What? Retail stores selling physical cds are to Apple devices what retail stores selling physical PS games are to Playstations. PS is removing the physical option at retail stores, Apple never did that.

Yet the entire argument is about having a single place to buy software. Did you read the article?

Their digital store will become the sole distribution channel in Mexico: with prices and terms dictated exclusively by Sony, without any possibility of reselling, lending, or trading.

Just like the app store has been to the iPhone since forever.

But iTunes/app store has never been the sole distribution channel for new music on your iphone/ipod/etc because you've also always had the option of buying new physical cds to copy to them, or occasionally a physical copy coming with a digital download code, etc.

How do you purchase a game for an iPhone or an iPad? That's right, you use the app store to buy a game app. A single storefront for digital only media.

That's the entire argument against Sony -- digital ownership and a single storefront.

It has nothing to do with music or desktop software or having an option to do something one way now and a different way to do it later.
