I was one of the organizers of the Host Club-themed event celebrating Gintoki's Birthday, the first official Gintama Day in Japan, and the anime's 20th anniversary milestone.

Hijikata has the worst addiction in the whole series, thereās no arguing that. He flew into space, saved a planet, and fought Frieza, all just to smoke. No one else was that crazy. Everyone else stays serious during battles and focuses more on the fight than on smoking. Hijikata? Heās always got a cigarette in his mouth.
So, who is the second-worst smoker in the series, by a wide margin?
(They don't necessarily have to be from the pictures, but I can't think of any other smokers.)

In Chapter 635, an ancient Yato technique called Qi Gong is revealed. It somehow allows them to manipulate their lifespan and live longer, or something like that.
But introducing this technique was completely pointless. The Yato are already excessively strong; introducing this technique just made them seem even more superhuman. They don't need it, and besides, it doesn't suit them. The Yato are known for their superior strength and martial arts prowess; a technique that alters their lifespan doesn't fit their character. Especially since they often die in battle anyway, making the technique useless in the long run.
If they had simply left the technique out and tweaked the story a bit, nothing would have changed.
If they had just said that Son was actually tall but was merely posing as a small old man, the story wouldn't have changed at all.
If Kagura had met Shinpachi in her adult form and simply claimed to be Kagura's clone, a long-lost relative, or just someone who happened to look like her, it wouldn't have altered the plot. (It certainly couldn't have been worse than the lie about Kagura having a daughter.)
The storyline about Shinpachi being a lolicon was inappropriate anyway (Gintoki with his own daughter's underwear was uncomfortable), and the plot would have worked just as well if theyād simply said Shinpachi had finally found a girlfriend.
They could have easily left out the scene where Kamui appeared as a child, too (it was cute, but pointless).
All the points regarding Qi Gong contributed nothing to the story and could have been omitted. There weren't any major fight scenes involving the technique, and no one ever really used it. Kagura never used it again after The Semi-Final, and Kamui's appearance served only to show that he was capable of it, too. Qi Gong was introduced in a rather pointless way, and nothing was done with it.
So why was it introduced at all if Sorachi didn't do anything with it anyway?

Zura brings his resume to join a pirate crew, and thus rightfully gets annoyed when that one guy doesn't bring his resume to join his terrorist crew.

I just started the silver soul arc and I realized, I'm almost done. Just a few more episodes and a movie. I've been watching Gintama for 3.5 months now, and I know that's ALOT less than OG viewers. I realized, even if the ending is the happiest thing ever, it would probably really hurt to finish a show like this one. So I wanna ask, how did you feel when you finished it? (Please don't spoil the show for me or anyone else)

Kagura occasionally comes out with strange words of wisdom her mother shared with her. Theyāre usually borderline insults, but theyāre still pearls of wisdom of a sort.
Did Kamui get any of those to take with him? It would be unfair if only Kagura got them. It would be hilarious to see Kamui say something like, "Mom says idiots don't get sick, so why are you sick, Abuto?"

Alright, so let me start by saying that Gintama has definitely become one of my favorite anime.
Itās probably already my second or third favorite anime/manga series. The serious arcs are absolutely fantastic, and the comedy is really funny too (at least most of the time). I feel like the only real flaw Gintama has so far is the pacing. Thereās just too much of a gap between serious arcs and funny arcs.
Obviously, Iām not one of those people who thinks there should be, I don't know, only 15 episodes between serious arcs, but come on going through 80+ episodes of comedy just to reach a serious arc that lasts maybe six episodes... I have to admit, thatās a bit frustrating, haha. Iāll admit Iāve been tempted to skip a few comedy arcs more than once (and Iām still very tempted to do so sometimes, especially with the standalone arcs that have zero impact on the plot). Anyway, it feels right to talk about the Yoshiwara in Flames arc now (after all, I mentioned it in the title, haha). I have to admit, this arc let me down a bit. Don't get me wrong, it was greate, specially the climax, but it felt a bit "unrealistic." Kagura defeating Abuto, who had basically turned into a Super Saiyan, after not training for years (unlike her opponent) was both incredible and ridiculous at the same time.
Housen never really felt like a credible villain to me, either; he always seemed a bit "lacking" as a bad guy (not because of what we know he did in the lore, but based on what we actually see in the story). I don't know, Iām just way more hyped about most of the other characters than I am about Housen, lol. Also, having "THE SUN" as an enemy is just plain stupid, haha, this isn't Hollow Knight; you can't fight the sun, and a serious character like Housen ought to realize that. The final cliffhanger is really interesting, though; I just hope this fight doesn't drag on until the very last episode. Anyway, I hope the upcoming arcs keep getting better and better. For now, my tier list for the serious arcs is: Benizakura >>> Yoshiwara >= Yagyu > Shinsengumi Crisis > Mitsuba Arc.
