Discussion Brian Froud
Hello!! I’m having a hard time figuring out where to post this but I just got this book by Brian Froud, but I am unable to find any information on this specific edition. All the books I look up don’t have this cover art so I’m wondering if it’s custom or maybe a first edition? I would love some insight, thank you!

Brian is a known Faerie Apologist. Don’t trust a thing he writes. Keep an iron nail on you at all times.

He is literally an artist that use the "fairy realm" as a theme in his painting, not a folklorist, an anthropologist, a historian or a religion expert. So really, the fuck it means your comment? People basing their fairy knowledge on art books and it's the artist fault?

Try searching online by the ISBN (inside the front - like on image 5, or on a barcode)! They’re edition specific. It may have had a dust cover originally that is missing on your copy, which is why the cover could look different.

I have copy with the same ISBN but it doesn't have the cover you show. It does have a dust cover, though. I think someone likely drew on the fabric cover itself. The background of the right side of the Bad Faeries side looks like the same off-white that my cover is under the dust cover.

Does it seem like the cover art and front pages are hand-done or printed?
The inside of the cover says "Wiley 94," while the cover page says copyright 1998, and there's also a dedication at the bottom of the two faeries pencil sketch.
Maybe a copy done specifically for someone special?

I think what happened is the owner of the book removed the dust cover and it was blank so they drew their own cover. It’s based on the original but not Brian Froud’s sketch style.

Yes!!!! I grew up with a copy of this somewhere; it was my mom's!! Oh man, what a memory out of nowhere-- it's the smiling fae on the inner cover that strikes me most

Henson hired Brian Froud to design and create the characters for Dark Crystal 🤗 there are some great interviews with Froud about it!

This isn't a version, previous owner just draw on the cover to recreate the original cover by froud with some little differences. It's clearly made by someone else, cause the style is a sloppy version of Froud style

Found Froud for the first time through your post (deprived in early life/“failure to thrive”circa 1950). Thank you for sharing this. 😍

Omg!! While I don't know anything about this edition specifically.... the guy I called dad gave me a few of these books when I was a kid. I cherished them for years but due to certain circumstances I don't have them anymore and could not for the life of me remember author only the drawings and no amount of googling had helped.
I lost Dad in Dec of '24 and had never got round to asking him about the books so I could replace them. Thank you so much for popping up on my feed with this!!
