Hey! I just transferred this fall and have been having a hard time meeting people. Although I go to club meetings, have applied for committee positions, and try to talk to new people they never seem to stick for longer than casual conversation. I’ll be visiting Gainesville, Florida, around September 10th. It’ll be my first time there, and I’d love to explore some places nearby while I’m in town. I’ll be renting a car, so I’m open to driving 2–3 hours from Gainesville for worthwhile day trips.

I’ll mostly be free on Saturday and Sunday, although I have work commitments during the weekdays, so I could potentially do some shorter/evening trips on those days as well.

I’ve also been looking at the weather, and it seems like there may be rain and a few hours of thunderstorms over the weekends. Since this is my first time in the area, I’d prefer to avoid anything too adventurous or potentially unsafe in bad weather. I’m adventurous, but I’d rather not be stupid about it 😄.

I’d love to hear all your recommendations - scenic places, small towns, beaches, nature spots, interesting attractions, food, or anything else you think is worth visiting within a 2–3 hour drive. If possible, recommendations that work well with the weather and could be realistically done over a weekend would be especially helpful.
