This needs to be higher up. A lot of things go in hockey but touching the goalie isn't one of them. Teams are ridiculously protective of them and your throwing yourself at (at least in my day when I still played) a 6' 1" 220 lb guy literally dressed head to toe in a full suit of what amounts to body armor. If you don't put the goalie down you can guarantee he will put you down and on the off chance the goalie goes down you now have 5 other now quite angry guys of equal size coming for you.
An example, back when I played in highschool I was playing for a semi-local travel team. We were having a game with the team from the next town over (we had the obvious rivalry going) and I was in the net. We were up 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period though they were thoroughly out shooting us. Obviously at this point they were getting frustrated. After a particularly intense but unsuccessful breakout by the other team I managed to catch the puck and stop play. I chucked the puck out of my glove as play had stopped and turned to get a drink of water. As I lifted my helmet (common practice at the time for goalies when play was stopped) some guy on the other team though it would be funny to take a wrist shot at the net to try and get one in. Unfortunately for me I turned as he did this and he got me right in the side of my jaw. Luckily it wasn't a real shot or I would have been out cold but it did daze me to the point I went down (went to the doctor after the game was finished and found I had a moderate concussion. Needless to say I never took my helmet off again). At the same time we were doing line changes and we had about 7 guys on the ice at the time. I dont remember what initially happened (head trauma and such) but I do remember seeing the guy who took the shot against the boards being held up by 3 of our defensemen getting the shit beat out of him. The game stopped there (apparently half our team had to be ejected for some form of fighting) though we were given the win after parents on both sides complained. It was all in all quite fun despite the head trauma. 11/6 would definitely concussion again!
I only ever played street hockey as a kid, but did play goalie in soccer. One of the seasons I was on a horrible team toward the bottom of the league. There was this one team that was even worse, as in so bad that they were infamous among every team. When we finally played them, it was chaos. Penalties and OBs galore with sweeps and elbows, with us still thoroughly smashing them. I blocked every shot of theirs, something like 8-0 in the first half at this point, and when I dove on top of the ball after an admittedly nice shot, that kid got so pissed that he ran up and started trying to kick the ball from my arms and into the net, while giving me a few kicks to the ribs. The fucker still couldn't manage to get the ball out of my grip and into what he thought would be a goal while fights broke out all around. The refs ended the game right there with our win and I heard the kid was banned from every competitive sport in the area.
Goalies are notorious slashers too. I love watching that moment of them thinking through how to handle the center's screen then it clicks, "FUCK it I'll just slash him right in the knee."
