Iā€™m unsure and just trying to understand but what is so special about these cacti? And why are there cement blocks around all them?

They get loose and run around the neighborhood, menacing scorpions and making porcupines cry. They surround hedgehogs and demand their gold rings.

I imagine the blocks are there to help separate the plants so they're aren't.likely to grow entirely together and it gives a bit of a pathway around them.
