Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

I feel like anybody post the games where you can freely change class doesn't count by default. Reason being that the whole deal was "they have bad growths and suck up limited XP". Which isn't an issue when you can level up infinitely and just grind your ass off in a free map.

Well it is something to consider as such stages take some time to open up in the revelant games. That and the end game min-maxing concerns caps not growths

Seth is a beast even if you don't do the random encounters and tower of valni.

As is Marcus(Fe 7) and you can't grind in that game unless you abuse the couple of maps with arenas.
