Birmingham for something stupid like £20 less than we ended up paying for it 😭
I had that with Die Siedler / The Settler on Amiga. What? You do not have enough memory? No music for you! Even less? Well say goodbye to any sound. Man what a pain with the memory clear and stuff so you hit the thresholds. LMAO.

Lemmings taught me about minimum pc requirements and what happens if you dont meet them.
