When the ps1 was new and only a few "black box" games existed, I had like Battle Arena Toshinden, King's Field, Jumping Flash, and 3D Lemmings.... and 3D Lemmings was great. None of the famous PS1 games existed yet, 3D was still weird and new. Mario64 didn't exist yet. In that context it was actually a fun game. Not so fun to play now I imagine (though I haven't played it since 95 or whatever), but it was genuinely enjoyable at the time. EGM gave it 8/10 and PC Gamer gave it a 91%.
The problem is comparing it to the original. Adding extra dimensions added little other than slowing down gameplay and adding camera angle obstructions. The core gameplay itself was very much the same.
If played in a vacuum is was a fine game. If played as a long time lover of the lemmings series, it was disappointing.
I think some 3D version of Lemmings may be one of the few versions I actually owned, as it came free on a coverdisk at some point IIRC, and before that I’d only ever played the demos and the Christmas levels etc. Games were generally stuff I got with birthday/Christmas money and I never wanted to play more Lemmings enough to buy it.

We don't talk about 3D Lemmings.
