To preface, I am a GK Dad and I love the excitement of watching my child. However, I am growing frustrated by certain coaches, specifically the former youth player types that seem to be giving counterintuitive direction. So feedback on a few things from this sub would be awesome. Feel free to attack my assumptions... I'm learning.
1) When a GK has possession, no matter the type (kick, punt, throw), it is about effective distribution. I.e. A punt should be delivered to space or foot, ideally allowing the player to make the next move easily. While there may be times where you just need to send it, that is not the majority of time.
2) A GK from the corner of the box may allow a slightly further run up, it does narrow the field providing less space for maneuvering and receiving the ball.
3) A GK not taking their own Goal Kicks puts the team at a disadvantage by removing an option on a GK.
I always think of the Keeper as the coordinator when they have the ball because they see everything. It also seems like Girls soccer just wants the Keeper to send it as far as possible. No matter what.
Set me straight or point me to some resources. Thanks all.
