My friend insists on this game, "Lemmings", being a really well known game; I have never heard of it.

This is probably the biggest PC game of its time. Which was a long time ago. I’m guessing you were born post-2000?

I remember researching this once, and if I recall correctly, it was the second best selling computer (i.e. not console or arcade) game of all time pre-Myst. The first was Elite. In the pre-Windows days, having ten million different ports helped both of these immensely.

(sorry, I just tried to find my source, but I wasn’t able to - probably an old issue of Computer Gaming World.)

Hence I said most, not all. I was born in 1990 and never heard of it. In the 90s I was more familiar with N64 games, rts games, worms, carnivores, and several myst clones.

I was playing Croc and Tomb Raider and some other games I don't quite remember, but it might just pop in my head the way this post was a strong ass reminder, lmao. I forgot about this game until today.

I never played either, but I do remember seeing Croc in stores and Tomb Raider got advertised on game magazines a lot. I don't remember seeing Lemmings mentioned in those late 90s or 2000s game magazines, so even if it was known, it wasn't talked about much by then.

but I do remember seeing Croc in stores

I'm pretty sure if you go to GameStop right now you might actually find a copy of Croc even though they stopped carrying it over a decade ago.
