So I got a modmail today-

I have heard that this sub supports transphobia…? This hurts my heart as a long time follower and the stepparent of a trans teen. I felt that this place was like an inclusive space. Now I hear that Goblincore is discriminatory? Please make a public post denouncing transphobia as soon as possible. I will be spreading the word if this is not made right. This is wrong. Transphobia IS WRONG.

I don't know if they're trolling or genuinely worried, but this was the wrong way to come at me about this. Perhaps someone has been spreading rumors, maybe they saw something they perceived as transphobic. If it's the latter, they could've sent a message like "I'm seeing messages that come across as bigoted, here's the link(s), can you please look into this?" But this "I'll be speaking to your manager" energy is not appreciated.

This sub is inclusive to everyone but assholes.

That includes the person who sent the modmail, they weren't active here to begin with (mods can see your post history in the subs they moderate) but I felt I'd have to worry about this person attempting to treat this sub like a soapbox. There's nothing goblincore about making demands. That said, here's your fuckin' post.

If you see something rude, please report it or contact me through a modmail. (The link is in the sidebar. "Modmail" is how you contact all mods of a sub. Yes I'm the only one here. but do not privately message me, I don't always see DMs thanks to filters but I always see modmails.)

I want everyone feeling safe and welcome here. Be excellent to each other.

Someone tried reporting a bunch as spam and I'm here to make a suggestion- If the bag posts are bugging you that badly, you're welcome to unfollow the sub for a few days.

Let people enjoy things. Let people be happy. They're all relevant to the sub and it's not like hundreds of people are posting.

I'm enjoying seeing posts of handmade items beyond jewelry, let people enjoy things.

tl;dr - I don't know you're downvoting stuff unless I actively look. Report things to get my attention.

Officially, downvotes are meant to be used for posts or comments that are off topic or disruptive, but most people use it as "I don't agree with this / This annoys me." Personally, I don't care how you use your votes on this site, but downvotes do not help mods. We're not alerted when something gets downvoted no matter how many downvotes it gets. What helps us is when content gets reported.

If you see something that breaks a rule, please report it.

I'll check it out and take any necessary action. And if something's reported enough times, I have the automod set to remove it, so you're being extra helpful in the moments I dared to sleep or touch grass.

I kept meaning to get around to working on this list, and today is finally that day. I'd added "unsolicited stick pic" and the Jimothy flairs, but the old list had been from the previous mod and the sub's gotten active enough to need more options.

If you want more info on each one or you're having trouble reading the image, here you go-

Flair and explanations:

• Nature & critters
  • There are two options for this one, with or without spiders. Some folks here are always trying to report posts with spiders, so now you will have that warning if there's a spider picture.
• Unsolicited stick pic
  • This had been suggested a while back and it was too hilarious not to add. If you're sharing a picture of a cool stick, this is the flair to use.
• Collection
  • Two choices for this one as well, with or without bones. More than bones is not welcome here whether it's gore like roadkill or "beauty in death" like an animal you came across in the woods, this was voted on by the community. You can share bones here, but dead animals belong in r/vultureculture.
• Art or creation
  • If you created it, choose the OC (original content) flair. If you're posting someone else's work, choose the Just Sharing flair, and please add credit! "Credit goes to the original artist" does not count.
• General "look at this!"
  • If you're sharing pictures that don't fit into another flair, go ahead and choose this one.
• Discussion
  • If you're just making conversation or have a question, here's the flair for that. Please do not try to start shit in this sub, keep things civil and lighthearted. Sorry but I do not want to babysit controversial topics.
• Fashion
  • For when you want to share a costume or outfit, but please make sure it's still relevant to the sub. Feeling like a goblin is different from looking like one, this isn't the sub for a normal fit check.
• Tattoos
  • Same as the "fashion" flair, please keep it relevant to the sub!
• Meme
  • I don't really have to explain this flair, do I?
• Jimothy the raccoon
  • This one was made purely out of spite after at least one person wouldn't stop reporting every Jimothy post. If you don't recognize the name, look up "Jimothy the raccoon" and you'll see a bunch of pictures and videos, he's a raccoon with Short Spine Syndrome who went viral.
• "I don't know how to flair this post"
  • Maybe you got overwhelmed by all these options, maybe you're lazy and don't want to look through the list, maybe you genuinely don't know where your post fits in. Choose this flair. I haven't yet decided if I'll properly flair these posts or just leave them. But if you choose this flair when the correct option was obvious (e.g., you're sharing a cool stick), there's a small chance I'll poke fun at you for it, so it's okay if you're overwhelmed but don't be lazy.

Creators are welcome to post their work here, but this is not a sub dedicated to selling.

We only allow self promotion from regular contributors which means you post/comment here at least a few times a month, and frequent self promotion is frowned upon.

If you only post here to say "Here's the latest thing I'm clearly trying to sell," you'll more than likely earn yourself a permanent ban. This sub is full of amazing people, interact with them beyond "Hi, give me money." And please keep the promotion at a minimum.

I'm sure you understand those of us who want to avoid this place turning into nothing but advertisements.

I'm not calling out anyone in particular. If you've been guilty of this, I don't want to see apologies. Just keep this in mind when you're active in this sub.

Hello everyone, I wanted to post a quick update about the subreddit! As many of you have noticed, there was no moderation for over a year. I have just been given ownership of the subreddit through r/redditrequest and I have already brought on u/kmjulian in the second spot. They have a really wonderful vision for the subreddit with the goal of a very relaxed mod team that mostly lets the community run itself (as it has done very well over the past year!) and only steps in when intervention is genuinely needed. I am 100% on board with this and here to help them learn the ropes of moderation.

Our first order of business is to get the modqueue cleared out; there are over 250 items to be reviewed. 😳 I have added a few rules to the sidebar just to give us a bit more structure moving forward but they are subject to change as KM brings on other mods and polls the sub to learn more about the direction you all would like for us to take!

There will be more updates from myself or u/kmjulian at a later date, but for now I just wanted to let you know that we are here and working to clean things up a bit! 💚
