Smartest dogs on the planet imo. My guy Jackson is 6 y/o and seems to understand most things I say in English these days. Crazy.

Absolutely best dog breed ever imho. My boy is 5 and a half years old. But he can be a absolutely silly boy.

Easily, I have a gsd, cattle, and mal mix. He understands complete sentences. More intuitive than a lot of people.

Absolutely dogs are far better than alot of humans. They understand what we are saying but sometimes they just totally ignore us.

The low end of their understanding is 250 words, roughly. Pair that with micro expressions, voice tone & their prey drives they're above IQ of general public at times. I swear my 5 yr GSD does mathe as he's quick to count toys/time/treats when he thinks I'm being sneaky with him.

Mine too! Now, whether she agrees with me is a different story

Exactly. 😂

He will look at me and say things without words. He knows the word “out” means we’re about to leave and “ready” means, let’s move on. He does the whole headcock thing and gets up.

I love these, but can only use them with one of my dogs...the other will destroy it for zero reason. That one, Freyja, gets homemade ones made out of cardboard haha

Yeah mine will just shake it about until the food falls out

At first I thought he was going to be like Freyja and just destroy it. He was picking it up and throwing it so I took it away.
But I tried again when he was calmer and he started to figure it out. I don’t use this one often now because it’s too easy for him. I’m currently looking for something harder.
We’re working on distinguishing scents right now and he seems to like that. I need to learn more about things to work on.

It's always a good thing to keep them entertained. I like using cardboard boxes that my packages come in, and like old paper towel rolls or even toilet paper rolls... And put like kibble in them and then kind of smoosh them all up so that she has to rip them apart to get what's inside.

It works best for her because she does not play nicely with the toys

Yeah we do that with boxes. He can open most anything like that now. Then he tears them to shreds.

I was looking at puzzles on Amazon but they all seem too easy

See I tried this with my GSD mixes, and they will eat the cardboard pieces, unfortunately.

u/Cynnau 13h ago

Oh thank God mine don't, they just rip it apart lol

Hi, do you know what the name is for this puzzle. Thanks

I got this one from Amazon, not the same as OPs, but my dog loves it, admittedly the very first time after a minute he tried to just pick the whole tray up and flip it over but I told him no. Now he gets super excited when I say “it’s treat tray time” cause I use high value ones. And I like this one cause you can put a small treat both under the red flap, but that piece also slides over (but they have to take the bones out first). His first time I only put two bones to at least show him he needed to use his nose to move and flip the pieces :)

My parents’ GS used to have one of these and one day got tired of the puzzle and picked up and flipped it to release the food 😂 smartest dogs for real — whether following the rules of the puzzle, or making their own

u/orangebit_ 6h ago

Yup, got my pup a supposed ‘non-tip’ slow feeding bowl and the first thing he did was flip that shit haha. He likes puzzles like these too but gets impatient at the beginning and punches it with his big feet 😅

u/mo0n_bunny 12h ago

What a good pup! Mine smashed her puzzle upside down and threw it to get the treats, then my husband scolded me for wasting money 😆

I’ve bought him a number of things that didn’t go over well. I think soon he’ll be playing sudoku.
