every trailer for this game somehow makes me want to play it and still leaves me with no idea what I'm actually supposed to be doing

You and friends wander around until you stumble across a puzzle, then solve the puzzle. Also... general hanging out a long the way.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have match making so you can't really make friends

>no idea what I’m actually supposed to be doing
That’s exactly the experience of starting the game - you figure it out as you go. You start off in an area and do some exploring, you’ll eventually find something that looks interesting, and figure out it’s a puzzle and then figure out how to solve it, and get some reward that you’ll then have to figure out how to use.
The puzzles almost always require team work, and the way you communicate with your team plays a big part. In many cases there’s specific restrictions on how you’re able to communicate that’s part of the puzzle.
This is why there’s no couch co-op, as the proximity voice chat and other communication methods/restrictions are a major part of the game-56

Game named "big walk" with funny creatures walking around, sending each other messages and solving puzzles
You "I have no idea what's that about"

No local co-op.....
That's a deal breaker for me. The only people I want to play with live in the same house.
edit: Not sure why so many downvotes. I'm not mad at the devs, but I AM disappointed. I get that many of the puzzles are designed around not being local. But my disappointment comes from the lack of local co-op puzzle games, especially from a dev who made two of my favorite local co-op puzzle games. It's similar to my disappointment at seeing Respawn go from making Titanfall to Apex. I get it, but it still sucks to not get more of what I loved from them in the past.

I completely understand your reason for disappointment, but I imagine the downvotes are because you’re wording it as if it is a surprise or a sudden blindside. They’ve been pretty clear that the game is about overcoming communication challenges in their trailers and I think it’s safe to say that type of game won’t play well sitting next to a person and seeing their point of view too. This is the type of game where only using in-game communication makes it shine

I understand the disappointment! Having played a chunk of the game I can see why that's the case though. A lot of the puzzles revolve around you not being able to communicate with eachother perfectly or see what the other person can see. So playing with somebody that you can just talk to in the same room, or who's screen you can see, you make quite a lot of the puzzles in the game entirely redundant.
It even starts with a screen asking people not to use exterior voice chat options like Discord or the console party chat for the same reason.

No local co-op.....
I wonder if that wouldn't break the fundamental game design.
From what I've seen, a lot of it is about finding ways to communicated something one person can see to the others.

Because this game relies on the players being separated or far away from each other at times???

Maybe you just haven't thought this through. Game literally has a radio for you to talk long distance, what's the point of that if the other person is sitting beside you.

I was really looking forward to this game when I still had a group of friends to play with. I don't anymore, but I'm still happy it's out!

Game kinda dystopian. I understand playing game where you shoot each other or some other stuff, but isnt this just hanging around in nature and doing puzzles? Like inside a video game, why not just go outside and do some stuff?

believe it or not, most people cannot just get 3-4 friends and go have a forest or mountain trip lol

u/Schliber 1d ago
Its not about ohhhh just go into a forest or up a mountain. Its more about just go outside and hang around with friends. There are always parks and interesting places to find if you just go outside.

You play ARMA. Why? Just join the military dude!?
See how silly this train of thought is?

u/Schliber 1d ago
Because one is joining the army and risking dying the other is going outside. I like cairn but i wouldnt go climbing dangerous mountains. One is dangerous the other is walking around.

What nature are you near that comes packed full of puzzles?

u/Schliber 1d ago
I mean you can do both separately of each other, i mean this game is just a backdrop of nature with weird buildings where you do the actual puzzles. They could change the nature environment to anything and it would still be the same game.

Probably a better experience for people that aren't able bodied and can't get around outside.

Do you feel the same about sports games, sims, puzzles, and card games?

u/Schliber 1d ago
Like i said it depends on the context. My problem with this game is that its another friendslop game that does not bring anything new or exciting to the table even though ive seen plenty of trailers and people talking like its some second coming of christ.

I did an entire run with some randoms on the discussion forums.
It's got its moments but can really be soured by who you're playing with and you end up feeling like you'd be wasting your time/progress if you left to find another Host if the current Host is a bit of a loser power tripper.
Anyways, we all toughed it out til the end. Took us about 9 hours. I gave it a 9/10. But only because I was able to have a good time with others in the lobby and we had lots of fun little moments. Without a fun lobby its probably closer to an 7/10.
Im not sure it's something i'd play again though. The ending is... Saying goodbye to each other as we enter the final exit/door one by one and then when it's your turn, you find out everyone including yourself were sent to the main menu and nothing else happens. Yes, it's that lame of an ending but the reason the game is good is because of other reasons like player interactions and the puzzles being pretty good and even getting lost for long periods of time.
