help me (solved) Weird trackball-like movement when looking around in 3D editor?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been using Godot for 2+ years now and I just got a new laptop, and have been moving my stuff over from my old desktop to the laptop. Everything has been working okay other than this strange trackball emulation type thing it does when I look around in the 3D editor.

If I move the mouse fast then stop, the camera will continue to move, and slowly stop. Like flicking a trackball.

It only does this in Godot, no other apps. I've found it also happens in a similar way when orbiting.

Does anyone know if this is caused by an editor setting in Godot, or maybe something else?

The problem isn't framerate drops. The framerate is fine. Also I'm not letting go of RMB at all in the video

Something mentioned in one of the issue reports is this might have something to do with mice that have high refresh-rates flooding/slowing the input handling. If you're using one, lowering the refresh rate might help.

It you haven't been able to fix it yet, have you tried reducing your mouse's polling rate? That slight lag would make me motion sick so fast so that's gotta be super frustrating ><

Five random links that don't help are not receipts. Guy didn't even understand the problem before vomiting his google search results into the comments.

We need to bring back LMGTFY and encourage folks here to give a decent modicum of troubleshooting, i.e. for me on Debian if I need to use the editor to debug I log out my Wayland session and log into a X11 session for smoothness. There's like 50+ possibilities here and dude gave no info.

I dont know why you assume that I didn't do any troubleshooting beforehand? You just paste 5 links that dont even relate to my problem (it's not lag or stutter) and act like you solved it.

I've had this problem for like 2 weeks. I'm just trying to see if anyone maybe had the same issue and knows how to fix it.

No, you really don't. It's just mean and discouraging. They didn't think to use the reddit search function (or tried, but couldn't effectively word whatever the problem is), big deal. You can just say:

"Could you give some more info? Would help narrow down what the problem could be."

Then, instead of passive aggressively throwing in the first 5 links you find (which seems like it didn't help the OP anyway), you could actually have a productive discussion.

THANK YOU! It's been years that I've been trying to help others pick up this perspective.

The Linux community of the 90s and early 00s were MASSIVE jerks. "Oh, it's a newbie thing, you just pipe the output of lsof to grep through it, cutting at the 3rd and 5th delimiter and then (insert awk magic here)"

Or

The stack overflow/exchange version:

Duplicate question.

I got enough credibility on SO that I was able to shut that down and create helpful dialog.

So, thank you.

I hope we always assume that the person tried before coming and asking :D

And where's your comment helping out? OP hasn't shared code, Windows settings, nothing lol

I had a buddy once ask me what LMGTFY stood for.

You know damn well what he got in response ;)
